    Radio Wiring

Thanks guys, I was hoping Barry with his rebuild knew what was what! I may well use the live and earth feeds (the two wires I know) and just put in fresh wires for the speakers. I'm only using two so should be ok... Strange that the wiring diagrams in the books only show the two wires, though, wonder if the full BL manual is any more enlightening!

I still reckon the red/black twin wire is the earth for the two speakers (looking elsewhere that would make sense), and the yellow/red is definitely the feed, but what are the others...

Just put a voltmeter across the wires. The yellow/red has 12v (11.9V to be exact) going through it with the ignition on. None of the others have any voltage either with or without the ignition on. So that rules out the "constant" feed in the red wire... Mmmm...  :(

I didn't list the black as it is separate, sounds like I can ignore the blue wire then. The yellow/red is the only wire listed in the Haynes and Autodata manuals and as the feed from the fuse box, so on that basis perhaps the red is the constant feed? So carrying on the theme, the brown and grey are the outputs to the speakers (mine only has one speaker!) and the red/black "double" wire will be the earth for the speakers?

I thought I'd have a nice easy job in replacing the broken radio with a shiny new one, but I've run up against a slight problem. The plug at the back has six (well, seven actually) wires coming from the back plus the black earth wire which is separate, but I'm not sure what they do and the manuals only list two. So can anyone tell me what they do: On the plug, from the left: Top         Blue                Brown                      Grey Bottom    Yellow/Red     Red/Black(2 wires)   Red I think the Yellow/Red is the main feed wire but am not sure what the rest do... Help!!
  6. Certainly looks the same from the piccies in the Haynes manual... Other than the changes to the carbs the engine was a straight swap wasn't it?

And don't bother with lane discipline...

There's also the petrol itself, if its 13 years old I suspect it will have gone off!

I suppose the first question is have you serviced it? that's the first thing I did when I got mine, which had been off the road for about 5 years and it runs fine...
  10. Sounds like it could be good news... I wonder what else is "shared" with other BL stuff (as opposed to Honda!)?
  11. I know this is a long time ago, but did anyone follow it up as I've got to get mine done!
