excellent idea for the overdrive tester i like that and not seen it before....

Ive seen it a few times in youtube and facebook.

So thats where i got the idea from.

  2. Today fitted a new waterpump on Fox.

Not so old (2021), but started to weep 2 weeks ago on my trip to the parts day.

And fitted the 88°c thermostat to my car again for the winter.

Typical.. it started to rain and got windy.

    After it.. nice weather.. 🙄

    Testdrive.. belt squeeking like mad.

Ok.. had this a bit before.

Fitted a new belt + degreased all the pullys.. noise gone.

  3. This morning testdrive of the 6.

I had put in the gearbox etc yesterday morning (what a heavy lump ! ).

    OD now works great.

But there was some oil on the floor.

    That needs investigation.

Put in my spare alternator in the 6 as his was bad now to.

  4. Monday got the 6 gearbox home to clean the swarf out.

Tuesday we took the gearbox with us, company in the netherlands fitted the rebuild overdrive on it.

Now to install it all back into the car... tomorrow

  5. Wanted to test the overdrive..

It was stuck in direct drive.

So stripped it.. and found more dirt.

Soo.. now stripped it fully and ordered some bearing and seals.

Going to clean it all up good.

  6. Currently busy on another car.

OD was slow and then stopped working years ago...

    20231025_194133.thumb.jpg.da0def7e6c74ce8bd0bf81a7107e892a.jpg20231026_104207.thumb.jpg.d777419caba8b8c66d02c0ddc2d89cf1.jpg20231026_104219.thumb.jpg.79645646a24d2a52704ce1eac80865de.jpg

Think we found the part of the problem.

OD oil pump cam worn away 😮

We now got it to a company to check/rebuild the unit.

Gearbox itself needs a good flush out to.

But.. does anyone know if the oil way in the layshaft runs all the way through the shaft on a 6 ?

There is a small plate in the bellhousing.

I would like to clean out the layshaft due to swarf...

I have a metallic rattle coming from offside rear suspension (Spit 1500). Got the back up on axle stands wheels off. First thing its done me a favour as I notice rear Flexible brake pipe is weeping. Back to the rattle. I noticed the offside inner U clamp around the rear sping is split in half so suspect this is the noise. Can you buy these clamps or do I have to make one. I'm thinking of rebuilding the spring or should I just replace. Spring is 20 years old.20231024_155245.thumb.jpg.9378b2e7342280d3a8a7442b142d9be1.jpg

That clamp is machine riveted to the leaf.

I seen the same on an old spring of mine.

  9. Not much done to Fox really.

But do need to get her ready for the winter.

Bonnet needs some more rust protection, 88 degrees thermostat fitted etc

But.. hardtop, not been on for 3 years (since the welding).

Had a look at some rust on the hardtop ...

Will patch it up for now, next summer will fix it for good.

  10. Yesterday spend the whole day on that Spitfire.

Now its back on the road.

Owner says it drives a lot better now, i did testdrive it to 🙃

The old release bearing was looking very 'blue'.

Rebuild the release arm with all new bits, full clutch kit and thermostat housing leak fixed.

But the gearbox knocks when driving into reverse.

Could not see anything wrong with the gear, so must be the syncro hub or.. laygear.

For now leaving it as is.

  11. Could not find an uprated clutch arm pin for the Spitfire.

My uncle had a broken weed cutter shaft laying about..

So some welding and my uncle turned on his Myford Super 7 and made this to fit.

  12. Yesterday had a call..

A friend from a friend broke down 100meter from his home.

cutch pedal stuck, could not pressed in at all.

    20230924_140008.thumb.jpg.150accdc3a748a19614b8425d559eea6.jpg

I arrived to have a look, first thing i looked at.. clutch release arm pin.

    It was gone !

    Interior out, tunnel out..

    Then spotted this !

    20230924_144706.thumb.jpg.4856e6297e9ea8e8a4eedaf3388a216d.jpg

Took the gearbox out and cleaned everything up.

Release arm had a hit.. but can be re-used.

The release bearing was stuck ..

    Clutch worn down a lot.

Next week it will be driving again for sure, now waiting on parts.

I wouldn't 100% trust my list, but my generic bearing number for the inner bearing in my parts notes is B-168. That might allow you to shop around for a branded replacement not part of a kit? But look the bearing specs up and check them against the measurements from your bearing before you trust that part number!

Edit: There seems to be plenty of places online stock "KOYO" B168, but can't see much in the way of alternatives.

    I had a quick look.

The failed bearing had BA168z stamped on it.

Nothing to be found quality wise.. 😞

  14. Inspected the failed bearing.

    Big bearing all ok.

    Small needle bearing...

Brand was IKO Japan, never heard of them.. 😅

Can you actually get SKF/Timken bearing for the rear ? 🤔

    20230920_154137.jpg

  15. This morning technical inspection.

    Passed without advisory's !

'Only' done 19.800kms/12.300miles in the past year.

    Then started the noise hunt...

I had a really bad bearing noise anx getting louder day by day..

Now even knocking above 20mph, but they didnt spot anything at the inspection.

Found play between the bearing housing and half shaft on the rear left..

Ok.. time to get the Makita from my uncle, my bastuck hub puller and pull the hub etc.

The grease in the housing was full of metal shaving..

But the shaft itself, very good.

    Passed the finger nail test.

Spare new bearings in another spare housing and fitted that all back to Fox.

Good piece of welding. I would have swapped out the lower wishbone but I guess they are not as common in NL? I assume it was the Curb side of the car?

I needed to this before on Spitfires.

You can get them pretty easy, but takes time that i dont have 😄
