  1. Thank you I understand that it wouldn't be a direct bolt on and would require modifiation but it is possible then?
  2. Hey folks, My bonnet is buggered after a run in with a post many years ago and i'm in the process of finally rebuilding her. I realise their maybe modification required but can a MKII GT6 front end (bonnet and valances) be made to fit on a late Spitfire? Thanks Tom P.s this new forum late out isn't the best.
  3. Hi all, Car is out of the garage and has had all the ignition reset for emissions unfortunately the is pinking when hot and at high revs/speeds. Am I right in thinking its just a case of taking her for a drive and regarding he ignition to remove pinking by turning the dizzy to the left a tad? It's ridiculous quite how easily I forget this stuff now a days! Thanks

It couldn't have been that simple? The high torque motor I have is designed to be a direct replacement, same cables same fitment. It was setup correctly but doesn't work, I've also had the company confirm after sending it back that it was faulty after they tested it. I have a replacement in the post that does work.

  6. Thanks for the replies folks, got her started and running. Tested the new high torque starter out of the car and it was engaging but failing to spin. Shortly after I put the old Lucas in and after a huge amount of starter spin managed to get her running well. The new powerlite motor has been repackaged and is going to be returned tomorrow. Definately could benefit from a higher torque motor as the current is having issues with the compression. In reply to your thoughts on the battery I replaced it with a new one so know that wasn't the issue.
  7. Hi folks, I've fitted the high torque starter and a new battery but when I turn the ignition over I just get a loud click from the solenoid. The solenoid is only 18 months old so it seems odd that it maybe at fault. I did however leave my battery connected whilst dry stored which was silly. Can anyone shed any advice in diagnosing this?
  8. Nice to see old girl again.. Note to self don't leave handbrake on.
  9. Hi all, so my high torque starter arrived today. It's a power lite rac414 which is supposed to be a direct fit without modification.. However upon fitting a part of the body of the motor is catching on the outter lip of a metal mounting hole in the corner of block. Picture: Has anyone else experienced this issue? I'm only a few mm away from having the clearance I need, would it be safe to round the edge of the metal lip on the mounting block to give me the clearance I need?

You should be ashamed of yourself. JOhn John, I literally had to chisel about 2mm off the metal lip that curves round the very ends. This was also approved by a recommended classic specialist who MOTed the car, granted my post may well have sounded like I was taking tonnes off but it was miniscule.
  11. Sorry folks, it's all about the D1's.. :-P

Now i can't turn the steering wheel !  :-/ :-/ The top suspension arm is hitting it :/ It's also lowered a bit because of the new springs and spax shocks .. What to do now ?!?  :B :B Apologies not been active recently. I have a set of D1 alloys that are the same (my spit is lowered as well) I simply took a chisel to the wishbones as it's only the lip and is a safer option in my opinion that running spacers. You may need to adjust the ball joints.
  13. I have dolly sprint alloys on my 1500, 5.5J and have no issues. had to file down the edges of some of the wishbones but other than that its fine. I'll see if I can find more details on how I did it.
