  1. Having said that I'm sure I can bend a few bits of metal and drill some holes!
  2. Excellent - I'll have a read through, looking for the option which doesn't require too much bracket making and the like as fabrication isn't my strong point!
  3. Ah, yes please, which thread! :) that, whatever it is sounds like jsut the ticket!
  4. So, my wee beastie is getting there - SU carbs and balanced engine now running beutifully after a bedding in service, just a tune to go! :) :) However, when driving the other day in the sweltering 31deg heat it did get a little hot, the temp guage which I know just gives an 'indication' crept most of the way round till a little before the red (maybe 80% - 85% there) before just settling out. I was also a little worried about getting stuck in a jam on the motorway and it seemed to need a good air flow through. It also spluttered a bit when I stopped at some lights - I assume I might be getting some fuel evaporation when stationery. HOT HOT HOT It's got a standard but vgc radiator, a good ali cowl going round the radiator and engine and an electric fan which at this time of year I just leave running. The exhaust is also wrapped to try and keep heat out of the bay. So, what to do! Is it worth swappling out the radiator? Would this most likely not fix the fuel issue anyway? And if I did swap it out is there an aftermarket which wouldn't need welding skills to fix? A lot of the threads I've read here see to require quite a few mods on radiators from other cars. I can see ali GT6 radiators online but they are pretty steep price wise :o :) .. or maybe a bigger / better electric fan if I can find one, any advice very welcome!
  5. fantastic! my old GT6 mk3 was Pimento Red - it's looovvvelly, looking forward to seeing the bits get painted!
  6. Well - I've popped it on fleebay, should anyone be looking for a 2ltr - up for £100 or more, pennies really!
  7. :) that's serious long range helpfullness! and very much appreciated, it's nice to be able to just pop down the road rather than have a complete mission!
  8. Guildford! you're a star, I'm in Elstead 10 mins away from Guildford!! :) .. you mean for once I can find someone to work on my pride n joy that doesn't require hours of driving!! *bliss* Went for further drives in the interim, currently running the engine for 500mls before the mechanic wants the car back to replace the oil, rebalance the carbs and do a final adjust to the tappets. Iinitial pickup is MENTAL - as I guess you'd expect from a fully balanced unit, at lower revs it seems to pull really well, 2 - 3k .. but then it doesn't keep it up quite as well through the rest of the rev range as I'd possibly expect and there isn't much point pushing onwards from 5/6k. It's hard to say as I've never driven a fettled 2ltr triumph engine before so am unsure as to what power delivery characteristics to expect. But I was expecting a little more go higher up the rev range ... mmm
  9. it's looking great! I love the car jig, that's a great idea
  10. novatech could be just the job, not too far away from me either!
  11. excellent! thanks I'll take a look at those :)
  12. Well, I'm very pleased to say my car is coming home tomorrow after a mechanic friend has fitted a balanced 2ltr, with ported and flowed head etc and SU carbs. It runs like a dream and now goes how it looks! However I can't help thinking that we can probably get it running even better if we either get better needles or get the current ones modified (which I've read you can do if you're fully in the know and have a RR). So - can anyone recommend someone that can undertake such work? Preferably in the South if possible as I'm in Surrey :) Also, does anyone have an idea how much it may cost (so I can save some pennies for it!)
  13. yeah, it's complete with all the gubbins! 250, ok cool good to know :)
  14. furry snuff - I'll pop it on fleebay, looks like I missed a trick by not selling it beforehand!
  15. well, it was running good oil pressure before removal, altho as said a decoke would be a good idea (as it's out anyway) and a carb tune up, I could have done it but saw somethingwith a little more poke to drop in and got carried away (no surprise there)
  16. .. I suppose one miiillliiiiooon pounds and retiring early is out of the question .. paaahhh :)
  17. Ello all! Not having sold a GT6 engine before with all the bits attached I'm unsure what I should ask for it! It's complete with stomburg carbs and manifold, delco remy dizzy, 4spd box. All in good nick and was running ok when removed (I upgraded a tad!) .. all it's missing is the shiny alloy rocker cover and one stud under the cover which we popped on the new engine as it was missing both app. The mechanic said it could maybe do with a decoking and carbs tuning up but other that that he thought it was a good runner.
  18. lol! that's great, I used to have a big spindly spider that lived in and around my Elise steering wheel! quite what it ate in there ...
  19. well - see it didn't sell on ebay, time to get taking it appart I guess ...
  20. Really? .. ah well, I guess everyone has their own preferences when it comes to these things, not a biggy to flog the webber as its new and get some SU's I'm sure, perhaps at this rate he would be best breaking it and selling the bits n bobs.
  21. ah, no worries at all - I know exactly where you're coming from, Triumphs do tend to be some what under appreciated! Although, a friend wanted to find a cheap Spitfire for the summer and I'm sure prices seem to have gone up quite a bit this year for a good example??
  22. really?? !! could you even buy all the components parts for that? Then what would it cost to pay someone to put it all together - knowing Frank he's spent untold hours to tlc to put it together :)
  23. lol!! Most probably, I gave them a call last night to prime them for those calls! We also discussed splitting it and selling the bits, seems a shame though as he painstakingly built it up as a unit. The real shame is that he can no longer fit it in one of his own cars :( Folding yourself into a spit at 70 tho - esp with a busted back, not easy!
