  1. I wonder what they would say if I asked about such an ordinary car as my Landcrab NAM616G ........ ex 68 London-Sydney, 70 World Cup Rally, ........ and 69 Monte!!!!!  Pity I could not afford for us to go :-)
  2. Could be let off if they are marked Pos and Neg as on my early Mk1 when I first had it .....! MUT
  3. For paint requirements I just go to Middleton Motor Panels in Gloucester who are my nearest supplier.  They check on their computer as to whether the vehicle code is on their computer - which it usually is - and make a special mix.  They can also mix excellent matches to a sample. For example Woody had been resprayed by the previous owner in a dark British Racing Green and I had an exact match aerosol from many years ago and it was called Black British Racing Green but that did not go very far.  Needing some paint to respray the replacement tailgate after doing some repairs to it, I took a piece of the old tailgate into them and they mixed to that pattern and produced an exact match to the old paint - not easy with very dark colours. Mind you living up to the MUT status I was sorting out part of one of my garages ....... and found a couple of litres of the original paint so had not needed to make the special double trip from the Forest of Dean to Gloucester to get it mixed! Another example of what they can go is that NAM my Marathon Landcrab had been painted in 1970 for the World Cup with a blue stripe along the side and the bonnet - then for the British Rally Championship in 1971 this was over painted with red.  As I am putting NAM back to World Cup Spec I spent many months trying to find what shade of blue it was and eventually found I could rub through the red and the original blue was underneath.  Mind you the shade of blue was rather patchy after this rubbing down but being able to identify the patch that was the correct shade of blue they mixed up a couple of litres and an aerosol rattle can for me to the exact match of the correct darker shade.  Price was no more than if I had bought it off ebay or anywhere else as a ready mixed tin. The final MUT thing was that I went into my local car parts people 1/4 mile down the road for something and in passing asked if they were able to get this sort of thing done ...... and they said they could.  To test this I asked them to order me in a couple of aerosols of BL/BMC Snowberry White and code WT4 which is the white used on the rest of NAM.  They ordered it in actually using Middletons for this, and had it delivered within 4 hours at the same price as going direct to Middleton in Gloucester and saved me the cost and time of driving in to them. 4. As a matter of interest what is the position about taking a non driving passenger who is under 16?   MUT
  5. Hi Keith Thanks for following up on this. Did not receive an e-mail so wonder if there is a problem with my e-mail address.  I have found my Bigfoot address is playing up so now use my other one - tedt.taylor@btinternet.com - thought I had passed the info on to CT. If it is still the old Bigfoot address could it be changed to the btinternet one please? Strangely the problem only affected a few people/contacts so if friends have a problem they should simply use BTinternet I have now worked out how to pay for my entry and get it upgraded though will have to wait a few days for my pension to come through and hope it is not too late! MUT
  6. Tim thanks for highlighting this. I was not aware and even made a comment about my entry being on the Reserve list on the RBRR Banter FB Page a few days ago to reassure someone getting panicky about whether to bother get their car finished.  Saying not to worry as most reserve entries will get a place if they wanted one. Now I am trying to work out how I actually get my entry upgrade from Reserve!!!!!  I don't want to miss out now Woodie seems to be sorted and I just need to get the miles in :-) MUT
  7. I have to agree about the Road Book as a souvenir.  As some may be aware that my Woodie misbehaved and after most of the year trying to sort out an engine problem (or three of four)  I had to withdraw very late in 2018 when a final problem cropped up with just days to go. Gutted to have missed my third RBRR (as being now in my mid seventies not many more chances with my mobility problems) but at least have the road book.  And because the Monmouth control was about 25 minutes from where we live Woodie did decide to behave a bit and we at least got to that control in the middle of the night - and the very very nice men marshaling did give us a signature!!!! I bet Woodie had a right laff looking at all those other cars that had driven to JOG and back down but had only had to drive 15 miles for his one !!!!!!! Now to hope that I can come off the reserve list and get that third RBRR in 2020. MUT
  8. Unfortunately my entry did not go smoothly. Started to try to enter from first thing this morning at about 8.00 - but could not find the entry details until 10.30 so am unfortunately on the reserve list. MUT
  9. Tim, not correct in that all 6 cylinder people are fitting a TR5 cam as it gives better torque. I fitted one into Woodie (an estate) after the Chris Witor spec 308778 went nasty after the valve stem seized in the incorrectly fitted bronze valve guides (not by me I hasten to ad).  I wish I had refitted a 308778 which is a popular choice but did not do so because CW only supplies them as reground which was part of the reason for the failure of the cam (lobes).  If I can get a CW spec cam ground from a blank I would very likely fit that. MUT

  11. We had the same thunderstorms - stopped me doing some work on one of the Triumphs! If you looked across the airfield from the Museum you will see an older housing estate - and you can see the house I was born in!  We used to go thorough our boundary hedge and watch car sprinting taking place on the boundary runway in the 1950s 😄 MUT
  12. Where did you go Ben?  We live in Sling near Coleford and Gordon Townley who is in charge of the Wydean Group (meeting tonight - Tuesday) is just outside Cinderford. We are going to Stratford this Sunday just in case you will be there but no great rush for them at the moment. MUT
  13. I could do with more for the restoration of both my early Mk1 2000 and my ex London-Sydney/Monte/Rally du Maroque/World Cup Landcrab. I live in the Forest of Dean so not too far away and need to come over to Churchdown sometime soon to see some of the family. MUT
