  1. Same car two drivers = different results. Diane drives our Quantum turbo on track and the temp of the water reaches 90 deg, I on the other hand get it up to 115 deg! I have fitted an oil cooler to the car I have just built (MX5 Turbo 1.6). Just fit a thermostat valve to the oil cooler lines and no matter what the oil only gets cooled if it needs it.................simples.
  2. I must add that I have found that on sidedraughts the sprint likes a little more advance try 15 deg rather than 11 however this wont stop a misfire, I presume you have tried it in the dark as sometimes sparks can be seen where they should not be.
  3. Yes indeed Chriss we would love to especially as Goodwood is where our track obsession started in 1979 with the TR register. I have a soft spot for 2.5 PI saloons and would love to find a good one to modify 8)

Thanks for trying Tom it would be great to see you again however holidays are at a premium so we wont be going but enjoy yourself and try not to rock the other TR's as you pass ;D
  5. I wanted to use the Quantum as we have at Goodwood for the last 3 CT do's. The daughter wanted to come too but they said that it was only for Triumphs and refused our booking. Strange but we were Register members from 1979 to 1985 and have owned TR4/4A and TR5. Nice if they did change their minds Tom. cheers Jon
  6. Well this was too good to miss especially as we were TR Register members when dinosaurs roamed the earth in the 70's, thanks for the heads up Tom we hope to see you there. Jon & Diane

The Toledo was their answer to the Escort 1300 or Viva, the 1500 the answer to a Cortina, the Dolomite (1850) was the answer to the smaller engined less powerful BMW 2002s or Escort Mexico whereas the Sprint matched the more powerful BMW 2002s.  There wasn't a place for a 2 door Sprint because Triumph wanted it to be a mid-executive car to compete with and to be better than the BMW and not specifically the Escort RS2000 which paradoxically it did compete with and was compared with.  So although a 2 door Sprint would have been a good idea (1500 twin carb'd version was planned as the Toledo TS) it wasn't the car that Triumph wanted.  It simply didn't fit the image. Mark Sadly BL were clueless on image even to the point of taking off the sprint badges on the nose etc ??) The market was middle managers and they LOVED badges and boasting. Ford were masters of image with cars that were just cart sprung old tech they took the market by storm.

  9. Things have changed quite a bit since 2008 and a 2 door has become sought after to create the Sprint that BL refused to make. I have a good Sprint engine and box...............now where is a 2 door.

  11. Diane and I have some friends with a variety of cars ranging from Clio 170 to Lambo Gallardo who would like to participate if thats okay (he drives the Lambo like he stole it!) 8) 8) I like Triumph people and though I am not driving a Triumph as long as you guys make us welcome you are stuck with us :)
  12. Well what a fantastic day wife Diane and I had at Goodwood on the CT track day organised by Chris Shaw. Chris still spoke to me despite me calling him Richard for some reason (senility on my part :B) The weather held fine and the most of the cars held it together too. We had a good mix and as last year I liked the little Standard 10 which was joined by a rash of very well driven Volvo's. My own Quantum RS turbo was a hoot to drive with no drama's. It now goes to sleep for the winter and will emerge in April 2014. I had to smile as Diane drove round with speeds up to 100 and wondered what her pupils would think of her as her day job is a driving instructor. Thanks again to all for making it possible.
  13. Mmmmmmmmmmm Goodwood are a bit of a shamble with this. I have received nowt but they have taken the money.
  14. I can tell its not Chris organising it. We would all have what we need if he was.
  15. You realise you are very naughty driving so fast in a car that most MG enthusiasts think is not very good! For years they have been fed on a diet that the MGB was Britains finest and the best sports car available. Now you go and blow their doors off with TRIUMPH ............!!!! I say there must be a law against it old chap ;D I have to say that when you took me round Goodwood in that 6 it reminded me of why I was called TR Stonewall by friends when I owned TR,s cos I love em.
  16. TRTOM2498 wrote:Had a great day, with fine weather last Monday. Car was a delight. Some quick V8 machinery, including an MGZS V6 ex touring car. Had a great laugh following it about, he could not lose me. Stats: MGZS 1050Kgs 200BHP. TR6: 1060Kgs (weighed as Donington whilst I was there) 193BHP on recent rolling road. Like the owner said, it was a close call. However, he was not running slicks, as they were not permitted. Here is some footage, only a short clip of me, if you fast foward circa 11mins into the video:- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PrRxtxnAUyI&feature=youtu.be After Silverstone GP circuit week before, now this, car is ready for a set of tyres. ! Cheers. Oh Tom I was disappointed because I was looking forward to seeing your TR6, but you were so fast you shot off up the track too quickly and were only visible for a short time! Great to see 8)
  17. Ah I am not in the habit of naming cars but it was nicknamed hissing Syd when we got it nearly 4 years ago because the turbo does hiss. Its quite well sorted now and has done an airfield Castle Combe and a Thruxton this year so to finish with Goodwood would be the icing on the cake :) Castle Combe could be taken in fourth all the way round cos its got so much torque. Thruxton was made very uncomfortable at 110 round church and slippery leather seats ;D so it now has Cobra race seats with harnesses so we can stay in the car!
  18. What a palaver that Goodwood site argh ??) Took half an hour to pay after answering sooo many questions. Never mind looking forward to it and our names will also go on the list. Dont tell him Pike. Diane and I will be there with our little Quantum.
  19. Brighton ;) Should be 18" but the sound testers decision is law. I have seen them shove the sensor up the pipe ??)
  20. I loved spending time with you guys and the list of my thank you's is large (hat picture soon). My wife Diane loved spending time with you guys. My daughter loved meeting you guys. My neighbour Mick enjoyed seeing you guys. My 70 + year old neighbour June is still talking about those "nice polite American boys" ;) Just a little sad note though, the Maserati that some of you saw being prepared for the Revival at Goodwood lasted about 5 laps in practice and the driver stuffed it into the barriers causing a lot of damage, however he walked away. Hope to see you all again.
  21. Spent Mon afternoon and all today with The Torpedoes and they have been absolutely brilliant, there is so much to praise them for the list would be endless. Thanks guys you all stay so calm as your Triumphs failed around you. They kindly arranged for me to have a Torpedoes tee shirt to be an honary member with my name spelt right! Mon we visited Goodwood where preparing for the Revival we met a USA team getting Phil Hills sons Maserati and a 64 Ferrari F1 race ready. Today we drove scenic route to Stonehenge and then finishing at the Crooked Billet for North Hants CT meet and met more of our friends within Club Triumph. Jon & Diane we say good luck the Torpedoes (your gonna need it!) GO TORPEDOES GO......................and come back safe.
