  1. Hey Docman yep they are the very same as smithys, used all year round sun, rain, snow. Occasionally pressure washed and greased, will happily sit at 70-80 on the motorway without shaking the car to pieces (now that they are properly balanced). Always fancied a centre laced set and picked them up as a set of 5 with as new tyres hubs, spinners and nuts for a bargain price on fleabay
  2. Morning all, was out in the gt6 last night and the overdrive stopped working, using a multimeter traced the fault to the OD relay. The relay has 5 spade connectors on it so after a rummage in the shed I have found 2 lucas 6 ra relays but with only 4 spade connections. Anyone know if these will work with the OD, as I'm guessing they are horn relays. Any help much appreciated,  cheers Chris
  3. I think the best and safest way to test it is to make sure the inhibitor switch is working. This is a safety switch on top of the gearbox the stops overdrive kicking in while reversing with the overdrive switch on.  A simple test is with the ignition on and the car in neutral move the gear stick to the right without putting it in gear and trip the switch, you should hear the relay and solonoid click. Then move the gearstick to the left and repeat the process, if the inhibitor is working and adjusted correctly you will not hear the relay or solonoid trip. Hope that makes sense
  4. Anyone had their wires balanced with good results anywhere in London ? I live in harrow and just got a new set of boots for the GT6. After ringing around and visiting some of my local tyre fitters and asking "can you fit and balance knock off wire wheels" I have had responses like "I don't know what they are mate bring em in and I'll take a look", " knock off wheels, does that mean there fake?", and my personal favourite " you don't need to balance wire wheels mate as old cars don't tend to go fast enough". Some people eh !
  5. Cheers guys problem sorted, easy when you know how ;-) will refit it all on the weekend
  6. After aligning the cam with oil pump plunger looking up into the overdrive I can see two sets of splines that don't quite line up. As I turn the flange that bolts to the prop I can see both sets of spines move together, should they move independently if I hold one set with a screwdriver ? Had a go at that but didn't want to exert too much force on them.
  7. Has anyone had a go at this, I removed the unit off the back of the box to sort an oil leak on my mk2 gt6 now I can't get the bugger back on. I can get it to slide down so that the studs on the overdrive sit 1mm above the gearbox casting face with the studs lined up but for the life of me can't get the bloody thing any further. Any tips would be much appreciated to stop me going mad, cheers
