  1. You can have a plan to all drive different stints, but it all goes out of the window as you will all feel tired/refreshed at different times

Regarding the satnav, we have one on at night, but we never set it to any check points. We use it more as as a safety feature. With a satnav you see the road layout ahead and watch out for any sharp bends that might catch you out. 🙂

After reading about Steve Radley's clutch exploits and having exactly the same problem, my Saloon is now up in the air and I will have the gearbox out of her later tonight.

The 'tinkling' noise (sames as Steve's)I have been hearing from my car sounds like something is rattling, but I have been underneath with the engine running and cannot find anything. So yesterday, bearing in mind my 2014 RBRR retirement, I have decided to pull the gearbox out and investigate the clutch. I have this awful fear of the car letting me down somewhere near JOG and having to endure a 30 hour AA relay ride home-not good (As well as some serious mickey taking from CT friends). So for the sake of some spannering, I have decided to take this drastic action.

    Bloody old cars!

    Hi Tim,

Let me know the result of your findings 🙂 S.

  3. Funny you say that Nick because this has 'domed' pistons and after measuring the stroke, this is now a 2.0 as well!

it's no good to me, so it will be going to the tip unless anyone wants it? I know it was a good engine as it came out of Iggy's Green Mk2 when he fitted a 2.5.

  4. it's the wire that light that lights up the choke light on the cluster of four lights that stares at you from the dash board.

    Low fuel
    oil light
    ignition light
    Choke.

Although not necessarily in that order

  5. I'm looking to fit an electric fan on my Mk1 Pi. It needs to go nose cone side rather than crank pulley side.

I will also be looking to remove the manual fan altogether, so the electric fan will be a replacement rather than an additional one.

Has anybody done this? Any recommendations of particular makes?

  6. Gertie the Mk1 saloon has had a replacement diff, new rear gas shocks, new front wheel bearings, new front brake pads, with new rear shoes following soon.

I've also finally got round to moving the electric fuel pump to a more favourable position in case it gives in. (we would have had to remove the front wheel to get at the bolts in it's original position)

A recent 1600 mile trip to (Very Northern) Scotland revealed nothing to worry about, so we're looking good to go. 🙂

    .

Best thing was having the louvered bonnet, this took 5 degrees C off running temp.

I can agree with that. I have a louvred bonnet on Gertie and when sitting in the traffic in the summer, you can see the heat haze pouring out of the louvres.

  8. Thanks Jon & helpers for an enjoyable and very hospitable day out

Enjoyed the rally, but one of the hardest bits for me was the lack of locations for the passage controls at the end of each section. When you are struggling to plot the route (As we were) at least knowing where the passage control is gives you an idea of where you need to be heading for. You could then also have the opportunity to work the route out backwards from there are well if you cant plot it forwards.

Maybe also try the clues out beforehand on a novice next time rather than an expert. An expert will always find the novice clues easy!

A great day none the less and we were well surprised with our result considering we didn't cover section 4 at all due to already being late for the last control.

    Thanks again

I said this last year, but maybe too late then,
but coming back doon frae Scotchlandshire, it would be  a good move to
follow the olde road   B 7076, that runs next to the M Way
can join it at Abington, and go all the way to Carlisle.

And there will be little if any cars on it, and its a v v good wide road in parts, A road to your selves,!!!

worth a think, zoom in, or go street velw, see what im onaboot

Drove that road on one of the Ecosse's. (2011 I think)  Lovely drive 🙂

Ask me early Sun morning at some motorway service station if it was a good idea...

When we got home after after the last RBRR, Davemate and I had found that our 'first time RBRR' third man co-driver had put on facebook 'WTF AM I DOING???'  Round about the time we were at Gordano Services early hours Sunday morning! 😀

On another note and a bit of thread drift (sorry!) any ideas what could cause a rhythmic "thrumming" noise. It started each time we got over 60 mph and sounded as if it might be coming from the propshaft........

Sounds more like a rear wheel bearing to me. Have you got a spare hub and drive shaft you can try before you start crawling underneath?

Looks like no entries from the UK again this year

I had this in my diary for this year, but a serious pelvis and disc injury are keeping me out of all events at present. That's also why I withdrew from the CT Essex rally. 🙁

    Maybe next year?
