  1. Interesting thread. My £0.02, you can save the weight of the expansion bottle, bracket, pipe and contained water by using non aqueous coolant.  It doesn't expand with heat.  Bonus 1: your system runs with little pressure and requires no additional corrosion inhibitor.  Bonus 2: your wallet will be ligher too.
  2. If memory serves the retaining nut is a nylock which can when new grip tight enough to turn the stub.  Fit a plain nut instead and torque to the correct setting then change to a nylock and torque again.  Same trick can be of use on track rod ends and the like.
  3. Thanks.  That confirms three fixings not four even if mine does differ on which 3 corners are used.  The broken bolt has been extracted successfully so the new tank will go in with 200% improvement in fixings next weekend.
  4. Fundamentally running on is caused by your engine running like a diesel, i.e. ignition is a spontanious reaction to compression and heat.  In your engine the it is likely that there is a build up of carbon in the chamber, a spot on that is getting hot enough to be your ignition source.  Usually it's a sharp edge of carbon and the good news is that often it's on the plugs. First thing to do is look at your spark plugs and replace them if thay have significant carbon build up.  Tune the engine (ignition and carbs) based on the colour of your existing or new plugs.  If all that fails then a de-coke of the head will be needed.
  5. Good point, I'll get the chamber too if I have any luck but I think you can mix & match so long as they drop test correctly. www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfU47Oqq9wA
  6. Hi Howard, According to Burlen there is only one option for a '70 IV which makes things easy. The springs should be AUC4387 (Red), 4.5oz at 2.635" if you've an accurate balance to test the ones you've been given. AUC 8114 damper is correct. AAN needle is also correct. I don't think I've any HS2 pistons but will check the lockup tonight & sheds at home on Friday.  I'll also be seeing Mr Bond @ pub tonight, reasonable chance he has one. Julian
  7. Folks, Should there be a mounting for the fuel tank in the corner nearest the tail lights?  There is no sign of one ever being there in my car.   Curiosity only, I'll not be reinstating it if it should be there as my car is nowhere near a standard to warrant that level of detail.  It is however at a standard to warrant replacing the 50mm M4 bolt simply dropped through the outer forward mounting and to extract & replace the sheared bolt in the inboard forward mount.  POs, don't ya just love 'em. Cheers
  8. 1 & 7/8" and no not a hope.  The tightening torque is 150 ft/lb so you'll need more than this to undo it, that is far more than the fittest of engines can deliver so drivetrain damage is likely.   Starter off and screwdriver in the ring gear.  I used to use a 3/4" knuckle bar 2' long but a particularly stubborn example recently required an upgrade to 1" drive a full meter long.  You're welcome to borrow it if you're local to me. 9. There's both an Asda (CA3 0JQ) and a Morrisons (CA3 0QZ) near the Carlisle North A7 junction currently showing 129.7 & 129.9 respectively on PP.  However, on your way up Todhills on the M74 just a couple of miles further North is at 131.9 so not worth the diversion to save a pound if time is at all tight.  On your way back south go straight past the Todhills services, it'll be £kerching (different company) and come off at Carlisle North if your time of day permits.
