  4. Hi Glang, on the Herald you need to remove carburettor , inlet and exhaust manifolds and to unbolt the exhaust bracket on the bell housing it’s a faff lol the water return pipe can be changed without removing the ancillaries by feeding it behind the manifold.as with the Vitesse but can’t get to the core plug without removing all the above, I suspect that Steve has insoected the core plug too which explains removal of carb, manifolds , exhaust etc
  5. That’s bad luck I had the core plug behind the manifold leak on Mabel I fitted a new stainless water return pipe on her too

  7. Cleaned up one of the pistons today looks to be original and Std. Not oversize so the engine hasn’t had any machining in the past

  10. Water return pipes are available from Fitchetts they will post them to you usually £5 postage tel: Telford 01952 619585 There are two types, the 948 & 1200 are straight through but the 13/60 has an extra outiet on the side so make sure you ask for the correct one
  11. Thanks Amy that’s the conclusion we reached, suspect it caught in the rather pronounced ‘lip’ at the top of the bore on the stroke and tore a chunk off the top ring. engine recondition being sorted in next couple of weeks

  17. Engine out today and investigative surgery, end shells just started to wear but more intriguing was finding that a piston ring had broken on piston No. 3 and had erupted through the side of the piston Explains the metal deposit on the piston crown
  18. I think so - Fitchetts are dearer too
  19. I had the solex on my 12/50 rebuilt it did cost £130 and another £60 to have it tuned but worth every penny but I live in Staffordshire so it’s a long way from Kent

    Sunroof

I only know from removal and refitting the one on Mabel my 1965 12/50, about the side tensioners as far as I know they are renewed when the sunroof is refurbished or a new cover is fitted as original ones are very weak webbing type fabric, so cord ones are usually the replacement, don’t know about later ones . Don’t know about availability though but there is a company in Kings Lynn who might advise it’s MFR Classic cars 01553 844004 or 07970 785284
