  1. I've have noticed the difference since fitting Uniroyal rainexpert3 175/70 13 Very pleased with them. Danny
  2. Is the bonnet adjusted right. How's the door gaps and gap along the sill. You can raise the bonnet on the front hinges.
  3. Atspeed is well worth the extra miles of travel. The guys a wizard. Danny
  4. Also joined BT at 16 in 1969. Retired in 2019. 50 years mostly enjoyable. Danny
  5. I had a that sort of thing on my Spit 1500. I could see the timing moving all over the place on tick over with the timing light. I think mine was due to the faulty ballast wire which was only putting out 4 volts. I bypassed it with a 12v supply and a new 12v coil. Since then it has been on a rolling road tune-up. Danny
  6. Restore = resistor.... Bloody predicted text.
  7. Can't see a pink/white ballast wire in your photos, or a ballast restore. So I suspect you have a 12v coil. To make sure measure the resistance of the coil. Ballast = 1.5 ohms Non ballast = 3 ohms Danny

    Fuel filter

I have one just before the fuel pump but I have the R9 fuel pipe from the pump around bulkhead to the carbs, so wondered about fitting a second filter just before the carbs to catch any debris if the fuel pipe from pump to carbs starts breaking up. Weren't sure if too many filters would affect flow. Danny

    Fuel filter

I have just cleaned out my SU float bowls and valves which contained black rubber partials. I've got all R9 fuel pile with filter tank side of the pump. Can I fit another filter near the carbs. Danny
  10. I have done that. No problem. I did take the bonnet strut off so I could lift the bonnet higher and tied it to the roof of garage. I found I needed to have the front wheels on blocks so I could slide the engine hoist under the car. Without the gearbox there's plenty of room. And was surprised how easy it was to mate it back onto the gearbox. Danny Ps... I did it on my own.
  11. I fitted https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/233158072099?fits=Model%3ASpitfire&epid=17030079063&hash=item36494dd723:g:E1YAAOSwAzBgXAnJ 5 years ago and have had no problems. Top hose just about fits and the radiator needs to sit as low as possible for the filler cap to clear the bonnet. Danny
  12. Yesterday I dug out a good spare ballast coil from my sparesand rigged it up to the ballast wire. It confirmed 4v from the ballast wire under load. I wondering if some sort of short could have happened on the ignition circuit which is not fused could have affected the solid state voltage regulator and ballast wire. Danny
  13. OK we are up and running now. This has been very strange. I have checked everything, valve timing. Static timing, spark ugs, leads,carbs.. In the end I checked the voltage on the ballast wire under load, it was only 4v. Can't understand why it wouldn't start with 12v supplied straight to it unless it was flooded. Anyway I have now fitted a lucas 12v sports coil and bypassed the ballast wire and all seems good. Unable to road test at the moment with this weather. The other strange thing it the fuel and temp gauge stopped working which is because the solid state voltage regulator is fried, its only putting out 2v. Fitted the original and the gauges work, so ordered a new solid state one. Seems strange that both these problems are all linked to the ignition wires. Its booked in for a rolling road tune at the end of the month. Danny
  14. Hi Rob. It's only the odd fire, one or two the most. I have taken the Accuspark of and fitted set of points. I notice when the ign is on and I break the points there's not much of a spark. I'm sure if my memory is right when I last had a set of points fitted I got more of a spark. The spark at the points is hardly noticeable. I may rig up a spare coil and bypass all the ignition system. Danny
  15. I'm getting a good spark and fuel. It will try to fire but only when turning on the starter. So I have looked at the ballast wire. Disconnected it from the coil and with ignition off I get a reading of 4 ohms between it and earth. If I turn on the ignition I'm getting 12v supply. Have I got a ignition wiring problem or am I confusing myself. I also tried a 12v feed from battery to the coil and removed the ballast wire and still would not start. I know its a 6v coil but should be OK for a minute or so.. Could it be the ignition switch? Any ideas would be appreciated. Danny
  16. Got to watch out for the pooofs 😂
  17. Thanks Rob. That's interesting asim sure mine is measuring a lot more. I will get a potentiometer and set it to 70 ohms and see where the dial reads. Danny
  18. I'm Tring to find thr resistance at normal temperature. Danny
  19. Thanks Clive. The gauge does not match the actual water temperature. I was also looking at the adjustable senders although the are a bit expensive. Danny.
  20. Does anyone have the resistance readings for a lucas water temperature sender. 1500 Spit. Danny
  21. Thank Jim. I'll have ago with the app. I can play the video myself on my channel, just thought everyone else can. No wonder there's no many views. Danny
  22. Above should say... Adj carbs and timing. 😌
  23. Fitted the new dizzy from Aldon and finished adjusting cars and timing. Went for a test drive and it running pretty well. I'd say 95% so just needs a bit more fiddling. The dizzy came with the advice to set initial timing at 12 deg btc which I did. Danny
  24. Yeah this is not added music. I had the music playing on the radio at the time of filming. YouTube won't let me download it back from my account. It's annoying because I have no copy of it on my laptop. Danny
  25. I'll see if I can sort it out. May have to remove the sound.
