  1. Gday trolleybus attached is a photo of the  thermostat housing on my MG Midget 1500 motor (triumph spitfire derived) A quick glance at my 2500S indicates that it MAY be possible to graft one of these on to your motor, maybe, perhaps etc. Otherwise its out with the TIG welder and graft an aluminium threaded boss on to the existing thermostat housing. The MG cap is plastic BTW. HTH Cheers Rod
  2. Gday Radders I bought a cheap ($40 delivered  would you believe)  14" fan here in OZ. its rated at 80 watts and the fan blades are easily reversible. It works really well and can be mounted using cable ties thru the rad. If you trust this method it sits the fan against the rad core with some rubber spacers to prevent chafing. Mine is mounted in FRONT of the rad with brackets, because I found that there was very little clearance even after machining down the old fan mount a bit to make more room (See pic). To do this you need to remove the rad. You may find a handy place to fit the sensor around the thermostat housing, otherwise solder a brass threaded boss to the radiator (see pic) . If you wire this in to a permanent i.e. not via the ignition switch supply, the fan will run on after the engine is switched off, sometimes not a bad thing to deal with heat soak, especially here in OZ. You must use a relay of course, the ones with the built in fuse are good. Any oriental website will have one listed and sensors. If you buy it from your local supplier it will be 3 times the price, probably of better quality and comes with a guarantee, however my cheap one works well. I run an 85 degree sensor. Cheers Rod

    Bonnet stay

this is how I fixed it, somewhat agricultural but effective Cheers Rod
  4. A lot of the sludge is the result of the extreme pressure additives in the oil doing their job, but the rust is awful.

    Carb kits

Hi Dave how much play is in the butterfly shafts? If this is excessive they will need rebushing. Check you have the correct float bowls front and rear they are different heights, also check the needles and seats (new ones are problematic sometimes they don't seal well) Check the pistons are not excessively worn ( you tube has a video for a drop test) they should drop at the same rate and not too quickly. You may also have worn dashpots (the oil leaks out) allowing the pistons to rise too fast. HTH Cheers Rod
  6. Gday James all advice above is good. If you have some tools and bits and pieces you may be able to shim some of the looseness out of the gearbox mechanism but otherwise buy a new one. Cheers Rod
  7. that's the spirit mate learn a little bit everyday Cheers Rod
  8. Gday Col try this http://www.sumidel.com/ in Lakemba NSW I'm still somewhat confused, my book (see scanned page) shows that the jet housing seems to be sealed. Can you confirm that you are able to "get at" the workings? IMHO a jet conversion still won't cure your adjustment issue despite what Burlin said. Hopefully I'm wrong. If/When you contact Midel attach a copy of my pic (if possible) HTH Cheers Rod
  9. Hi Col does this fit your tamper proof carbs?
  10. Hi Phil LOL I thought we were talking about SU's, the seals should work a treat. Cheers Rod
  11. Yes conversions for HS6's are available but this won't cure the lack of adjustment issue. Believe me the fastest, cheapest fix is to find a decent second hand set of carbies (adjustable of course) I don't think you can get new carbies. Call Burlen their advice is free and they know what they're talking about. Cheers Rod
  12. Gday Phil what is your plan for EFI?? two throttle bodies etc or fabricate/source single point inlet manifold Cheer Rod
  13. Ok the book says that "some OZ models were fitted with tamper proof carbies" etc. Looks like you lucked out Col. I think a set of adjustable HS6's appeared on Ebay a while back about $150 but postage could be a bit. Bits and pieces are being advertised all the time keep a look out. Another point is that the "capstat" jets AKA "waxstats" can and do seize up in the fully rich position which probably explains your mixture problems. These are readily obtainable from the usual suspects. HTH Cheers Rod
  14. Yep looks all too familiar. Fitting new spindles will help but you should have them re-bushed as well. Yes I know this costs but tuning the car will be much simpler and who knows you may even get it to idle correctly. Cheers
  15. Yep RWB brand Made from some scrap clip on boot rubber strip with some 4mm rubber fuel tube inside the hollow tube to reinforce it, works a treat for nothing Cheers Rod
