  1. Sorry its looks to be exactly the same as the original posters part. Purchased as it was listed as a vitesse part
  2. Hi all. Just received this part from rimmers, looked at it, did some googling and found this. So is it wrong? If so, can anyone post up a link for the correct part? Andy
  3. I also have a head that I thought went with it. Is there any way to tell between a 1200 head and a 1250 head. Is there even any differences?
  4. Oopp Yes it is, I should learn to open my eyes. 😀
  5. Hello there, I thought I had a Herald (thought to be 1200) engine block, came free with my car. However I have just looked up the block number and it doesn't seem to refer to any triumph block... according to this site anyway. [Sorry, link no longer available] Heralds seem to mostly have prefixs beginning with G and a few Ys The engine number is CD124889HE I want to know what I have before I sell it 😀 Andy
  6. Yes the head is recessed. So it was the right gasket for the head. Before the head was fitted I sent it off to be skimmed and have unleaded seats put in, so it should be flat and I think I remember either me or my father checking with a rule but I'm not to sure. I will check again tho. All correct torques were used when assembling which makes me think the gasket was to blame. Who sells the Payen gaskets? Cheers Andy
  7. Cheers for the responses! What makes you think that its the wrong gasket? I don't think I knew there was more than 1 type for a 1500. I checked the head number before overhaul and it confirmed as a 1500 head, but when ordering the gaskets I don't remember there being more than one option. Andy
  8. Hello all, At Christmas I finished my Herald 1500 conversion! I'm only 20 so it was a pretty big deal. Anyway being at uni I've only clocked up 217 miles since. I had been noticing coolant disappearing slowly but only after driving, so I checked all the coolant pipes and saw one in the heating matrix that had a little water around it. So I thought I'd solved it. However today I had a massive and sudden overheat, turns out the metal 'O' ring must have cracked shortly after installation and was the cause of the leak. Then it properly went... I'm sure you know the rest. Anyway just thought I'd post this as a warning to people, got it from Canleys. However I don't want to point the finger before I ring them (It could have been a 1 off). The head and block both look okay and before taking the head off I topped up the coolant and ran it and there were no nasty sounds. (Lucky it went 20 seconds from my drive) Cheers Andy
  9. Anyone know a good source of engine mounts? Dropped the new 1500 in (with new mounts) in October and due to studying away I have only just got it running and I noticed that they have already started to split and go bad! And the car hasn't even moved!! Anyway I got them from canleys so I was pretty surprised, the previous ones were from rimmers and they only lasted just under a year. Any better suppliers out there? Andy
  10. I know this is an old post, but I was wondering how it would fit to a 1200? Would it be an unbolt of the number place lamp unit and bolt the lucas 469 lamp in? (ignoring wiring it in) Andy

  12. Cheers for that Simon. Do 13/60 choke cables only come with the 'T' piece fitting and can it be removed? Only I would rather have the herald type knob on it. Andy
  13. Hello all, I know this is a fairly common conversion so there will hopefully be an answer out there somewhere. I'm currently just finishing the little jobs on the conversion, the choke cable being one of them. The standard herald 1200 choke is far too short to reach the spitfire carbs (twin SUs  8)). After looking at some photos online I was thinking a 130/60 choke would do the trick, but I don't want to shell out more money for it to be wrong. There is also the issue with the knob, the 13/60 has a different knob? Is there a choke cable I can get that doesn't have the knob fitted? Also I managed to make quite a good bodge on a Spitfire throttle cable, however it took a while. For future reference is there also one more suited for this? Cheers Andy
  14. So I have HS4! Good. However are they 2 different 'generations'? And can they be used together?
  15. JohnD wrote:You show two pics of tabs that read "AUD 624" plus F.  Are they from the same carb? Because two should be marked "F" and "R", for the front & rear of the pair. JOhn Sorry that's two of the same picture  :P
  16. Hello I'm currently rebuilding a 1500 spitfire engine. I think these are HS4 but they have 2 different ID tags on them. The SU website says one is HS4 and the other HS2, but rimmers says differently! But they look the same, and a few part numbers are the same. I'm not a spitty man I've got a Herald. Help!!!  :o Carb 1. Tagged 'AUD624F' Carb 2. Tagged 'FZX1258R'
  17. So I just found the large UJ flange for the spit 1500 http://www.canleyclassics.com/searchforapart/?ptno=37H4973 Will I be able to use these with my existing halfshafts?
  18. Nick_Jones wrote:  You do know it'll mean changing UJ flanges don't you? (as would a 3.89) Nick I'm fitting my 1200 out with a spit 1500, j-type overdrive and spit diff. Will I need different drive shafts? How do I adapt the flanges? Spell it out for me.  :P
  19. Thanks, I will have to do a bit more digging. I like the slots and the idea of keeping the hub cap. i also found this on the forum, so I'm sure its possible.
  20. Sorry I meant a Toledo... I think http://www.balloon-fish.co.uk/?attachment_id=818 Would they not be the same profile as dolly sprint wheels?
  21. What happened to this? Does anyone have a tried and tested way of doing this? I want to put 1300 steels on my herald and don't want to buy them without knowing.
  22. Found this. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261489381067?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I don't want a 15", I want to properly downsize from a herald. However could be a Astrali wheels then? Andy

  24. Hello all I just missed out on an ebay listing for a "SPITFIRE TRIUMPH STEERING WHEEL 13INS". Very angy with myself as I really wanted it for the herald. Anyway has anyone got any ideas of what it is? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SPITFIRE-TRIUMPH-STEERING-WHEEL-13INS-NICE-CONDITION-/111361189062?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEWAX%3AIT&_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=2LG0%252F229kVk%252BuHocqI1wfOPWBZY%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc Is it a spitfire wheel without the funny squidgy doughnut thingy and a different boss? If not what make could it be? I much prefer the smaller hornpush area (like the herald's wheel) rather than the motolita. I'm my opinion they look kind of fat... sorry  :P Andy
