  1. Just flicking through ebay...like you do read out the corner of my eye "supercharged stag" ..now I remember seeing one about 20 years ago when I lived in Cumbria....it was coming down the hill towards the then "new" blackbeck roundabout ...GT6M knows where I mean! ..I remember thinking it looked daft ....anyway looks like e its been found an now for sale http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3713.....&sd=301640245798
  2. Martin Its not as bad as it looks..honest Couple of hours each side Drive shaft off Undo bottom damper nut Dissconnect brakes-you have to repalce your slave cylinders anyway! Remove two bolts/nuts at pivot end of trailing arm..remove trailing arm Push the old bushes out using vice/socket combo...or set fire to them depending on mood Push new ones in using socket/vice combo..after putting fire out if used Re-assemble sorted 🙂
  3. Looking to gather as many RBRR stories, anecdotes, urban myths from the last 50 years ..feel free to post them on this thread ...anything welcome ...including such classics  as crew members eating cardboard packaging of their "forecourt gourmet meat based savoury product" without realising .....
  4. I was going to do the 2013 event but pulled the plug when it was made clear that not sticking to the route and doing your own thing was not helpful...I take it that view has changed?

    1850 cam?

I never had  any issue with the LT77 in the  various SD1s I’ve owned and it seemed fine in the TR7 I had very briefly ..the reason why I was asking was to cobble together a shed for the 2016 RBR ..if the "ongoing" blagging to rescue a sprint doesn’t come off I was looking at a 1850 that needs a new engine...and shoving in a 2.0l tr7 lump and box I know of ..

    1850 cam?

I have another stupid question..why dont you see more dollys with the TR7 5 speed box fitted?

    1850 cam?

