  1. I'm not to keen on the Metro lights fitted to the rear of the my Bond estate and would quite like to fit original Bond type rear light clusters, can one of you kind gents advise on length with bezel , hight with bezel, and thickness including the bezel, and  if anyone has a pair I would be interested
  2. thanks thought I might have got lucky with it being a standard bumper !, will have to make the best of what I have then
  3. on buying my Equipe GT, I received an original front bumper this requires holes welding up in it and rechroming there are some other scuffs on it so not ideal material to have refinished, can anyone tell me if this bumper is was used on other Triumph models it has an internal horizontal measurement of 56" and looks very similar to 1500tc bumpers, I know there are wider triumph bumpers of the same pattern used as the car is currently wearing one that is to wide and hand painted black, see front photo in Harry makes two thread, thanks Robbie
  4. Thanks guys, might risk the cutlery draw and also buy a cheap plastic set of flea bay
  5. Can someone recommend a door trim removal tool that will do the job without damaging the card or door?
  6. Sure I picked up that wd40 is hydroscopic on the net, that dosnt mean its correct mind, I have stopped using it on my bikes and cars as I 've had parts look like they have had brown rain on them after coating only a month prior!, abrasive polishes should only be used to remove rust from a chromed part buff off and then wax to seal. I'll be going to Silvabronz in a couple of weeks with a steel bumper and some v trims (front bumper of my new /old Bond v5 not in my hand yet so saying no more!). I will give you the heads up on the Triumph v trims when back , I know they do Mazak/ cast/ monkey metal as I said I've had cast parts plated there, I have photos on disc somewhere of the parts (on disc as the hard drive went ) if I find them I'll post them, Ring them they are really busy and have a fairly long waiting list on works and I dont think they call the plating on Mazak chrome plating ! although it is the same finish, my parts where on a Russian delivery/camper scooter that was stored in an old concrete garage for 2 years after fitting and where as good as the day I picked them up,
  7. finish is a lot down to how you look after it I asked the platers what I should do to preserve chrome there answer was to always keep it clean and once cleaned and dried seal with a good quality wax polish, do not cover your chrome with wd40 in the winter it is hydroscophic and absorbs and retains water so will actually promote rust use engine oil or silicone based grease to keep the road salt and water out
  8. I've had small items of monkey metal chromed buy them ie handlebar switch housings throttle end caps etc the items where pitted into the metal below through the chrome and the finished items where totally unblemished A1 finish they have also plated steel headlamp rims for me again as new!, the headlamp cowls are large items and if badly pitted would require a lot of work . Best case as always is to give the platers the best possible items you have for refinishing as they require less work, I would take one in and get an estimate as to cost , it wont be cheap though !, if they are parts that you just cant buy nos then you have to bite the bullet and spend after all they are the highlight finishing components on the car!
  9. SILVABRONZ near ALTON Hants, they specialize in re chroming parts just such as this, their process includes specialist  fillers to fill any pitting in the original part so you will receive an original part that is as new, I've had work done and they are expensive but you pay for what you get and their work is A1 !

The Vitesse  bumper trim rivets directly on the valance no clips involved !, try Chic Doig he will make you some if he does not stock them
  12. dash courtesy light on a Vtesse convertible, can someone please advise on the bulb and wattage for the dash courtesy light, can they turned on with the door closed as it has a swing clip type switch over the bulb holder (is this just to hold the bulb in?) thanks
  13. a few pointers required on doing a crank trust bearings check on a prospective purchase?, motor insitu would you still be able to get forward/arft movement from the timing belt pulley with the fan belt etc still under tension? (i cant move my pully on my covertible which is still in the car)), if someone had said they hadn't ever checked for play on a car they recently purchased, would you reckon that's a plausible over site given the nature of the trust bearing wear being significant to motor health?

  15. just my take on it lads!, while I bow to the knowledge of the guys using said battery optimisers (I dont and wont own one) This is a Fact Over time on trickle charge, some of the acid in a lead acid battery can chemically react with the lead and turn into crystalized lead sulfate this expands this can and will cause a battery to overflow causing a fire!, overtime of course . let alone the cheap components being used in the chargers them selves. I believe some offer pulsed wave charging others dont and use inferior parts and you probably wont no what you have brought ..................... I'll stay old school thanks and properly charge my batteries to cycle them I know when its charging I know its venting properly I know when its fully charged the one in my 200tdi Defender (2.5 diesel) is a Bosch Battery and 8 years old and going strong,
  16. personally I've always been put off these they are a considerable fire risk!, you will be lured into a false sense of security that is low voltage and wont be do any harm wont be sticking your head in the garage so often to check everything is ok!, the voltage transformers are cheap Chinese/Korean units they all use them and  they tend to over heat and catch fire, better to go through a winter routine and charge your battery once a month/6 weeks if you aren't using the car or if you are and using the lights a lot extreme cold and frost with effect battery voltage big time !, I do this on my old Landrover Defender as the diesel engine has a lot of compression and the cranking voltage it draws will soon knacker a battery. you minimise the risk by using your charger just once a moth and generally an afternoons charge is enough
  17. Whilst looking at some photos of a mark 2 Vitesse I have noticed that the inner wheel arches on the font wings are spot welded in place!, was or is it different on the 1600? I ask because mine are riveted on along the lip of the wing and not spot welded !, is this yet another bodge on my car?
  18. yep hadn't done my homework again I had seen 3 spokes fitted to 1600's and thought they where standard fit. Spider that was the one I retracted my bid from after seeing Marks Comment (thanks Mark!) would need the wheel/ horn push/ horn pencil/ slip ring etc well the whole steering wheel assembly !, on the trail of one not to far from me so can pick it up if he gets back to me!, i'm near Southampton, what sort of money you after Mark?
  19. and thanks Bxbodger will have to try moving it about!, opted for the Vitesse as I can get in and out even with my back
  20. Are you sure on the two spoke for a 64 Vitesse Mark?, sorry to question you mate but no point me fitting a 3 spoke if its wrong for the car eh! shame mind as the 3 spoke is nicer to look at!!!
  21. Are there different triumph standard fit steering wheels fitted to Vitesse's?or where they all 15", mine has a 13"Monteray wheel fitted and that dosn't give masses of leg room under the steering wheel, mind you the diaphragms on the seats are gone and the previous owner has slung in some ply under them one of his better dodges (plenty on the car!). looking to go back to the 3 legged sprung type originally fitted to a 64 1600
