    So not just the UK where suppliers are disappearing. Not good at all. Hopefully an alternative supplier can be found. 

  2. The usual suppliers sell kits for (eg) front suspension, rear etc etc. 

    I have found reusing bolts is fine once inspected and a minute on the wire wheel of my bench grinder. Obviously some need changing, but not many and it saves a fortune. 

    Bags of nuts and washers are available either from Namrick in Hove or your favorite online supplier.

     

    If interested, I do have some nut/bolt packs, possibly covering most of a car. They are all still bagged from the supplier, and are proper zinc plated. Not stainless for the reasons pointed out by John.

    The art of compromise! We moved house 11 years ago, almost accidentally. But we happened to see a corner plot house close to where we lived that had potential. First thing we did was build a decent sized garage. And level the garden (200 tonnes of chalk went via grab lorries) 

  4. Any workshops etc being sold will have been used commercially, it would be extremely rare to find one that has not.

    Your best bet is a "domestic" garage, bigger the better. But again most do not have water/electricity. But a decent sized battery and a solar panel should help that situation. 

  5. It depends what quality of finish you are looking for. So why not try it on some internal panels and see how it works out? There are some downsides. It does not polish well (unless things have changed in the last decade) and to respay again would require a few years for that to harden, then 2K primer, or an isolator coat, making prep more difficult. It would also affect resale value (if that matters to you)

    As you say, a pro respray is not a cheap thing to have done.

  6. Nope, stags use the same pump as dolomite/tr7.

    It could be an "alternative" external pump. I think there was one that was used from a Ford, but never seen one. Thesedays the electric pumps are the go to alternative.

  7. When I installed lap belts in my Vitesse convertible (same body) I had a central bolt positioned at the bottom of the rear edge of the seat base, or a smidge behind/up. Plenty of spring clearance. At the sides I mounted onto the inner wheel arches. A little up from the join of the seat pan and the spring tunnel. Obviously large reinforcing washers were used in all positions. 

    My daughters spent many hours strapped into kiddie seats and then on booster cushions, then when bigger sat on the back seat, always with those lapbelts on.

    I like angled fittings at the cap end, and straight at the plug ends.

    The king lead straight at coil end, angled at distributor..

    As for supplier, I like the stuff from Mr Retroleads. 8mm leads and choose your colour.

    The car is not mine, but a Club member. I am posting on behalf of them. 

    Hopefully news will spread and the car will be found.

    In a similar theme, the Vitesse I inherited was stolen from the previous owner and was missing for some time. There was an international plea put out, and teh car was eventually spotted parked up in London. It still has the dent where the scroat levered the locking fuel cap off. (this was 30 years ago, there are still some of the photocopied leaflets/posters with the car)

  13. referring to the canley diagram, No31 is the door glass channel. That is the bit that can rot, but if yours is good, it isn't the issue. The glass can lift out of the channel too, originally it was pressed fit into the channel with some rubber gasket to grip it, but often replaced with sealant/adhesive.

    Next are 2 "prongs" of the mechanism that fit into that channels slots. These are retained in the slots and a leather washer and a spring clip (38 and 39) which you can't see as they are between the channel and the doorskin. If either of the prongs can be pulled out from the channel, that is your issue. 

    If you want to remove the doorglass (the channel stays on) yu need to remove the rubber weatherstrop from the door, undo the 2 spring clips and washers (38/39) then you will be able to remove the door glass. Study a pic of those clips so you know what you are "feeling for" and how to undo them.

  14. First thing is to remove the doorcard so you can see the issue. 

    Often the glass channel has rotted away, or the mechanism has popped out.

  16. There is some non setting sealant in there, which has probably gone rather hard after 50 years. 

    So drill the rivets out, and then tease the capping off. I would clean off the old sealant, and use something like a gutter sealant or similar. Silicone sealants will make it VERY hard to ever remove it again. 

    The original stuff was probably sealastic or dumdum
