  1. ...and they left the front bumper on for the respray and didn't bother removing the corner valances to spray them properly off the car. It was a shocking waste of a perfectly good donor chassis.
  2. okay, I'll bite... Sometime sooner or later, I say this to most of my clients: I build bookcases, not write books. You can have everything neatly organised and in its place for easy future reference, or you can leave it all lying on the floor in a total mess. The website should be core of the club's online activities, with social media acting in partnership sharing and directing users back to the website. Everyone has access to the website and people pick and choose their social media channels of choice. If members, group organisers, event organisers or even committee members would like help with the website, I am happy to assist - but please be aware we are a club run by a committee and most ideas and suggestions would have to be run past them first.

  4. I think this is a time and effort versus reward issue. 20 years ago we were creating bespoke solutions to solve very specific requirements. Today, WhatsApp does 99.9% of everything we need; to be able to run an event diary with photo updates, map locations, live location updates, organiser-only push notification news feeds, etc etc. My only issue with WhatsApp is GDPR and sharing contact phone numbers with people I don't even know.
  5. I get more sense of achievement doing things myself than getting someone to do things for me. Each to their own. Make the event your event and enjoy it.
  6. I think you missed my point. Why you would choose to sub contract your route choice to a sat nav file created by someone else? The event is a mix of preparation of both man and machine, and your ability to complete the event is testament to your achievement. Your preparation might be to spend an hour or so marking your route in an atlas with a highlight pen, or it might be to research the route online and construct a series of waypoints to program your sat nav. But to hand over all that preparation to someone else, somewhat diminishes your achievement.
  7. For an event that started over 50 years ago, as a test of man, machine and map reading, I'm not really sure I understand the appeal of such extensive use of sat nav. Sure, have a sat nav as backup in case your map reading skills are really that bad, or for the stages where your co-driver might be asleep and can't navigate for you, I get that. But to download a sat nav data file someone else has created, because you can't even program a few waypoints into a sat nav yourself - I really don't understand.

  12. The windscreen fitter said this was the best he could do with the joining strips. These are Spitfire 1500 joining strips, part number ZXC2099. They won't be staying like that.
  13. Herald Coupé rear screen trim: Not the most brilliant of fits, and it may need some gentle persuasion in the future, but it is in.
  14. Anyone know how to check or recalibrate a torque wrench? I have a second hand Draper 3001A, but I want to be certain it is accurate. Any ideas? Cheers Craig
  15. Rocker shaft is pretty shot though. Not sure if it's salvageable.
  16. It's more of a sea anchor. It's the original engine from Callum's coupe, but the previous owner stored the engine outside for about five years under what they thought was a waterproof tarp.
  17. Crank turns okay. Not much end float, and the bores seem okay.
  18. Managed to get the head off. I don't think it's that bad?
  19. Finally managed to freely turn the engine. There is something amiss on valves 7 or 8.
  20. To save cutting the original trim, I would consider replacing the original rear quarter trim panels with new ones that come with the slot for the belt to go down to the wheel arch.
