Overdrive failing to disengage today on the M40 to Gaydon, then coming in and out on its own.
Suspect electrical fault i hope.I have found the inhibitor switch makes whilst still in neutral to the right of the gate.

Been investigating the really annoying rotational knocking on the back of my herald today,i cant for the life of me see anything wrong. Its had a brand new 3:63 from Mike papworth, new flanges and u/j`s to match the diff flanges.
I replaced the shaft complete on the nearside with one that came off my Vitesse after the CV conversion, now the noise seems to be offside, its a pita i dont need,i might just buy a recon shaft tomorrow.

Have to say, really struggling with illness at the moment, cant get excited for anything at the moment.

I have a 3:63 in my Herald,albeit with a single rail o/d box.Standard large crank 1300(dont ask).
It pulls fine and drives lovely.

Changed the engine and gearbox oil today on the Herald, have to say the magnetic plugs on both were looking a bit furry with filings.Dont know if i should be worried as the engine and box have an unknown history.
Replaced the broken speedo angle drive as well.
Done a few thousand miles since its been back on the road last year,it runs and drives great.

Ditto what Nick said,
On my Vitesse,(2.5 engine and saloon box with j type o/d)the clutch was very notchy with the steel bearing carrier.Sort of on or off with nothing in between.
I found a spare brass one in my garage and its been as smooth as it should be ever since.

I wish someone would make a lower/decambered version like the old TT/SAH ones,i tried three or four new springs including the Courier versions, all were far too high with horrendous positive camber and handling.

All is good, unless the bulb blows, then the alternator does not know what voltage to supply.
Battery sensed has a separate feed to the regulator that is not dependant on the bulb.
Willing to be shotdown if I have this wrong.... :B
Thats interesting as i have an alternator and a 10mm red LED for the ignition light.Only difference i notice is that it takes about 3k revs to make it go out on startup.
I will measure the charging voltage.

In my Vitesse(2.5 and Saloon box)the clutch was notchy with no feel,it has an Ap clutch.
The biggest improvement i found was fitting the old brass bearing carrier back in,now its smooth and light.

I`m using the 129 mm one on my Spit engined Herald which lives outside.Even after two weeks standing the oil light goes out before the fuel has time to reach the carbs,i get instant pressure on the guage and the bottom end rattle on startup has completely gone.
Steve -
I`m using the 123mm high one on my Herald, just ordered another two from Mr Auto, including the 10% discount, about 11 quid with free delivery

Started my Herald after one week today with the new filter and the oil light went out instantly and no knocks, they do appear to be the Korean meatballs.

I should have a filter waiting for me for the Herald at home today, will report back if it stops the start up rattle.

Look at the spark plugs to see how its running, white and glazed electrode=lean, black and sooty=rich, should be greyish brown for normal running.
Adjustment is by lowering the jet with the nut underneath, downwards for richening.

Well it arrived this morning and it is a proper hand made sand bent manifold with good primaries etc.
Well worth the cost and its goodbye Phoenix.

Can`t disagree with Nicks point about the current offering being not fit for purpose sometimes.
The rear collector pipe on my one pointed to the ground when fitted for the first time, when i contacted the well known supplier they asked me to get the car there and they would cut and weld it,as they were 100 miles away this wasn`t really feasible so i did it myself.I suppose i should have rejected it as NFFP.
The one on e bay may or may not be Mike Randalls work,it is definitely of his type though with decent sand bends and proper joints,i have a Saloon version of his which i am selling soon, its a quality piece of work.
I cant wait to get rid of my Phoenix 6-3-1.

I run the single rail with j type od in my Herald 1360 with a 3.63 diff and it pulls fine and will cruise at 80 easily.
Twin carbs and a 4-1 manifold and Vitesse system though.

Thats why there aren`t any decent ones being made in any numbers, because people think a well made peice of kit that actually works should cost pennies.

I have a Pheonix 6-3-1 and its a terrible fit,it sits too low below the chassis where the collector is,no experience of the 6-2-1

Team 9,loads to do yet.

If its just for the winter then second hand ones come up on e-bay,i got one for £90,i only fitted it as my Herald has no hood yet, when its painted its coming off.

First check its a non ballasted coil,3 ohm-non ballasted ignition.1.5 ohms ballasted.
1.5 ohm coil on a non ballasted ignition will cook it.
General heat from the block issue..i mounted mine on the bulkhaed next to the battery.
