It might be worth checking the adjustable rubber cones at the bulkhead end of the bonnet. If they are set too far apart, pulling them down into the sockets with the fastening levers could squeeze the bonnet from the sides and push it up in the middle. Mark.

This is how I refurbished my scuttle. With some stiff wire you can hang the M/Cs out of the way from the top of the screen. Just be careful you don't kink the pipes. Mark.