School boy question...Does fitting a TR7 cam to an 1850 work in terms of improving the performance of an 1850? or are the cams the same? Cheers
  8. Added some preparation tips page  to the blog http://ctrbrr.blogspot.co.uk/p/preperation-some-notes-and-ideas.html Might be useful for 10CRers as well
  9. Think ive got one..do you still need one?
  10. Are you running SUs or Stromies? SUs - next time you fire it up and its warm check the jets are fully pushed home with the choke cable in..if the cars not been in regular use? the jets/linkage can stick a bit for the first few hundred miles or so (along with loads of other stuff that will play up... then fix its self so keep persevering!) Anyway I'm not offering any help on fuel issues until you bin the Chinese points and condenser!   :) :) Throw an Acu spark in or similar in and go through all the obvious HT /LT, timing stuff  - then worry about fuel if it still misfires The fan will kick in if it has been ticking over stop starting etc so don't even worry about that at the moment Ignore the heater/overdrive issues - just get it running sweet first then worry about the nice to have working stuff!  :)
  11. Oh dear... You can tin bash a new knob out of some thin sheet ally and put a 30 amp toggle switch in! - its what I did! The heater - I am sure some softly softly catchy monkey shed engineering will get the valve rotated to hot..and just leav it there! and just use the flap to stop your feet melting The missfire - bin the bloody pionts then work off the theroy of- if it feels like fuel its an electrical fault, and if it feels like an electrical fault its fuel... So how much would you sell it for !? :)
  12. heater thread drift for Martin ...and cause its cold...who used their classic today? I did.... anyway this is why 2000 heaters appear not to work the valve ceases up enough for the linkage to slip...you can get away with getting your hand in on the valve and turning it sometimes....mike covered it ages ago in his blog..http://standardtriumphcars.blogspot.co.uk/2010/05/how-many-parts-are-in-2000-heater.html
  13. ...we could drift onto why his heater isn't working? :)
  14. Martin complete thread drift- your O/D switch to get it to fit you need to trim a bit off the back of the crimps (miniture females I think from memory) I cut the crimps insulation right down and soldered the wires onto them, then used a little bit of heat shrink, and it should sit down correctly ...make sure your knob (ooeer) is adjusted to give optimum clearance between the end of the lever and the back of the switch if you see what I mean.....as for the oil leak... well they are meant to do that?!! I bet the clutch works fine now....but tend to agree those kits are not great but once working stay working...copper pipe will do the job with a pigs tail or two!
  15. RBRR blog updated ...click this link for best results... http://ctrbrr.blogspot.co.uk/
  16. I was always taught cherry red  dip in cold water..even cold water with a bit of oil in
  17. I agree with the above- I fitted one on my 2000 it required a washer as the fitting supplied "bottomed out" before sealing if you see what I mean - so use a decent washer and dont forget to anneal it .......it could also be arse about tit as Alec says
  18. Some pictures added to the blog, will update to include them all over the next week or so click here  for blog http://ctrbrr.blogspot.co.uk/
  19. Fair piont! ref finishing a week later! I also think some good old common sense should be applied as to who  gets accredited with a finish (if they have missed a control)-Tim and his team have plenty of common sense and that decision should be left to them!
  20. ferny wrote:The RBRR is a driving event. To complete an event you have to match certain criteria. To me this means going to all controls in good time. When I found out others had received a finishers award when cutting out control points it removed a large chunk of its meaning or worth. I find the event a lot harder than some (going by responses by others) and it was a nice pat on the back for doing it properly yet others have been presented with the same reward for doing less? Nah, give them a "you've been a brave boy" dentist sticker for entering instead. I do strongly feel there should be some way of allowing the people who are really struggling to make control points within the window some reward for getting to them. Be it a photo of the location or some other means to work as proof. A signing book or CT sticker left there wouldn't work as who would collect it afterwards and leaving debris at control points is bad practise. Working against problems and fighting against the shit thrown at you is part of the event and even the best prepared cars can fail. Things break, things fall apart, shit happens. Anyone who has managed to carry on deserves to be rewarded. Your good working alternator has failed so you fit a brand new one, which shortly fails, another team comes to your rescue by donating their spare so you're safe and don't have bits fall off in the cold. You're now both behind time but come up to another car who has had the misfortune of finding every lost screw on the run and is on their second puncture but no spare. The crew with the dodgy alternator was carrying two so give it to the stranded crew and now they're rolling as a three but well behind time and have just gone full pelt into the back of an traffic jam caused by an accident most crews have missed as it happened after they went through the area. All three cars arrive at the next control over an hour late which is good going really yet now they're not going to have any means to "finish" the event. That's not fair and in all honesty they all deserve the reward more than the bloke flying around at 95mph and getting everywhere first. Oh, and the M40 is shit. It always will be, except when it's not. And the surrounding roads are always better to use, except when they're not. I don't really understand the complaint? Or maybe I've spent far too long driving around that area to know how unpredictable it can all be. When those alternative roads get jammed you're buggard more than you would be on a stationary M40. Agree with above - but I don’t mind if someone gets the same "finishers token" as me even if they haven’t visited all the stops - In my head I know what I’ve achieved, one year (2006) I made it a personal mission to stop as often as possible to help people- I felt good about it and that’s all that mattered to me -although I did run a deer over diverting to my house to pick up a rear damper for a stag...how ironic! The important thing is -like Jim says -is. dont put the MSA Permit at risk The other point being the guy driving at 95mph everywhere also needs to be told  he will still  get a "finish" without risking a head on every five minutes -so needs to stop thinking words like "first" at control etc whilst driving...

  22. Its a tricky one! the last thing we want to happen is it to be deemed "competitive" in anyway - a lawyer would argue that not getting a dodgy tankard at the end because you visited one less control makes it competitive? Whereas "Challenge" has a different legal ring or even "personal challenge" so in my head I don't worry a toss about the tankard my personal challenge is to make every control .....get my drift!
  23. mikew wrote: I hope this is the real McJim, good to have you back (clap)(clap) Point well made. Although I have a complain about the pies at Sterling, nearly caused a disaster at Lands End - for more information see the Shedtune blog It was more the "post badger halt" situation....provided quote of the run "I pity the poor soul who goes in thier next ...the flush didnt work" As to Didcot Plough- your buggered sideways each way - I would keep the orginal route in the "book" but mention to entrants that basicaly its a free for all just get to the Plough any which way you can ...?
