  1. I use a Monit tripmeter as I do quite a few scenic tours which use Tulip diagrams for the route. It was also used as a backup on the RBRR as it is very accurate with the mileage and so could be used with the roadbook supplied. You can also get a "recce car" pack with the Monit which includes a windscreen mount, remote reset button, and GPS receiver, (saves having to calibrate the trip meter which you have to do with a wheel sensor, and you don't very often go through a tunnel long enough to worry about the GPS signal). It also can act as a speedo and has various other useful functions, and works in all light situations - you sometimes can't read the Terratrip in bright sunlight.
  2. Worth checking the routing of the fuel lines to check that they are not getting too hot and causing vapourisation when you stop.
  3. Team Arnie (car 137) had the weld on the bonnet hinge break after about 20miles from the start. A steady drive up to Wetherby and tank tape held it down (I had checked the hinge nuts before the event - all tight but hadn't checked the 40+yr old welds!). Had to redo the tape several times due to wet getting under the tape. Needed - Tank (gaffer) tape. Also tail light at Gledrid Needed - spare bulb
  4. We took the A82 down past Loch Ness (no fallen tree - we took the opinion that a tree doesn't take long to cut up) and then we were going to take the A85. Just after getting onto the A85 some nice young people told us that the road was flooded to knee height and the TR7 V8 wouldn't get through. We therefore went back onto the A82 past Loch Lomond and then set the satnav for Gartcosh to get us across Glasgow - worked a treat.
  5. Team Arnie (car 137) managed 26.25mpg for the whole run. 327.57 litres at a cost of £572.60. We had a GPS Tripmeter which showed 1892 miles. Not bad for a 3.9l V8 and more than I would normally get (23.81mpg). Worth every penny for a superb event.
  6. A big thank you also from car 137 - we were newbies to the event but the support from Tim was brilliant from the start. The event was superb and the car ran faultlessy (except for a weld on the bonnet hinge breaking about 20miles from the start but tank tape sorted that at Wetherby). Didn't even lift the bonnet because of the tank tape. Thank you to all the organising team and all the marshals at the controls, you all did a fantastic job. Can't wait until 2025.
  7. Thanks for all the advice - doing the event for the first time and all tips are really helpful as it is the small things that you don't think about can make all the difference. Any more tips will be gratefully taken on board. Thanks all
  8. Howard this looks like a very useful routing map but even this produces oddities - when I put it up using your routing the route stop 21 - 20a Cheadle - shows a way point on its own that you go to from and then return to Kingsley Holt. The route is then different to the C2C 2023 until Longton. However it looks like a much easier system to use to plan your route.
  9. Could you please add Lucy Bridgman to the whatsapp group - co-driver for entry no.137 Team Arnie. Her mobile number is on the entry form. Sorry but being a Ludite I don't have a phone that can use whatsapp (that's why I have a TR7!!).
  10. Hi Tim May be able to do Monmouth - can you give me any details of times etc Thanks Jos
  11. I must add my own big thank you to Chris, Howard, Dale, Darren, Clive Snr and Craig for organising the C2C. It was my first time doing the event and it exceeded my expectations. The start and finish venues were great, the route was fantastic with great roads (they took me back to my days of road rallying in the seventies - proper lanes at night that were for driving) and beautiful scenery when it was light. The navigation was spot on and easy to follow. I don't dare work out my mpg - I think the Holley carbs just let the fuel run straight from the fuel pump into the cylinders!! Again thank you and hope that you run it next year - I will definitely do it.
  12. Sorry John, I did ask but my brain is like a sieve but I think they said 06.00. There is also a Murco petrol station/conveniece store in Fishguard actually on the route just as you leave Fishguard which may open early. I didn't look much further after I found that Tesco Cardigan, which is about 20miles before Fishguard, was open 24hrs.
  13. I have just been down to Pembrokeshire on holiday. The Esso garage in Fishguard is not 24hrs although the website shows that it is (I called in to ask). However Tesco Cardigan is 24hours (pay by card only) and also has E5. When you get to the roundabout in Cardigan on the A484, instead of turning left onto the A487 turn right onto the A487, 0.5miles turn left at traffic lights then after 150yds turn left into Tesco.
  14. Thanks for all your help, see you at the start🙂
