  1. Aye... Canleys have always been helpful in the past. Will give it a try... :-/
  2. You got me doubting myself. Just been out & checked my pistons. The 16PB stainless pistons are slightly taller than the old pistons. Don't fit into the callipers either. B@#$... Looks like I've got old 16P callipers on a mk3 gt6 chassis. Got sixty quids worth of stainless pistons going cheap if anyone wants them...  :-/
  3. Sorry for the delay. Part number for stainless pistons is 157685S. Assembled the front axles today. Really don't need the water seal.
  4. Latest box of goodies arrived from Canley Classics this week..  :) Bit depressing how small a box £500 odd adds up to..  :-/ Couple of questions.. Rebuilding my callipers with stainless pistons. Do I need to use any kind of grease when inserting? Or do they go in with just a smear of brake fluid on them. Also... On the front stub axle, item 138559 (water shield) is no longer available anywhere. Is there something else that can be used, or have people just done without..? And... Done away with the rotoflex, & treated myself to a cv conversion kit  :). Having real trouble finding the spacers for setting the end float. Any ideas..? Probably many more questions once I start assembling, but that's all I can think of at the moment.. Many thanks.
  5. Ok thanks. Will go down to.the garage after work & write down exactly what is written on each...
  6. Unscrewed the brake pipe unions & swapped them over. Both screwed in fine to the other... Apart from subtle shape difference, they appear the same. Think I will find a matched pair though...
  7. Trying to upload photos, but it says files too big... Looking at the front callipers from my '71 gt6 chassis, they appear to be slightly different shapes. Pistons appear to be identical, & threads the same. One definately has metric written on it, so obviously thinking someone has put a later one on one side. With regards to the stainless pistons and seals kit I've already ordered, am I going to have a problem...? Thanks.
  8. Got the carbs today. Very dusty but appear intact. Manifold too.. :-) Leaning towards staying with the strombergs (I change my mind alot..!) Seems to be favour for hs4's though....
  9. Gt6s wrote:You can shorten the dashpot ( only the front carb needs doing ) enough to clear the bonnet don't forget the inner damper tube and piston rod need cutting by the same amount. This is the way I did it on my Sixfire. Laurence Interesting.....  ;)
  10. Ok thanks. Only experience is with SU's, but will have to get to grips with Strombergs...!
  11. Ok thanks. So is it a case of the whole carbs are unsuitable, or can I just change the pots? Not affecting me financially either way, as I'm not paying for them. Will just say no thanks if they're totally wrong...
  12. Am I correct in thinking that standard HS6 dash pots don't fit under a gt6 bonnet..? Relative has found a complete pair in his garage, with manifolds, & I would like to use them. If they don't fit, how easy is it to get stubby pots...? Many thanks.
  13. Will be doing poly bushes all round, as part of the nut & bolt rebuild...  :)
  14. Excellent. Thanks Richard. Will get back out there tomorrow...  :)
  15. Me again... :-/ The two rear bushes on the diff, the ones that the long bolt goes through... Are they made with an inner sleeve, then rubber, then an outer metal sleeve? Can't get the rubber out, as it seems to be glued to the outer sleeve. Don't want to start trying to drive out the outer sleeve if it's part of the diff... Still not got those rear vertical link bolts off either... :(
  16. Nice one thanks. Won't be in the garage till Tuesday now. Borrowed a blowlamp, so will get it nice & hot. Nowt wrong with a bit of brute force...  :) Just to be sure though... Is there any danger of weakening the bracket composition by using a blowlamp too long...?
  17. Thanks.... :-/ One side is going to have to be drilled out, as I cut through the bolts... Do want the bushes changed though, as looks like it's been a very long time since they were touched. Many thanks.
  18. Glad you said about cutting, cos I tried that on one side. Bolt through the hub is indeed solid. Need to save the hub, so careful drilling is the next step... Just wanted to make sure I'm not missing something obvious...
  19. How the piggin' ell do I get the long bolt that goes through the lower wishbone & vertical link out..? The two bushes look shot, & there is absolutely no give at that joint. Tried heat. Went & bought a 400Nm impact wrench. Not budging... It's a gt6 rotoflex by the way...
  20. I've got what I believe to be a 3:63 diff, with a j type overdrive, on my disassembled mk3 gt6. Is this ok...?
