If you’re happy with Haynes data:

    Conrod bolts: 38-42 lb/ft

    Mains to block: 55-60 lb/ft

And there’s no distinction between the figures for 2000/2.5PI. Those figure look the same as GT and Spit to me 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Thanks Ben. 👍

  2. Would anyone be able to supply me with the torques setting for the mains and big ends for a 2.5 pi? All of my manuals are for the GT6 so only cover the 2.0L. I'm guessing they could be the same but would like to check

    Thanks

I'd like to say the Spitfire just needs some running but its track record doesn't yet give me any confidence. At the weekend I fitted a bit of fuel pipe to correct the kinked hose that had led to the pump being loose (a Facet one in the boot) to get any fuel through:

The tank and filter were new last year, after the residue from POR15 "tank sealer" flaking off had prevented it from doing the 2018 RBRR.

Richard Warr had the same issue in 2018. He had sealed his rank and a piece dropped off and blocked his fuel outlet. He ended up doing it in his co-drivers, Dave Maton, unprepared Mk1 saloon.

Quite a comprehensive list RichC if all this to be accomplished and the car shaken down by 1st October for the 27th RBRR. However, be encouraged that some have overcome bigger challenges in 5 months or so before previous Runs. It's good to know you have a keen young assistant and even better to hear he may consider classic restoration as a career. There is a definite future need for such skills and some excellent apprenticeships available.

Just a point on the o/d. I think your Herald has a column switch like the TR4A. If the circuit is similar be aware that if one of the leads to this switch shorts to earth then the inhibitor switches will be bypassed and o/d will be permanently engaged in any gear (INCLUDING REVERSE) whenever the ignition is on. Be sure the leads are well insulated where they are routed down the steering column. I think you will notice an improvement from the a solid rack mounts in reducing float and sharpening response. When I fitted such mounts to the TR I had to take a little off the mating faces to ensure they actually clamped the rack securely (without crushing it of course). You should check this point.

A very good point regarding the rack mounts. I also had to take some off the mounting faces in order to get them to clamp enough to stop the rack moving.

    Hi Everyone

My Spitfire is being renovated at the moment. Before it is too late should one upgrade brakes ignition seats etc or keep everything original in order to retain future value or not?

I will also need new tyres and is there one particular tyre that stands out more than others?

    Thank you in advance

    Savash

Modifications is entirely up to you. Things like electronic ignition with correct coil and bypassing the ballast wire at the same time along with maybe a Huco low pressure fuel pump are nice upgrades in order to improve reliability. Standard brakes are very good, standard interior is comfortable.

In relation to tyres a good quality premium brand is always best, Goodyear, uniroyal, yokohama, etc.

    Hi Tim

What's extreme about the Westfield seats? Lack of padding perhaps? I am looking forward to sitting in your GT6 sometime to try out those seats.

    Regards

    Bruce

They are very narrow Bruce. The kit car community call them kidney crushers! Padding isn't bad. I think mine could do with a little more in the base but I've no idea how old they are or how much use they have had. I have seen another set that are the same as mine for sale except they have yellow piping and he wants £350 for the pair

  7. My mk3 GT6 needs the newly rebuilt limited slip diff putting back in, the crank thrust washers need attention and the gearbox tunnel needs extending a little more to make a good seal on the bulkhead as the type 9 5 speed gearbox has been raised a touch to accommodate the new extractor manifold and 2 1/4 inch exhaust system. This means the tunnel doesn't quite fit anymore. Then just tidying the interior and I may put the original passenger seat in as the Westfield wide body seats I currently have in the car are pretty extreme for such a long drive.

  8. I notice that if you Google club triumph its still directing to the old site and the new one doesn't appear unless you type the Web address into the browser. I know @Craigsaid he'd made the site invisable to Google in the early days but should we now be looking to change that? Everytime I tell someone about the new site I have to include the Web address as they couldn't find it on their own.

  9. My LSD using a blackline unit and 3.27 gear set build by 2spec didn't go very well but it was the first one they had done. pinion bearings failed after 2000 miles and looked like they had been over loaded when setting the preload. the bearings we not Timkin but were good quality Japanize bearings.  the carrier bearings were Timkin and still in good condition apart from all of the silver swarf generated by the failed pinion bearings making them unusable. The diff was very noisy from the start and the oil was silver on both oil changes. The diff has now been rebuilt using a crownwheel and pinion from a dolomite 1850 auto (3.27) and a full set of Timkin bearings. I haven't fitted it to the car as yet but will be doing so in about 3 weeks time.

  10. OK that makes sense. A couple of them from the Shropshire group had access last November when we did the first lot of testing so I assumed at least those two would have had access. It's not an issue but thought it strange as a couple of guys from the Cheshire group have been able to login.

  11. I've asked 4 club triumph members of the Shropshire group to log onto the site to get their feedback. 2 have tried so far and can't get access. Is this because the site is still restricted to just the website committe.
