    New radiator?

Hi All Having had the expansion pipe soldered back after it parted company with the header neck it has gone again. The cause, which is now evident on closer inspection, is that the expansion bottle is loose in the fixing bracket. Even when tightened fully it still moves about - reason because someone back in the day used a Xerox toner bottle which is clearly to narrow for the bracket! This presumably explains why a cable tie was used to secure the pipe to one of the rad hoses. Obviously the correct replacement header bottle needs to be purchased and secured properly.   Preamble over my dilemma is then should I get the pipe resolder back onto the radiator or having tried once is it always going to be a weak point. Despite the cost of a new rad I wouldn't want it to fail again whilst out and about leaving me stranded somewhere. Any thoughts welcome. Regards Andy
  2. Hi Did anyone take up the offer of the header rail in the end? If not I would be interested as mine went last week. Had a temp repair undertaken but now passenger door can't shut with the hood fixed! Rimmers is more like £300 once inc. VAT and postage and agree - rather steep. Thanks Andy
  3. I'd have kept the 'banjo' steering wheel too!?
  4. Update. It turned out to be electronic ignition failure.  Changed to standard set up and now running very nicely. Also seemed to be a choke issue, just needs to be a 1/4 out from cold. Something to do with wear on part that mixes the air/fuel if I understand correctly - fully out causes a vacuum preventing fuel flow. Anyway just taken out for a 30 minute blast and all seems OK. No doubt there will be other niggles though! Thanks for the help. Andy
  5. Well checked plugs and there is a spark so good news there. Assume then it is fuel issue, haven't checked this yet as no help available and working in the gloom of the garage. But will check to see if petrol is flowing as suggested to the carbs next w/end now. May be some dirt in fuel line or something up with the pump. Cheers. Andy
  6. Hi All, Thanks for the replies everyone. Petrol is recent I'm afraid so shouldn't be stale, but will give some serious thought about checking the electrics. Although I'm prepared to have a go at walking the path to enlightenment (is there an ashram I can book into over Christmas!?) I'm definitely in the user of technology camp. Alternatively I might drop by the guy who looks after my car on the way to work tomorrow and pick his brains. Will update on the outcome - I'm sure it's a trouble that has been shot before! Cheers Andy
  7. Hi All Last weekend and this I've been attempting to get my Mk2 vit started. The car is garaged and dry and last ran 6 weeks or so ago all being in order. Now turns over, having fully charge the battery etc. but just doesn't catch. I assume it is electrical? The battery voltage meter on the dash isn't showing any life if that is significant? Any thoughts welcome. Andy
  8. I've just put in a set of Newton carpets and they fit OK but agree the finish is rather disappointing with the cut pile. Apparently the original loop pile Vitesse carpets were made by Wilton, however what I have now is a vast improvement on the 'front-room' carpet someone put in 20 odd years ago. Probably the cut pile works better in black too in terms of appearance, and obviously doesn't show the dirt as much.
  9. Yes someone had done that to my old gearbox tunnel that has recently fallen apart. Wonder why Triumph didn't do this straight from the factory or new boxes have them ready cut? Picture attached, I can't take any credit but just enjoy keeping it going!! Cheers, Andy
  10. Brian, Thanks for that, clear on it now. By coincidence my Vit is the spit (no pun intended) of yours! Cheers, Andy

  12. An entry level question I know but I can't work out how I'm supposed to check and top up the oil level on the gearbox/OD in my Mk2 Vitesse. From the picture in the manual it looks like access is from under the car, if so without a lift how do you reach it? Also how is the oil supposed to be poured in if it can't be reached from above. Sorry for the simple post and I'm sure it's obvious once you know but help welcome. Also what oil should be used? Thanks, Andy F
  13. It seemed the solenoid needed 'resetting' or aligning as you suggest in your earlier post Pete. All working OK now - touch wood. Thanks for the helpful responses. Until the next time TTFN.
  14. Pete, Thanks for the comprehensive reply. I'll have a look tomorrow. Andy F
  15. It's a steering column switch, but sounds like a good place to start.
