  1. I had a problem on one of my motorcycles [suzuki ] The main multi connector to the headlamps was a known weak point for overheating. Recommended cure was to remove the factory connector and replace with one with larger teminals. 1.8mm would be a bit too small in my experience.
  2. And another................possibly for MOT tester types or Police traffic Trying not to add loads of extra switches to the dashboard, the existing light master switch on the dash has two positions,1- lights, 2-lights and dash illumination. Thought of using this switch to provide 1-rear fog light, 2- rear and front fog lights. Then using an ignition controlled relay to send power to the column light switch. Is it a legal requirement to have sidelights useable with ignition off? Front fogs are not a necessity, so if this is not doable, I will forget them. I am aware that on roads over 30MPH, you are required to park at night with side lights on, so to meet that requirement [ like never !] I could just leave the ignition on.
  3. Thanks for the replies, so..................... 1 relay for HRW 1 relay for electric radiator fan 1 relay for dip beam headlight circuit 1 relay for main beam headlamp circuit 1 electronic indicator relay [ to go with tow bar wiring] I cannot think of any other extras I will be adding.
  4. When my estate came off the road, I toyed around with a wiring diagram to update the circuits to add fuses and additional items like heated rear window, rear fog light etc. I have just been looking again and thought about the need for relays. I have added one for a heated rear window, but just wondered if any relays were needed on existing circuits, although I have no plans to add high power headlight or similar, so guess existing cable sizes/runs will be OK.

    Engine fans

If the Kenlowe is coming on excessively, it may be set at to too low a temperature, providing your cooling system is working OK. Probably a good opportunity to check the system is working OK e.g. No cold spots on the radiator indicating a partial blockage. Thermostat opening and closing correctly. Possibly even water pump not very efficient at engine idle speeds, maybe damaged impellor.

    1300 engine

Nick that is the answer I was kind of expecting. I do not intend any engine mods, just the O/D or 5 speed alteration with 3.89 diff if needed.

    1300 engine

Hi, without wishing to double post, I have started a thread about my 1200 Herald [Sorry, link no longer available] At the moment it has a late 1300 Dolomite engine and single rail gearbox fitted. An O/D or 5 speed conversion is planned, but is the conversion from the single 1 1/2" SU carburettor to twin 1 1/4" [as in 1300 spitfire ] worthwhile. I am guessing twin 1 1/2" would be overkill for a 1300 engine
