  1. Not aware choke has been off before as never really touched carbs since I've had it.  Any checks I can do to ensure its not on as when I pull cable it does engage the choke.
  2. Great link.. Cheers. One more question, I turned it in and then out 2 turns but still really rich. Can you just confirm that if the needle is all the way out that will mean mixture is weak or is it other way.
  3. Hi all Just trying to sort my carbs out having been running very rich for about the last 2 years. Couple of questions: The needle that comes down from the air piston one number 2 carb is slightly  at an angle. There is some rubbing to one side and it looks like it's to do with how the needle is located into its holder (tab that bends to lock it in place opposed to the other one that has a pin). Does this matter? Carbs are 150 cdse. Other question is the air piston has two holes in the bottom. Which way should these be facing? Side on, engine side or otherway. Final question. The mixture is set with one of the special tools.  As a guide how far down or up should I set the needles to then start the tuning of the mixture. If I can have a starting point I can then adjust from there.
  4. Got car mot'd today and got an advisory stating there was play in steering rack.  I only replaced this with an exchange unit from a reputable supplier as got the same advisory last year. I've put blue poly bush on the rack mountings also. There is some lateral movement through the bushes which I'm wondering if this is the cause of the play. Is there anyway I can check whether it's the rack itself moving or something else.
  5. Hi bill would the mk2 engine be a hes suffix. I'm wondering whether mine was a dealer provided one. Not sure if there is anyway of finding out given the amount of previous owners my car has had.
  6. Hi I'm running a mk3 gt6 which has a mk2 engine ( prefix KC). It also has a suffix of HES which from research indicates its a high compression (H) and (ES) meaning engine spare.  Does anyone know how and when these engines would have been used and how this particular engine would have ended up in my mk3 or could it just be one that was sourced at some point in time via one of the previous owners when original engine expired.
  7. Got the shocks from that other club and were supposed to be for the bracket version. Hmmmm
  8. Rear spring is fitted now and was a pig of a job. Raised the back end by about an inch!! . Had to swap front springs also for standards as I had quite low springs on front and there was a noticeable angle from the rear to the front.  Looks more even now with standard springs. Annoyingly though I still seem to bottom out on shocks which surprises me. Have them on softish settings but I'd have thought they wouldn't do this with new spring on. Am I missing something obvious.  Shocks are gaz and are mounted on the extension bracket and not to wheel arch.
  9. Does this look like the correct spring for gt6 mk3 roto flex? Doesn't appear to have any of those spacers I can see on canley web site. Due to be fitted tomorrow so just checking. Came from moss.
  10. Am I missing two bolts from my spring? Based on pic on previous post? Do all diffs have 6 bolts? Or are there some that have 4?
  11. Just received a replacement fuel pump from one of the usual suppliers. In the box there was instructions on fitting the spacer between the block and the pump.  Now the one I currently have on doesn't have a spacer (see pic) and needs replacing because the rubber seal at the bottom of the plunger is split.  Do I need a spacer with the bigger type fuel pump? Also the old one is much smaller than new (gt6 mk2 engine in mk3)
  12. I get same issue sometimes and its a loose connection at the fuse box (bits that clamp the fuse).
  13. Cheers bill hadn't noticed the lhs reference...
  14. Hi, should there be a spacer on top of the spring as per this pic.  I don't seem to have any..
  15. Hi Tim, mines a mk3. Are the shins for the front suspension to assist with the wheel alignment?
  16. Will try the old coil and ballast resistor set up that I had before switching to the 12v coil.  Quick question on my old set up.  I've got two white wires coming out the loom that go into either side of the ballast resistor. Is this correct or is one of the wires a ballast wire?
  17. Picked up a weird fault today.  Car starts ok then idles no problem. Then all of a sudden It just dies as if the power was cut off. It's not fuel related as it doesn't splutter but just stops dead.  Any ideas on were to start. I have just put a new Lucas 12 v coil on? If this was faulty would this just stop the engine in its tracks? Also got electronic points and new leads... I'm puzzled why it would start doing this all of a sudden..
  18. Plus a big uplift if you ain't a member.!
  19. Doesn't appear to be any spacer on the diff. Maybe a knackered spring which is causing it sit low.  Been looking at the various sellers on front springs.  Moss and canleys do lowered 330 lllb versions (at different prices ) and paddocks do standards which seem reasonable.  May opt for some standards on front unless anyone reckons they are not worth it.  As I don't know what's on front don't want spend on 330's if that's what I already have.
  20. Hmmmm so the question is do I swap out the springs with standard ones.  Have no particular desire to have anything fancy at the front end but if the front has been lowered (assume this what it does when you decrease the spring side) then am too think that something has been done to the back end. I have just put new gaz shocks on the back which are the type that come off the chassis bracket. What would the lower the back end?  Rear spring? I've also measured the height of the car and I seem to be at 46 inches opposed to 47 inches as per the book.
  21. It measures about 8 inches top to bottom and has 8 coils as per pic. Pics above are taken with the card stood as normal on its wheels.
  22. How can I confirm what springs I've got on the front? PO did all kinds of things to the car which I'm gradually fixing.  Front suspension has been rebuilt with new bushes, shocks (not expensive ones ) and the springs that were on the car.  Car came with 185's on front which have now been replaced with 165's on standard steels.  Still seems a bit crashy (technical term!) at the front so wondering if I have shorter springs or harder ones fitted than standard.
  23. I reckon with is better although get them re chromed is a tad pricey
