Marinaman
Hello, Please, can anyone tell me if all 1300 sump gaskets are the same? Or adaptable to fit. I was looking at the Payen EG090 gasket set, but is doesn't hold a sump gasket. So, I was wondering if any 1300 sump gasket would fit between the 1300 FWD engine block and the FWD diff-sump. Thank you.
PeteStupps
Hello Marinaman, I would say you can use any Spitfire / Herald sump gasket. Photo below shows a normal Spitfire / Herald sump gasket on the 1300FWD sump. Look at the top right corner - it's not a perfect fit but covers all the way round. Some people will tell you the proper FWD gasket thickness is 0.020" and is critically important and you shouldn't use anything else. I say it's not that critical and have covered many miles using the 'wrong' gasket. It does drop a little oil but that seems to be from the diff / gearbox rather than engine. I'm almost certain the gasket thickness had nothing to do with two broken clutch plates as well.
PeteStupps
For completeness, here's a screenshot I took off Facebook some years ago. And I see there's a bloke selling bottom-end sets on Ebay for £30 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/375236691610?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=Z00pthgUTVq&sssrc=2047675&ssuid=TkCI0YfNRsi&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY Edited May 6 by PeteStupps added ebay link
