  1. Yesterday in Spit 1500 I was held up for about 35 mins in heavy traffic. Temp gauge never went above normal but when I eventually started to move the car ran like a pig. I suspect the under bonnet electric pump had got too hot. I also fitted another pump in the boot for back up, so switched over to that one via swith on dash and instantly started running normally. I think this is one of the mods that payed off. Danny

    What is it

OK managed to open and indeed it's an inline fuse 10A. Everything still works with fuse removed and there is no live detected either end even with ignition on. The label tied round the harness where the wire comes out is attached. But is this a modification or normal for late Spits. Be interesting if anyone with a late Spit can have a look. Danny

    What is it

I thought it was a fuse holder but it won't push together and I don't really want to force it too much incase I break it. I may give it another go and see what stops working when apart. I'm also wondering if it's standard. Danny

    What is it

Yeah that's what I spotted, seems strange the wire comes out of the loom and then goes back in 6 inches later. Could be red with purple tracer. My boot light will stay on with all fuses removed which I could not work out. I'll will go and get a photo. Danny

    What is it

I noticed while fixing passenger side curtesy door switch. Behind the footwell carpet the loom has a red/purple wire coming out and going back in via a white plastic connector. Looks like an inline fuse but slimmer. Cannot disconnect or open it and didn't want to force it. I can't find it on any wiring diagrams. Spit 1500 Danny
  6. Email sent to hello@clubtriumph.co.uk yesterday. Danny dannyb@btinternet.com
  7. I can't see why the timing should be affected with a head gasket change. Only valve adjustments. Danny
  8. I will be up for this. I've added it to my diary. Not on Facebook so please keep us updated on forum. Danny
  9. 1970 I bought 1965 Spitfire4 for £350. I was 17 and the insurance was £75 fully comprehensive. It was stage2 tuned with 8 port head. Never told the insurance that bit. Danny
  10. Sometimes air can be drawn from outside through the nipple threads. It may help to smear some grease around the nipple when bleading. I always grease my nipples 😋 Danny
  11. I must admit the bullet mirrors were for look rather than the standered door mirror. I also have a clip on mirror on the quarter light which I tend to use more. Danny
  12. I also put convexed in my bullet mirrors which transformed them. I went for were stainless steel ones after the chrome ones rusted. Danny
  13. I've added the thicker oil and took it for a run today. Noise still there but not as load. I also emailed Mike Papworth. He said could be end float on lay gear or maybe tooth broken off 1st motion shaft. Which is common on the single rail box with the bellhousing oil seal. Because the spare box has the same noise I may fix that and swap it out. Meanwhile keep driving. Danny
  14. Fuel price does not affect me. I only ever put £20 in. 🤔
  15. That will be interesting to find out which one to keep. At the moment I have drained the oil and replacing it with 84/140 GL4. I'll see how that goes. Just waiting for another ltr to arrive as I forgot it takes just over a litre with the o/d. I still have a spare box with o/d and Bell housing sitting on the shelf which is in good condition but made the same noise when fitted a few years ago. Not sure if that's got any springs fitted as I never had the bell housing off since I've had it. Might one day have it checked over and refit but I don't feel my back is up to it at the moment. See how this one gets on with the thicker oil. Maybe a job for next winter. Danny
  16. I bit too far from Essex for me. I think the club did organise one at Bicester which was good. Danny
  17. Thanks Clive. I'll try some 85/140 oil and see how that goes. What about sawdust 🤔. Danny
  18. Yeah definitely had them. I remember fitting them. Could it be they are worn as they were the original springs since the car was made. Danny
