  1. I'm not sure what brake fluid has in it these days but in the 1970s when many Triumph cars were on the road the main ingedient was sunflower oil. During my appenticeship with Lockheed brakes I recall being told that the biggest difference between brake fluid and margarine was the water content.
  2. A veritable feast of Triumphs for sale by auction at Mathewsons on 21st and 22nd October. Makes me wonder if someone's collection is up for sale? Almost worth me driving up from the south to take a look. https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-44---1960-triumph-tr3/?lot=8341 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-54---1980-triumph-tr7/?lot=8345 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-83---1956-triumph-tr3-convertible/?lot=8719 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-95---1965-triumph-tr4a/?lot=8349 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-118---1972-triumph-stag/?lot=8501 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-169---1967-triumph-herald-1200/?lot=8506 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-233---1956-triumph-tr2/?lot=8659 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-272---1968-triumph-vitesse/?lot=8590 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-473---1971-triumph-herald-1360/?lot=8797 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-484---1996-triumph-tr4/?lot=8805 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-545---1967-triumph-2000/?lot=8892 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-562---1977-triumph-stag/?lot=8895 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-602---1975-triumph-stag/?lot=8922 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-606---1966-triumph-herald-1250/?lot=8926 And a couple of bikes in case anyone interested: https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-533---1958-triumph-350/?lot=8872 https://www.mathewsons.co.uk/auction/lot/lot-621---1961-triumph-trophy/?lot=8963
  3. I'm thinking, the cost of bringing it all the way from the Med to the UK is possibly more than the car is worth, but it has been listed for nearly three months so if it were me I'd ask if the seller has a way of getting to you in the UK and maybe explain nicely that that could cost too much - and ask what he/she would take for it. I don't know if there are issues to be dealt with importing a car from Europe since Brexit - others may know... From personal experience, don't rely on recovering some cost by selling what you don't need - it's not worth your time!
  4. Hi Ray, the answer is, I don't think so! I bought my Herald in a fairly dismantled state and I actually don't know what "scuttle and dash mill boards" are. Googling took me to https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-GRID005799 but I don't recognise the parts or where they go - I've sold or gifted the complete bodywork in three parts already - I do have the dashboard which I won't be using, in fact I think I have two if anyone is interested. Sorry, I don't think I can help.
  5. Interesting. I know they abandoned the V5 listing of previous owners due to privacy laws - does it actually list the name or just the date of change of ownership? I guess, if you have a name (or can remember it) that's a start. I've been successful tracking people down using Google and LinkedIn - other social media sites are helpful so I'm told... Good luck with your search, since it's SORNed, maybe the present owner has lost interest.
  6. Still have these bits as AA thought they were a bit far gone - I'm not surprised, they are a bit wasted! But I'm finding that one man's scrap is another man's saviour, so as I have photos, here are they are! The sealed beam units are useless, but the cups they sit in are fine, they just look messy. For the side/indicator lights the glass and chrome trims are fine, the rubber gaskets are useless but available at https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/143089148413 The sidelight internals are a mess, but I'd rescue them if I needed them. Anyone interested in some or all of this?
  7. I've never tried but https://www.carcheck.co.uk/triumph/972NHW appear to have more information than the gov.uk site if you pay the premium?
  8. Getting back to the subject of this post, I have read somewhere (on the internet!) about someone restoring a Herald including cutting the fuel tank in two, cleaning it out and then welding a strip of steel to make it wider, just not too wide to prevent access to the spare wheel! Maybe someone else has seen this and can provide a link? For my project, I may need to use my Herald fuel tank but I'm also considering using an MX5 tank that I have as an alternative. Adrian B, if you are not in too much of a hurry perhaps hold fire on your tank for a while. For starting and running the engine a used oil can works as a fuel tank 👍
  9. No, not yet. Someone was interested but can't collect until the end of August so I put it on Ebay and someone has bid £1.00 so I have to let this run for another five days. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265826703632
  10. Do you mean this? From a 1969 Herald 13/60 Convertible
  11. Thanks Amy, good point, worth adding the photos to that thread - I'm now already exchanging PMs with someone who has expressed interest so I'll do as you suggest if that discussion doesn't reach the desired conclusion 👍
  12. Hi Alan, I think I have to wait until the Ebay auction ends although since nobody has bid I'll look if it's possible to stop it. I'll then dismantle and see what the bits look like. I'm not sure what to ask - it's more about the time to dismantle and pack, but I'm happy discuss a fair price - really need to see the condition and look for similar for sale so I can make sure I'm not being greedy. KR Adrian
  13. Thanks Nick, you are right, the worst bits are the wheel arches. Otherwise only the boot floor has needed welding, as shown in the pictures. Also have the rear bench seat and surround in light gray and a proper (not vinyl) hood and slightly broken frame
  14. If you are thinking of converting a saloon to a convertible this may be of interest? I need the space so if nobody is interested this will be left outside to be collected for scrap. I've tried to photograph all the places where it's been welded - soundly done (not by me, by the previous owner who is a professional welder) - the rear wheel arches don't look pretty but gentle smoothing with an angle grinder and some knifing putty should do the trick. I've tried to take photos of the worst bits - can take more if requested. Collection from TW20 postcode. You are welcome to view any time. Please ignore the tools etc., they are not included!
