  1. Hi All

I have just purchased a dismantled GT6 off a chap on Ebay who is located in Chilcompton near Bath. I live in Cheshire but am attending the CT Dinner next month in Hemel Hempstead. We are also visiting my wife's parents in Gloucester later this month. So I am wondering if the CT Pony Express can help me in moving the diff from Chilcompton to either the CT Dinner or Gloucester?

    FIngers crossed

Compare the price of the solid part to the cost of having a rusty one professionally repaired….. or even repair panels and your own time at a modest hourly rate……

Here is a photo I took at Jedburgh on the RBRR which shows your new purchase next to my Stag whilst both were refueling with "go go juice".

Does seem worthwhile, nice to have the windscren operation on the column. But the cost of a decent steering wheel is a major factor for not doing the job.

I had our original steering wheel recovered in leather by a local man who works at Bentley. He did a lovely job, hence my desire to retain that wheel.

He also fitted a new headlining into the car whilst I was doing the restoration in 2013 and be recently lowered the foams in the bases of the MX5 seats I purchased.

I would imagine ...not for a while yet..........and then when we know that , the accommodation will be down to the entrants.

Which is why I was asking for the route, so I can book ferries and accommodation.

It's a daft interior light. It's of little use if you are sitting in the car, ok so it lights up the ignition switch but when you get in you have to fumble to insert the key. Why put the switch down by your calves???

So, I got fed up with this and the lack of sensible wiper/washer stalks so fitted a late Spitfire column. Ahh, bliss...ignition switch up where it should be and decent stalks. One of the best modifications I've ever done (actually my mate John did most of it).

    Hi Don

I am interested in your steering column conversion. Could you advise on whether a GT6 mark 3 steering wheel will fit a late Spitfire steering column?

    Thanks

    Hi Bruce,

I have driven my GT6 with J type overdrive and 3.63:1 differential for over 30 years and found it to be the ideal gearing for the car, decent enough engine speed at motorway speeds and nippy enough when pulling away. My GT6 is a non overdrive model and therefore had a 3.27:1 ratio diff, awful gearing for getting away quickly, much better now with the o'd and 3.63.

    Hi Tim

Thanks for the advice. Looks like I will on the look out for a good condition 3.63.

    Regards

Hi both my gt6s Inc current mk1 have run this combination,  OK it may not be fastest off the mark, but is v relaxed motorway cruising  and the 2l lump is v capable of pulling this. I  easily keep up with tr6,s and it s as fast as my pi.  Ratio is  25 mph per 1000 rpm in od and 20mph per 1000 in top.  I'm sure thus would have been a more standard fit if more motorways were around and Stanley markland wasn't, hiding in the wings with his pull from 10mph in top gear without hesitation bull!

    Hi Doc

Just to clarify, you have a 3.63 or a 3.27 diff fitted?

    Regards
