  1. Any ideas? It is stuck and I keep rounding it trying to get it off. I even drilled a hole through it and tried to level it with a screwdriver but just bent the screwdrive. Any ideas?

  3. Further investigation reveals no choke at all! Man she is thirsty... I will have another look at the plugs.
  4. I already have a white tipex line marked as per the picture. I hadn't disconnected the vacuum but I don't think it works. Can't suck/blow it and get the plate to move. Nor does accelerating change the timing angle. My next step is vacuum. I get that it would cause power loss but backfiring?
  5. Just to be clear, I'm setting the timing correctly aren't I? The below picture is how I am setting it, as you stand in front of the car looking towards the windscreen.
  6. So.... I've been ripping my saloon to pieces to get her back up and running. Carbs - rebuilt and incorrect bearing replaced. Carbs tuned - now sweet az :) Ignition New dizzy cap, plugs, points, condenser. Timing set. Gap set (29 degrees dweel but I can't be bothered fiddling any more). Ballast resistor bypassed (it was fuck*d). Rev counter disconnected then reconnected to rule that out. What is left? Well, I think the vacuum isn't working correctly. The pipe is clear. I can't work out if there is vac from the manifold but blowing/sucking directly into the dizzy vac connecting did nothing. When I drive the car uphill, she backfires out of the carbs and is down on power. Any ideas? This motor has come a long way but still not sweet yet!
  7. Sorry, forgot to mention. Holley 4 barrel carb with one of those damn automatic chokes!
  8. So my Stag uses a ton of petrol when she is cold and I'm thinking it might be worth fitting something like this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NEW-Engine-Pre-Heater-240v-/190803451934?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c6cc5a01e Anyone every tried one?
  9. So prognosis? Also, one side had a different jet seat size to the other. To clarify, I am referring to the right hand part here: http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-WZX1442. Prior to the engine completely going fucked, one carb was running rich as fuck and t'other perfect. The needle was also a different size Clearly, I'd say, the jet needs changing to match the front one. Which parts do I need to be changing? Cheers
  10. Would have thought the red bit should be central. Both sides the same, although the other is black? Cheers
  11. By clean, are we talking remove, spray carb cleaner and put back on or are we talking remove, strip down, rebuild?
  12. It is weird that it is only an issue when I have been in queueing traffic. If I get a clear run, she is all goods.
  13. Yeah, was next on my list. Have been rather focussing on filling the occasional hole!
