  1. Just a thought while on the subject ... Is there a feasible rear disc brake conversion idea around  for Herald/Vitesse?
  2. I haven't actually bought a Herald yet, but I've got this earmarked for when I do ... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3104.....e=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT At this size and price, if necessary, I could even fit two. Johnny.
  3. Just to chip in two cents worth of experience ... I had a '69 Mk2 3.8 Jag which are notorious for boiling over when becalmed in traffic. They were built to fly not stand around posing, but nowadays it does tend to do more of the latter. The overheating problem was cured on this one though. The original 8 blade engine driven fan was left in place, but a ten blade electric pusher fan from an old Peugeot was fitted on the front of the radiator. This was simply activated by a +ve fed switch on the dash, so that it could be switched on or off whenever the driver chose. It was noisy enough to remind you it was still running when switched off and left the car, but feeding it from an Ign+ point could be a better solution.
  4. There's usually a few on e-bay. Don't settle for the first one you find though as the price varies quite a bit. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3515.....e=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1417.....e=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  5. I had the same request from my Mrs. and admit that I found the drivers side one useful too. I used these on both sides of my Coombes Mk2 Jaguar, and they stayed in place on track days too. http://www.europaspares.com/qu.....ight-flange-270.html They also have a similar (cheaper) round peeper version and also a rain gutter version if you look around the site. Herald Door Cards

Halfords stopped  selling it years ago, but it is still available. Not a lot of people know this, but Vinylkote still exists. ... http://www.kolorbond.co.uk/vinylkote-paint-leather-vinyl
  7. Dunno about the Reversing lamp but I'm lovin' those Projector lamps in the sidelight position. I just happen to have a pair of projectors kickin' around spare, so I'm tempted. Just gotta figure out where to re-locate the parking lights and indicators. Haven't actually got a Herald yet though. Still lookin' fer a good 13/60 Estate. Johnny.

    Seats again

I've been driving the Wife's '98 Corsa SXi quite a bit for the last few years ('cos my Range Rover Classic is too damn thirsty). I've found the seats excellent for longish  journeys (400+ miles), but it's reached the stage where it'll cost more than it's worth to push it through it's next MoT, and it is getting a bit worrying to drive. Wobbly steering now as well as other faults. I'm also planning on replacing the RRC with a Herald Estate (Fed up wiv feedin' gas guzzlers) but I haven't got one yet. Hopefully the Corsa will be donated to a local lad who uses one for Rally Cross. He only wants it for spare body panels and SXi body kit, so I will be retaining it's seats and electric  powered steering column. Dunno if the front seats will fit in the Herald, but I'll certainly be giving them a try, and experimenting with the split back rear seat to see if that can be bodged in as well. As to the steering column ... I paid nearly a grand to get that replaced a few years back, and it's a shame to throw it away. So I will be sizing it up to see if it will fit in the Herald. OK, I know it's not a necessary thing in a small car like a Herald, but I've kinda got used to it in the Corsa ... which is even smaller than a Herald. I'll let y'all know how I get on with them, but first I gotta get me the Herald. Before y'all start offering them to me guys ... It must be a 13/60 Estate, and Roadworthy with current Mot. I don't mind if it needs a bit of TLC, but I'm not looking to do a re-build. This will be my last classic as time's not on my side here. My Three score years and ten ran out last year, and I'm nearing the end of a Chemotherapy course with fingers and toes all crossed. Johnny.

    Cracked panels ???

Errr! I think the p&p might outweigh it's value Encom.  I'm in North Wales, UK. Good to see a picture of a complete one though. Johnny

    Cracked panels ???

Hmmm? I think I'll go with the idea of putting a plate behind the cut ... riveting one side and self tappers on the side most useful to remove. Assuming I do buy it of course. It ticks most of my boxes, but it's 200+ miles away and getting away to view it isn't too convenient at the moment. :( After 30 odd years playing with big Citroen, Volvo, Jaguar, and Range Rover, I'm really looking forward to playing with a relatively simple Herald again. I considered a Vitesse, but I just don't need the acceleration, speed, or mpg, and I really do want an estate.  Yes, I know there are a few retro-built Vitesse estates around, but as I said, I don't need the extra performance.  I might not be able to resist putting a Vitesse front end on it though. Always did luv twin headlights. 8) Johnny.
  11. Not so cheap, but have you seen these? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/200898484354?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2648&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT 45amp Alternator that looks just like the original Dynamo. I haven't tried one myself as I haven't actually bought a Herald yet, but I'd be tempted if I get one that's not been modified already. All my current cars are fitted with OEM alternators. Johnny. Looking for a running 13/60 Estate.

    Cracked panels ???

Thanks for the comments guys. I'm surprised no-one has seen this before though. I thought it was quite common. Don't know the year of build yet, but it's a Genuine 13/60 Estate, so it can't be too ancient, as Heralds go that is. I presume that these panels are just dirt shields and non structural. Are they easily removable so I can weld them back together, or maybe replace them with good ones ?  Perhaps if it is useful for them to be this way for maintenance, just stitching them back together using a riveted back plate and self tappers might be a good solution? Feeding 'Herald Engine bay' into Google images, I didn't see any other examples of these cuts, but I did note that the panels are missing on quite a few heralds. Mostly on show standard cars with twin carb. or Turbo set ups. Possibly good for a "Hmm, I don't like that, but I can fix it." statement, with a price reduction, maybe? There's a few bits on it like that, but it's got an MoT and he's not asking a high price. Johnny

    Cracked panels ???

Are these cracks damaged panels, or were they made this way? It's 30+ years since I last had a Herald 12/50, but I'm pretty sure that had these cracks too. These pics are of a 13/60 I'm considering buying. Looks simple enough to repair, but just checking if it is necessary. Johnny.
