“
@65redspit are you tempted to try skinnier tyres that fit in the arches next time?!”
Yes but it happens with the road tyres occasionally too … I was trying to be too clever, the ones I was using I had bought for my Dolomite Sprint thinking I could potentially use them for both cars… if I get my arches sorted I potentially can - didn’t help on the day limiting my suspension travel and the concern the issue might shred a tyre mid-session !!

That is an understatement! It flies, I think the driver has a fair bit to do with that.
He is an excellent driver, for sure, follow his lines they are spot on 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Here's my highlights reel from Thursday. Should have taken more still photos, and also should have had video recording for 2nd session when I had front row seats for a spinning Spitfire.
Pete, great video, thank you so much for sharing 👍🏻🏁🏁

Deep thanks to Kevin for arranging this track day. Despite sprints and hill climbs, Triumph is no longer represented in circuit racing. His efforts are the next best thing !
I learnt at lot about the new SofS, which went well, despite some probs with the new gearbox, but most of all, good to see again old friends like Nick and Pete, and see faces I only knew as names on message boards.
On to Thruxton for Sunday. Meanwhile I'm touring some West country beauty spots!
John
Good to meet you too - good luck at Thruxton !!

Another cracking track day, blimey I'm tired now! Had to have a sleep on way home. I took some videos but hardly any photos. Will get vids edited ASAP and post up here.
Great to see everyone. @Colin Treby hope your engine damage is fixable quickly... although it sounded ominous.
It was excellent - great to meet you all, hopefully next time my tyres will fit in the arches 😂

The trouble is knowing what you want. As the used or new springs seem to all be different. And how do you measure the rate of a leaf spring? (I can do coils, though have nearly broken my neck more than once by falling off!)
I don't know but I took mine in and said "I would like this 10% softer and 14mm shorter between the center of the vertical link eyes" ... so maybe if you simply took you old spring in and tell them what it's doing now and what you want it to do in the future?? I've no idea whether they can work with that but they showed huge knowledge and expertise when I went there ...

Spent more than 1/2 the day pressing out & trying to fit new bushings into the diff 🙈🙈 finally got the diff in, prop & driveshafts bolted up, rear hubs in & brake reconnected … think I’m getting too old for this mullarkey - I’m cream crackered !!!!

That was true until recently, but is no longer. Bizarrely the Spit swing spring was making it sit too high and it was swapped for a GT6 roto spring, which was making a mates GT6 sit too low but works perfectly on the Spit. Handling wise it doesn’t seem to make very much difference.
Jones’s Springs will make you a custom spec one for the price of a standard one from most of the main suppliers…

I currently have the rear spring and radius arms off my car. I had new bushes in a cupboard. However, it turns out they are for non-roto arms, so too small. I popped to Wins and picked up 4 superflex bushes yesterday, and today to Namricks to buy some hefty wahers and bolts that have a shank long enough that the threads won't wear the brackets again. Ho hum. Changing the rear spring to the one liberated from the MK3 spit, it is barely used. Hoping that lot will cure my clonk.
Lol we make a pair - good luck with it, see you at the track !!

Looks like I’m in with the other spitfires too 👍🏻
have had hellish time fitting LSD … had to buy a later diff, new crown wheel & pinion set, change the flanges on both driveshafts and the propshaft (kinda frustrating as they were all reconditioned and balanced over the winter) even then, today, I had to drive the lsd to Coventry for additional machining as it touched inside the casing 🙈🙈🙈
so currently I have absolutely no mechanicals fitted in the car behind the gearbox…

If the sills are bad, they may not be holding the body straight, so get the door gaps right before you start. If you have a hard top, fit it - that will ensure the rear deck to windscreen dimension is right while you brace everything up.
This is a very important point! The ONLY way to know whether you've got the sills positioned right (and, in most cases, modified correctly from the not-quite-right pressing) is to fit the doors and see how the shut lines look.
And the bonnet !!

I run a bespoke woodworking business and have to say that veneering is VERY nice 👍🏻

I have ditched my hard top, helmet rubbed on the thing. Does on the soft top too. Much better roof down.
We appear to have the "the Flying Farmer" in our group with his stag powered TR250. I Know he has been up to stuff with those engines. And getting some good results. He could be very quick.
Those stag v8's are light and make serious horses when built properly ....

@65redspit Paul is that you listed in group 2? Maybe email Kevin and ask to join the other Spitfires in group 3? Only so we can compare ??!
Yeah hopefully we're as lucky again. I can't fit my helmet in with the roof up!
Yup that’s me 😂 I have emailed him - maybe he thinks I have a Gitfire lol …

I’ve had to pull the propshaft out again too as the balancing weights came off on the trip down and she was vibrating quite badly past 55… it’s never straightforward 🙈🙈
