    overdrive

I have an o/d box with o/d fitted but there is a noise when the throttle is "balanced".that is to say it's quiet under load and quiet on over-run but when doing neither or cruising the noise or rumble is apparent.Perhaps it would be cheaper to rebuild the box?           Ray

  10. Hi all,        I've just swapped a 3 rail 3 synchro box for a 3 rail all synchro box from a mk4 using the original clutch slave cyl from the old box .I needed to grind a flat on the side of the cylinder to make it fit .there appears to be an extra web on the new box.I bled the system OK but the clutch dragged so much I could not engage any gear with engine running I had to reduce the depth of the flange on the slave cylinder carrier in order to move the cyl a little further forward . Now I can get the gears but the pedal is right on the floor to stop crunching.I there some mis-match between boxes and slave cylinders??                                     Ray

    camshaft timing

Hi, I'm in the process of putting my mk3 spit engine back together and its time to put the camshaft back in.According to the manuals I have it all seems simple but reading online even if the scribed lines and dimples are lined up the timing may be out and there is a lot of talk of measuring valve gaps 1 and 2 whilst at tdc. I haven't put the head on yet, what method can be used to make sure cam timing is spot on with the head off. Al parts are std mk3 1968                                 Ray :X
