  1. Hi.  I have front drums on a 1969 1200.  The spindles for the brake adjusters are completely shot.  The parts are not available anymore as far as I can see.  Is there a work around? Also, as the front shoes are not available should I be looking at stocking up on the ones I have seen on Ebay recently?  Mine still have a little life in them but won't last forever. Thanks Matt
  2. Cheers.  I couldn't see an obvious difference but the Haynes and the workshop manual both say to make sure you put in on the right way round.
  3. Is there an easy way to know which way around the rear spring should be placed.  The Haynes says that it should be marked FRONT.  My 'new' spring has been spayed at some point and has no markings. I hope this isn't another stupid question.
  4. Now I feel stupid! I photographed everything as I took it apart and I am just reversing the whole process.  The three that were still in place when I took it apart are this way around but admitedly all different sizes (and not nyloc) .  I can't believe I actually drove this thing.  I'll try to think next time and not be so robotic! How about the rear spring.  Will I need a lever?
  5. I'm trying to bolt on the half shaft to the diff.  I have ordered the correct bolts (129361) from Canleys and again from Paddocks in case they differ slightly but when I tighten them up they catch on the cap head screws on the diff stopping the halfshaft rotating. I have attached a pic. Am I missing something obvious or are the bolts just too long? Also, is is possible to put the rear suspension back together without a lever arm to raise the spring?  I have read somewhere that it is possible to attache the various components then gradually tighten up the nuts on the diff studs to get the spring fixed in place.
  6. John Great design.  Thanks.  I knew all those Currier Magazines I bought off EBay would come in handy one day. I used small but tough hammer-in castors and they work really well. I think I might modify the design a bit by chocking the uprights as they tend to move a bit when the mount is moved.  I think you also mentioned doing something like this in the original article. Cheers Matt

    Engine Mount

Just wanted to share this.  I found an article in an old issue of The Courier about making your own engine mount.  With the help of my father in-law, I gave it a go.  Works really well. Just bits of wood lying around. Total cost £2 for the castors.
  8. In taking the exhaust off ready to get the engine out there were only 2 stud/bolts in place.  One came off fine but the other broke off.  I now have two studs snapped off in the manifold.  Can these be taken out easily enough?

    Powder coating

The chassis outriggers are progressing well.  Front and middle are sorted.  I was hoping to get away without changing the rear but one side was almost a half inch out so I decided not to be lazy and regret it later. The new outriggers and side rails arrive in a few days so I should be finished pretty soon. I have been advised to get the chassis blasted and powder coated.  What do people think?  I have been using Epoxy Mastic for the underside of the car, should I have it blasted then continue with this?  Is blasting a good idea or is it better to clean it myself and treat with rust eater? I want to get it right after the years spent on this project. Thanks Matt
  10. I just stuck to the pictures after page 3!  He's got some skill though hasn't he.
  11. I don't know if this has been posted before.  I came across this thread from a post on pakwheels.com.  This guy can really use a hammer.  It's worth persevering with the thread.  As you see the panels start to take shape it's amazing. Just keep going from page to page. http://www.pakwheels.com/forums/d-i-y-projects/199291-rebuilding-triumph-herald-63-original-convertible-my-son-spitfire
  12. I've just ordered the bottom of the A post from Chic Doig.  I'll let you know how I get on welding it in.  It's the passenger side but a similar problem. I started out with no experience at all. I'm still very green but it is possible.
