  1. You will also have to pay to use the motorway over the Brenner if you do not follow the suggested route. Every team should be aware that there could be tolls which the organised do not know about and should have some cash on them at all times.

  2. sorry, another update.

A fifth team has had to drop out and one of the reserve list has now taken their place. However, we now have only 2 teams waiting in the reserve list so there is still a chance that you could take part this year if you enter now.

Please send me an entry form and if you get in I will contact you for the entry fee.

    Thanks
    AndyF

  3. A new update has been sent to all main entrants. "Main entrant" = first name on the entry form i.e not co-drivers. If you are a co-driver and would like to see these updates please contact your team mate.

There is an attachment to the email therefore please ensure you can accept attachments and your internet provider does not refuse them or put them in the spam folder.

If you are the main entrant (driver) and have not received an email from me please contact me with the correct email address. If I do not hear from you I will presume I have the correct email address.

    Thanks

  4. It will be possible to drive the Slovenian part of the route without using motorways as will the section in the Czech republic. However using motorways in the Czech Republic will be quicker

You will require an Austrian motorway vignette as we will be using the Austrian motorways quite extensively during the night.

Swiss vignette will only be required by those doing the more challenging route after the Saturday restart and following the suggested route. Other routes are possible where no motorways are used.

Each entrant is responsible for ensuring they have the appropriate vignette and any suggestions from the organisers are just that - suggestions .

  5. sorry I am not clear what we are discussing here, are we discussing the unknown route or are we discussing that we want to travel the 2000 miles in convoy?

The route will be published before the start and a convoy is simply not going to happen.

In previous 10CRs we have seen different cars team up with other cars for different sections. Very rarely did a group of cars stay together for the whole trip. If they did it was because the teams spoke with each other and agreed a route, in other words they made the 10CR their own!

As anyone who has designed a new, 2000 mile route every 2 years will know it is not something that is done in a few hours. I have spend many evenings designing the route and making sure it is possible to achieve in the time given. I spend many hours searching for good interesting roads and speak to people who have driven them and can give me tips. I try to bring the 10CR into different areas of Europe and accommodate all the wishes of the past events e.g. less motorway, more passes, different countries more time to socialise, an extra overnight stop, more challenging route.

If you look on the internet you can buy holiday routes which in my opinion are not as good as the 10CR routes, they are not cheap and you will pay anything from £250 upwards. Taking this into account you may start to understand why the route is not published early. Think of a worst case scenario; 4 other clubs taking 20 to 30 cars on the route at the same time as we are on it or even worse before we drive it?

And last but not least why would I want Club Triumph to make my IP public before it is required?

  6. What I was trying to point out is that the route you will get is only a recommend route and every team can change it or make their own up beforehand or on the go. This was always the philosophy of the 10CR from 2003 onwards.

There are 4 points that each team should try to reach Aachen, Corrina, Ulm and The Rolduc however it would be in the spirit of the event if the teams did not go the most direct route but tried to visit 10 countries on the way. Yes there are thousands of routes and each team should create one that works best for them. From experience or talking to others who have done this before you will know the route from Calais to Calais is usually about 2000 miles give or take 200 miles. Perhaps some had not picked up the rumours about visiting Poland. Slovenia has also had a mention as well as Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary.

I know of one team who already have their root planned and it is quite different to the recommended route because they want to reach parts the 10CR does not reach.

Please do not panic the recommended route will be published sooner than in previous events but please remember changes are being made up to it being published.

    Regards

  7. There is no secret about the route.

The main stopping points have been published and it is now up to each team to decide how they are going to get there and drive through 10 countries doing it.

For those who do not manage to find a route before the event a recommend route will be offered nearer the start of the event.

    Cheers

God how the devil did you manage to do it by the side of the road in france?!

yes it would have been easier in Italy  :)

It was either wait 7 hours for recovery or spend 4 hours changing the clutch.

With help from the usual suspects in CT it was easy.

  9. I sent out another update today (Update 7) if you have not received it then either I do not have your correct email address or your spam filter is blocking it. Please check and let me know if I need to change anything.

If I do not hear anything I will presume your are getting the updates.

    Thanks

  10. Around the steering wheel are 3 grub screws, if you slacken these off or better still take them out you should be able to pull the horn boss out of the steering wheel. Make sure the cable that enters the column at the other end of the steering box is pushed up as you do it. You might also pull out the stator tube. This is a tube that runs the length of the steering column and is fixed by an olive and nut at the bottom of the steering box. It is through this nut that the cables go through.

You should be able to separate the stator tube and the horn boss but if not it might be best to take off the nut at the bottom take off the olive and pull the horn boss, stator tube and wiring through the steering column. You will need about 1.8 meters space above the steering wheel to do this.

Once the horn boss is out far enough you should be able to disconnect the cables and then take the boss to the bench to repair.

    Hope this helps

  11. Mike,
we hope it will be in striking distance of Aachen  :) :)  The original start was 20km or 30minutes from Aachen centre.

Perhaps a short explanation why we do not have an exact starting point.

The place we were going to use as the start is no longer available to us and we are looking at various options which have to be large enough to accept 80 cars and at the same time not restrict other road users. Motorway services and car parks are therefore not an option and we are looking for very large car parks and/or private land that could be used. If it is private we will of course have to get the permission from the owner. There is the added difficulty that none of the organisation team live in the area, although we do have our Dutch colleagues assisting us on this issue. If anyone has contacts in the Aachen area please let me know.

BTW Mike Helm was out over the weekend doing a reccy and had posted this video of some of the roads in Eastern Europe.

  12. it depends if the switch is at the top or at the bottom of the radiator.
At the top it needs to have higher values than if put in the bottom of the radiator. So if 95 on and 89 off are okay for the top you need something lower if putting in the bottom.

  13. yes, sorry there was something not quite right with the distribution list I was using, this has now been corrected and everybody on the entrants list should have received them by now.

If you have not got them it means I still have a wrong email address for you or your spam filter is working too well. Please let me know via PM if I have the wrong email address.

    Thanks
    Andy
