I’ve heard about your "Hands on" ....are you still wearing the tag? I think the key points are that Newbie’s should be encouraged to go to a local meeting prior to the DM to get the "crack" from someone who has done it before- if they can’t make a meeting for whatever reason ...get in touch with some "grumpy old gits up North via email/phone" to get the crack.. or click on a box somewhere on the site that says "newbie’s information" that way they don’t have to embarrass them self asking school boy questions or trying to translate "grumpy Northern" dialect -

Martin has a very very good point newbie’s go to their local meeting a couple of months before the event and take /ask advice from some of the “old RBR hands†who have arranged to be at the local meeting Taking it a step further – Maybe some of the “old hands†could list their contact detail in the RBR members only bit of the forum and a preferred way of being contacted ? A “newbie’s checklist†could be made available to take away at local meets prior to the event? Just thoughts… -

Ref food - its not a good idea to eat big meals on the route-best off eating little and often, fruit, bit of chocolate etc it keeps the energy levels up and prevents "Tracey island incidents" Having Celoiac disease I cant partake in in "Forecourt meat based savory product gourmet" thus tend to provide for my self- eggs beans and bacon are fine at the breakfast halts- hence why I was giving my sausage away ...feel free to add a pun there To be honest I wouldn't think to tell anyone at the drivers meet what to do about food -its common sense isn't it? your going to be in a car for 48 hrs two breakfasts are provided...throw a bag of ready salted in the glove box eat when peckish job done :) -

The trick with sat navs is to put your own POIs in along the route and go from POI to POI - and get it to demo the route before setting off -well just demo the bits where you want it to take the arse end of no-where road instead of the fastest etc -must admit I have only used them on the last two RBRs Ive done and they are useful for looking at the road ahead, used one on the Alpine tour this year worked very well -

How about a marquee in field near by and a 07.00 hog roast?...it would also allow the Dolomite crews to cook up their road kill

Apparently we had been forgotten about as they had a "wedding do" the same day - 2012 was ok there "in, brekkie, sign book out " we were early -but no earlier than this year so don’t understand why they could have opened up and let people have a dump then wait in the warm for brekkie? The lady said they couldn’t open the traps until the maintenance staff were on site at 08.00 she was lucky not have a Tracey island incident in the foyer I take it the staff have to restrain from pre 08.00 bowel movements due to no maintenance staff being on site

Note to self- after suffering "post road trip blues" following septembers 3 day Euro 2.3k miles in the plastic pig- the remedy is not to do 2,000 miles non-stop in a Triumph round Britain just a couple of weeks later ...I now have to find next months fix before I go cold Turkey

If you added mine and Mikes BMI I think we were actually a four man team ...plus the sheep in the boot

Congrats and thanks to all - we made it back to the Plough - nursing a badly misfiring car No21 from Pimperene - we rebuilt a spare dizzy at the finish so Mike could drive home - hopefully he made it the car looked to be going well when we parted company on the M25 -got back to Somerset 2am .. Great run one of the best many thanks to Mike and all at CT ......ps I'm looking at a "barn find" sprint this week .....could spell trouble!

Jim, Not that I have any intention to drive any sort of car anywhere near the alps, and wouldn’t want this forum to be implied in any similar activity- where do you get all your useful info? (Apart from the web cam) on when alpine roads are open and closed and data from previous years? -that may or may not be useful in planning or not planning a theoretical trip in a randomly chosen month say such as... September? Thanks in advance for any response
