  1. I watched it tonight on BBC iplayer. Just click on chan 4 and your see it. Danny
  2. I have just received today a dizzy from Aldon. They have set it up for a slightly tuned 1500 Spit. I decided against the 123 programmable dizzy as to expensive, and the 123 switched as I weren't sure if it had the correct advance. Plus if I get around to rebuilding the original engine sitting in the garage, I want to get tuned to stage 2. This means I can have the advance curve altered on a rolling road session. Where the 123 switched would be limited. Should be fitting it this weekend. Danny

    Nano cloths

As they say. If it's too good to be true. It's a con 😊 And if it did work all the body shops would be using it.
  4. Has anyone had any experience of Nano cloths and Nano spray on scratched paintwork. It says it works on all paint and looks to good to be true. Plus they are expensive. Danny
  5. That's great to see. A great event to have taken part in with the bonus of helping others. Good choice of names.
  6. Had the car 2 years. It was fitted with 8 port head and fast road cam.

  9. It's a shame as my old dizzy was set up on a rolling road 5 years ago. The tuner took it apart and ground the weights to give it more advance. I could put it back together but not sure what the missing spring size was. Thought I would have found it in the bottom of the dizzy but no. Can't see where it could have gone. Apart from the spring the vacuum advance arm had come off, no wonder it run rough.
  10. Has anyone had any experience with Aldon Automotive distributors.
  11. I have a spare dizzy which I may fit and also transfer over the spark right electronic pickup. Some years back when I went on a rolling road. The guy took my dizzy apart and filed bits to give it a more advanced curve.
  12. My Spit 1500 Dizzy is shot. Spring missing and the remaining one unattached. Is the 123 dizzy worth getting. I thinking of the standard one. Can't see the point of the programmable one as its a standard engine setup. What are your thoughts on them. Danny
  13. Great website. Nice and fast, a fitting website for our club and so many logged on. Thanks to all involved Danny
  14. Quoted from PeteStupps- Good news about the woodruff key though!  Is it possible that your valve timing has been 4 degrees out since you repaired the crank nose? I remember taking my time double checking getting it all lined up. The car was running   very well since the spring of 2019. This seems to have started after the brakes seized and had to drive it to safety which must have put a terrible load on the engine.
  15. Good news and bad news today.  I checked the valve timing with valves 1&2 on the rock and found the tdc was 4 deg out. Took the timing chain cover and the found the woodruff key and repair was OK. Could the duplex chain have jumped the sprocket teeth when Tring to drive with locked up brakes? Not taken the chain and sprockets yet to check all the teeth, although the ones I could see looked OK. Danny
  16. Sorted the timing light. When HT leads are touching it messes up the timing light.  But I have a much bigger problem of misfire above 2,ooo revs. And the timing light shows it about 25 deg btdc. On the 2018 rbrr the flywheel bolts come loose and the jarring recked the bottom sprocket and woodruff key and the slot in the crank. Although I repaired it with j b weld I believe the problem I had last September with the locked up brakes has broken the repair and the cam timing is out. I will comfirm this next week when I get time.  If it has I'm thinking of drilling through the sprocket and crank and pinning it.  Danny
  17. I drained off 20 litres and put it in my modern which had 3/4 tank so this filled it right up. Car runs OK and now down to half a tank so will fill up with fresh tomorrow.  The spitfire now has full tank of fresh. Although I seem to have another problem. I wanted to check the timing but can't get the gun to fire on leads 1 & 2. 3&4 OK and also the lead from the coil. I have the clamp around the correct way, arrow to spark plug. Also getting good spark on all leads with an I line spark tester.  Don't make much sence. Anyone else come across this? Also tried swapping out the leads. Danny
  18. Took the Spit for first drive since November. Wouldn't start until I used quick start. It had rough idle and when driven it misfired and backfired. I drained the petrol and filled it up with fresh and it ran like a dream. I worked out the petrol was 7 months old. Never had this before but then its the longest I've not used the car. Danny
  19. All sorted, very easy no problems at the post office. It's funny that rhe production date 23rd March 1980 is my older sons Birthday, well he was 1 year old then. Danny
  20. I will be going to the post office tomorrow to get my free road tax and get the log book changed to Historic on my 1980 Spitfire. The dvla shows the production date as Dec 31st. But I have a heritage certificate which says Mar 23rd 1980. Do I need to send that off separately to get that changed or will the post office send it off with the log book to the dvla. Danny
  21. Yeah that makes sense. I have also noticed it only happens on choke. When warm it is very slight and would not be niticed.  Just got to keep on bleeding I suppose to get firm up the pedal.  Danny
  22. I have just noticed with the engine ticking over, if I pump my brake pedal the engine speed will. Rise a few hundred revs and dies down when I release the pedal. Is this normal, I can't say I've noticed it before.  I have can't get a hard pedal after bleeding the brakes three times.  Danny
