  1. Sorry to be off topic, but your photo brings back good memories. My brother put in 5" pioneer speakers in the door where the ash tray went. This seemed to be the only place.  All looked great when panel went back on the door, only to realize the window winder would turn full circle. It interfered with the speaker. He had to cut the handle down by about  1/2" Sujit we has a '71 Toledo.
  2. Removing the carbs from the manifold  is one bolt so no harm in removing the carbs. Dont undo the head bolts. I had a tough time getting the manifold back on . It still leaks a little. I've heard of different thickness manifold  gaskets available so check. Check the threads  in the heads for soundness where the manifold attaches to. You may want to consider heli coils.   Sujit

  4. Bought some from the Roadster factory. They are about 2.5 times wider than the original.  They are not slotted. I put them in the freezer over night and then pressed them in with a mallet. Sujit

    Diff whine

Since aftermarket crowns and pinions are no good for the Stag. Is there anything I can have done to my diff to reduce the whine like have shims added or something? Sujit
  6. Thank. Unfortunately, 20 quid to send a 6 quid part Sujit
  7. Post #1 of 2     3/20/2017 12:19 pm Sujit Roy*     I need to get a gearbox cross shaft bush part no. 137651. It's for a Stag but seems to cross reference to other Triumphs. Some vendors offer wider one. Any recommendations where to buy from? Any experience with wishbone classics they seem to have some up rated ones listed for TR6 but cross references for a Stag too. Also, I need to source a cluth release fork. Again seems to be the same as other Triumphs. Again any recommendations? The Carrier/Sleeve - Release Bearing for the Stag is unique any recommendations here? Looks like Rob Sport has a longer custom made LONG NOSE EXTENSION for the carrier sleeve to ride on. Is this the way to go? Sujit
  8. What year bmw 3 series coupe? Regards, Sujit
  9. Just to close this thread. I bought a 12 tonne frame  press from Harbor Freight for less than 100$, with some light mod, to the height of the press, the job became a piece of cake.  I can use the press for a few other projects on the Stag. The gearbox is now empty and clean.  Now for the rebuild. Sujit
  10. I'm in the process of putting on the road a Stag with a manual gearbox with J type overdrive.   The parts book for  Stag shows the front pipes for the J type are different compared to other flavors. I have a good pair of front pipes for a BW35  box. Can I take them to a muffler shop and have them modified or is this false economy? I'm in the US. so I'll have to factor in  shipping cost if I need to have one sent over from the UK. Sujit
  11. Hi Nick, I tried your suggestion, using a lead hammer  the shaft does not want to move.  but you have given me an idea. maybe I can rig up something and use a hydraulic jack to push the shaft through Sujit
  12. On the Stag' OD gearbox, the bearing on the main shaft needs to be removed with a special tool . (S4221A-15A)  The tool appears to fit within the groove of the bearing where the c ring sits. Can I just purchase a regular bearing removing tool from Harbor Freight and rig it up to use this? From looking at some website, on other Triumph this bearing seems to side off, but not on the Stag.   Does anyone in the San Jose bay have such a tool they can lend?
  13. Here's an update to my LED project.  I have Hella 5 1/4 lambs.  The LEDS I got have a fan at the back so the bowl needed to be cut.  No big deal as I have a set which look like they were manufactured without the back of the bowl. The LEDs are very bright. but here is the problem.. The filament on the H4 regular Hella  light bulb faces north, straight up, and produces a nice light pattern with a distinctive cut off whereas the LEDs on the LED lamps I got, face east and west. (There are actually 4 LEDS on each unit) There are dark spots on the road and the beam pattern is totally wierd.  I need to get some LED where the LED faces north to match that of the regular filament lamp. The bulbs are keyed and can only fit one way. Sujit
  14. Actually I thought about this last night while sleeping. That is true. The only difference I would see is that when the car is jacked up off the ground, the distance between the center of the wheel and bottom of wheel arch could be different. On the ground the spring, regular linear spring, on the strut with the shorter shock will be compressed more, but ride hide should be the same. My car is leaning to the rear right and needs new set of springs all round. I'm thinking of using lowered progressive springs. Sujit
  15. In this link, there is a photo of two shocks side by side. One looks original and the other an after market one. The length of the after market one is shorter.  Based on this, wouldn't the car with the aftermarket shock sit closer to the ground? Also, what difference would adding a  lowered spring do for the front of a Stag when used in combination with the shorter strut? I'm can only assume the regular spring would be more compressed compared to the shorter spring. http://triumphstagproject.blogspot.com/ Sujit.
