I dont need a primmer just an over spray, what grit san paper, scotch cloths etc. There are loads of places were I need to use filler so there is plenty of prep work. Any tips would be great. Thanks PS current colour carmen red going to signal red. PhilÂ
  6. Thanks all, Great posts, it seems that the grose jets where at fault have changed back to needles. Thanks
  7. Thanks all, The grose jets are the ball type, far superior than normal jets I was told. Anyway I put the old ones back with the needle type and guess what - no leak! I have only changed the front one due to the rear one not leaking, is this wise or should I change back to the needle type. After reading many posts on this subject I have learnt this still might happen again, I have already purchase a fuel pressure regulator should I install it? Thanks again. Phil
  8. Hi, Its a restoration project,  engine rebuilt, its only started doing this and yes it is a new fuel pump. Its difficult to say where it is leaking from round the lid area, maybe the pipe?? Yo mentioned the overflow, I didn't know I had a overflow? Thanks for your reply. Phil :)
  9. Hi, One of the carbs is leaking at the top, the gasket is good and the screws are tight, I have new grose needles fitted so I don't think they are sticking. Could it be when the float is full petrol is still being pumped up and it spills out of the pipe? What are the causes of this kind of leak? The float chamber is about 15mm from the top is this correct or is this to high? Thanks Phil PS They are HS2 carbs, triumph spitfire 1973
  10. Thanks Guys, I have not yet run the vehicle, I have the engine running but not drove it yet, when turning the diff by hand I get no grinding noise or anything, I am not sure of the state of oil inside but I will be changing it, is your advice to leave well alone if no severe leaks or should I change the seals while I am restoring? The bearing puller - what puller should I be looking for and would it be good to use on the hb bearings? Thanks Phil

    diff

Hi guys, I am doing the rear suspension on my 73 spitfire restoration, I have the hubs off and drive shafts which I am replacing brake cylinders, brakes etc, not sure if it is worth dropping the diff while I am down there? Looking at the diff from below I think there is a possiblity of an oil leak and I think I should replace all oil seals. With the shafts removed I turn the ends that connect to the diff and there is a bit of play but no grinding. I need advice please. Thanks PhilÂ
  12. Thanks I am thinking it is faulty then, I have tried pushing with all my might but it does not go in enough to clear the boss. Thanks
  13. Hi Ron, I have tried pushing it in, it moves a litlle and a bit side to side but not enough to fit in the boss, does it need forcing in? Thanks
  14. Hi Guys, As anyone fitted this type of horn push before? I have circled the clip that I thought compreses and then you push in the horn push, I am worried that if I did try and force it I would do some damage, hence the reason why I am posting this. The boss does not have a hole where that clip sits into either. Is it a case where I have to use some brute force? Thanks PhilÂ
  15. Hi Guys, I have finally got my engine running however I have a few problems, can anyone give me guidance for setting the carbs and setting idle. Also I have a small drip of fuel, it appear that fuel goes into the venturi and then seems to run back down the jet, I have the sealing washer in place, is this fairly common? or have I got something set wrong, the jet is not blocked. Thanks Phil
  16. Hi Guys, Can anyone tell me in step by step easy understood english how to correctly install my distributor. I am having trouble starting after a engine rebuild and I suspect incorrect installation of my dizzy. Its more about the drive gear fitted correctly but complete installation info will be great. Thanks
  17. Hi Guys, Having trouble with starting my MK4 spitfire, I have restoring her, sfter further inspection of my carbs I have noticed that the carb piston needle is bent. Is it possible just to bend back carefully or do I have to buy new? Thanks
  18. Hi Guys, I have a problem getting no spark at the plugs, I have a new coil, salonoid, distributer points, condensor, leads and the spark plugs are good. What wires should I have connected to the coil I think the problem is there not sure if I am wired up correctly? Thanks
  19. Thanks Guys, I think the dash switch is the better option there not much room in these cars as it is so trying to locate a key under the steering column just puts me off! Any tricks to fitting the switch, I am thinking of a locking nut behind the switch on the dash. Thanks Phil

    Seat Covers

Hi Guys, As anyone purchased these covers before and whats the quality like? It seems a bit on the cheap side. Thanks http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/310691095316?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2648 Phil
  21. mdvehicle - thanks for your post, would you recomend a the dash type then? Where would you fit the switch on the dash? Thanks Phil
  22. Guys, Is this the correct switch for a 73 mk4 Spitfire? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-Ignition-Switch-for-Triumph-Spitfire-IV-15-and-Triumph-TR6-late-cars-/261257924039?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item3cd42f8dc7 Thanks
