  1. And.. late night dolly sprint fixing.

Hard to start when I left Fox at a friend.

Had a idle and could notice it running lean.

    But i was nearly home..

    Once home had a look..

    Easy fix !

    Can you spot it ?

    20230715_231133.thumb.jpg.42c265766cba24464cd885f184f9c614.jpg

Breather pipe of 45 years old came loose.

Will keep a close eye on it.. or time for a hose clamp.

  2. Some work was done.

    Slowly getting there...

But...done what I wanted to do today.. stonechip the sills etc.

    Hopefully tomorrow less windy.

Then i can spray some primer and sand again.. 😅

  3. Planning on paint for Fox !

So needed a back up car...20230710_0946123.thumb.jpg.7a13cad27ec5cd553389509cf55b1605.jpg

Oh yeah... its a Sprint with 30.000miles on it.

The Dolly was build on 12/05/1978 and was sold and lives until 2018 in Paris.

Where it stood between 1994 and 2018.

(Where the car was sold back in the day, garage is still there.

Jacques was also a racing driver innthe 30's to 50's)

    20230709_154950.thumb.jpg.b070a60b6f656bfaf301de9b3a68fcb3.jpg

Its also a test of the car now and owner said to write down if i found faults...

    Well.. there are some 😅

    -Car leans to the left

-Rear gearbox mount is falling apart

    -Voltage stabiliser is bad

    -Washer pump is dead (again)

So.. i will have some work again 😅

But.. I so like driving it !

Hi Wim. I assume they be ok for any small chassis Triumph, as basically the same rack, do you know?. In my case, a Vittese.

    Thanks, Dave

Hi Dave, they would be the same i guess.

Will have a look from what ball joint of a beetle it would fit.

I just bought all the 3 sizes they had for a regular beetle 😅

Same colour Wim. Or are you thinking of changing.

    Danny

It will be again her famous RAL 7031 !

And the inside is already that color 😅

  6. Hi all,

I'm thinking of painting Fox (spit 1500) myself.

But.. how much paint etc do I need ?

    Want to paint:

    -Inside of bonnet, doors, bootlid

    -Rear inner aches

    -bulkhead top

    -and fully outside

Oh.. and later the hardtop to.

    20230625_110421.jpg

  7. More bodywork..

And we got a big plan, but very unsure if it will work or if i will get time 😅😅

For months i had a paint reaction in the bootlid, time to fox it.

Sadly they send me the wrong filler.

Now after a week and 10 emails .. still not sorted.

    Sorting out my trim.

It seems the bottom finisher i dont gave in good shape.

One attacked by and angle grinder and the other original to fox with a dent (fox had a hit at one point).

But sunday picking up a replacement i've bought.

Testfit.. even in primer its looking sharp !

This will be annoying, bonnet body seem.

Seems to need some welding, this will be a challange ! 😅

  8. Danny, I had a search and found the pics of mine.

    Bronze valve guide fits.

    Fitted

Then 2 years later the block had a light skim, bushes still in.

Ok Wim, I see its the two water holes near the fire ring  that you sleeved.

    Danny

    Yes, those ones !

A bronze valve guide is nearly the same diameter.

Mike Banks (Sparky Spit) has done the same, actually his idea.

Where did the headgasket blow ?

I had this after 10.000kms (white smoke), then fitted 2 bronze bushes at the fire rings, to support them

That looks like the same radiator I have on mine. The new top hoses seem to be shorter than the old original ones. The new top hose lasted about 20 minutes before splitting. The gap and angle is all wrong.  I've just bought a 30mm ID hose with a 45 deg bend which looks like it will fit much better although it doesn't have the concertina in the middle.

Won't know how it fits until I get the head back on, that's another story 😁

    Danny

I've had a top hose from Bastuck germany in my stock, they seem a bit longer and more flexible then what the others sell.

So for now it works out and still no leaks😅

Oh.. still busy to fit the mk3 spec cam ?

  12. Next was something i wanted to do for a long time.

Since a few months i had a leaky rad.

    Rad weld in.. better.

Now since a few weeks a weld under the top hose started to go.

Spraying on the fan, inside of bonnet wet and front of the engine covered.

    More rad weld in...

Ordered another chineesium rad from Germany and fitted it today.

But.. they have tried to improve the fit.. but failed 😅

    At least no leaks !

Going to have a look for a better top hose, maybe an MGB hose 🤫

Or reweld top connector, if i can find someone to do it.

  13. More stuff on Fox done.

Bought some ball joint gaiters for a classic VW Beetle to test on Fox.

Helped out with a friend his Beetle last year and now had a look.. gaiters still like new.

    And... they fit !

Needed a new master and slave.

On the way to there I stopped at a place I wanted to pop by for years...

  15. This morning been to the local guy.

Fitted new steering rack gaiters, new plug leads, choke cable.

He now asked me for a few other things and jobs for next winter.

    20230527_120813~2.jpg

  16. Busy last few days.

Done some jobs on the noisy front suspension on Fox.

    20230524_174250.thumb.jpg.d005d32788b1dbc08dd62301ca58210d.jpg

And helped out a local spit.

Was running on 3.. bad plug wire !

Put an old one of Fox on.

Then we went for a testdrive...

Sadly his gearlever got stuck, could also be turned to every direction ! 😐

So walked home to get Fox and towed it home with Fox (i better took a picture of that , it was a sight !)

Then tunnel out and top of the gearbox off.

Fixed the gearlever and fixed the stuck gearbox linkage.. all in 1 afternoon....

    But... noticed no oil..

Topped it up.. wow.. it needed 1,10liter of oil.

Single rail od box takes 1,40liter.. so means nearly no oil 😐

It had been 'serviced' by a friend of his..

But.. the guy was truelly amazed I fixed it all, does now understand why my back hurts 😅

Tomorrow I need to fit new plug leads, choke cable and steering rack gaiters to his car.

And oh.. check for gearbox leaks.

  17. This morning a bit of suspension work.

Bottom arm was making noise, copper grease on the bushes fixed that.

    20230514_112503.thumb.jpg.bce5fb3f1aec96ad3e6828308666fd48.jpg

    But.. ball joint gaiters...

From the 4 ball joints, 3 had no grease in them.

I did fit poly gaiters , but now after a few months they became rock hard !

    20230514_112507.thumb.jpg.7adad386999134ce831deface70d92ff.jpg

Also noticed my upgraded anti roll bar links gaiters must be quality.. still like new after 4 or 5 years!

    20230514_114824.thumb.jpg.286245a09fd25edff94c07b7530fcfb1.jpg

Visited a friend his Beetle (last pic) that I fixed a year ago( ok.. on that I hurt my famous finger/tendon !) had a look..

All his new 'Meyle' gaiters still look like new.

The plan is to buy some for a beetle and see what fits.