  15. Any good to you? Whole bonnet on Ebay again for a week on Ebay, starting price £10 but nobody bid yet. Could break for the bits you want and send by post if you are too far from TW20 postcode
  16. Quick update. I still have all of the above. Bonnet was on Ebay for a week, starting price £10 but nobody bid so it was re-listed. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265813657491 So I'm having a bit of a "fire sale" - if you can collect you may persuade me to let stuff go for nothing. I am literally close to leaving the tub outside for the local scrappie as I need the space - such a waste, especially if anyone is looking at converting a saloon to a convertible.
  17. I would find it incredibly helpful if there was a forum category devoted to supplier feedback. I've stumbled across posts which recommend suppliers of parts which has been really helpful to me, but a list of recommended suppliers and member feedback on purchases good and bad would be so nice. So far, my experience generally is that the self proclaimed specialists are often found wanting whilst cheaper parts on Ebay have served me well as the sellers depend on good customer feedback - instead of a fancy web site. Finally, how about some negotiation with "the usual suspects" to get a club member discount?
  18. From my experience, and others, don't. See Trustpilot
  19. Sorry, that's the second time I've got it wrong - it's a rag top, not a saloon...
  20. I expect you will have seen https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/185514425254?hash=item2b31857ba6:g:bbsAAOSw52li3~H2 Classified Ad, looks good to me and the mention of a "slight issue with the carburetor" seems an honest point and can probably be easily sorted - location Durham
  21. Oops, sorry. Presumably not so many were made...
  22. Spotted https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/204001894187 Classified advert - £2,490. Pictures look good to me. I didn't know they did an automatic, but probably easy enough to change to a manual box.
  23. Oh dear, this mirrors my experience buying an alternator kit from rimmer bros. To call them cowboys would be an insult to cowboys who do an amazing job of rounding up and directing herds of cattle in all weathers. In short, RB are just box shifters, they know very little about what they are selling and obviously don't check the bits go together and they really don't care! Emails to sales and customer service simply don't get replies and if you finally get through to a web chat they can't help and suggest sending an email... May I suggest https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/360609334503 because they have 100% positive feedback and the kits for one side at £5.60 plus £2.10 postage seems reasonable. And I like the fact that they include the small rubber seal between the castings. In fact, I'd suggest buying kits for both sides - I doubt RB will refund but given their offering has visually obvious defects you don't know where else their supplier cut corners. Doesn't matter what they cost, dangerous brakes can cost lives. I've bought quite a few parts online for my wreck of a Herald and have found that the so called specialists are not as good as they claim and the benefit of Ebay is that suppliers care about feedback. Check out RB on Trustpilot if you don't believe me.
  24. I'm hiring a van some time in the next two weeks to pick up the GRP bodyshell for my project from Hinkley LE10 1PJ. Starting from my shed in Egham TW20 8RG. I'm looking to sell/gift the following and could maybe deliver if you are not too far from my route. Rear Tub - some good welding was done by the previous owner, it would tidy up nicely Hood and Frame - already listed here, not much luck finding a buyer so far, so flexible on price. Driver's door with quarterlight and internals missing - not pretty Passenger door - complete but not pretty either - prefer to let them both go rather than leave for the scrap man Bonnet with lights - not bad on the outside, needs welding at the front inside. Rear light assemblies - actually not bad Boot lid - also quite good (as far as I can recall) All of the above could go on Ebay but that takes time and if members here are interested I'd prefer to keep it in the family. I can take photos if anyone is interested. Perhaps DM me with your postcode and item(s) of interest? I certainly won't have room for the GRP bodyshell and the larger items so for the Tub and Bonnet for example, I could deliver on the way but not on the way back, and I'd need to be sure they are sold if I take them with me!
  25. Yes, still available. I've been asking £150 as I know I'd be delighted to pay that if I had no frame or hood. Maybe I'm asking too much, but it'll probably do okay on ebay once I clean it up. TW20 postcode if anyone interested to take a look.
