Now then Baldrick what’s your cunning plan 🤣

  2. They all need more work than you think once you get them home,  I’ve had mine since 2020 and still needs work, just taking the engine out for a rebuild as  we think the big end bearing has spun 🙄  your car looked not too bad but the sunroofs are nearly ajways in need of repair,  I managed to get one on eBay but I did end up paying as much as it would  have cost to get mine re-covered. It’s a matter of getting your car how you want it and not how anyone else thinks it  should  be,  I’ve lost my patience on more than one occasion but I’ve still got Mabel lol ..  they’re old cars so we must try to preserve them .  I hope you have hours of fun and can withstand the odd  times when you might  feel a little frustrated . Keep going Steve 👍

  3. Thanks Amy, I’ve got a few new bits  already inlet & exhaust  valves, springs and guides, new pressure relief valve,  thrust washers (std) hopefully they’ll be ok to use  theres no end float, top and bottom gasket sets, timing chain & tensioner kit, timing cover seal , new core plugs ( she has the old welch plugs bash flat type ! lol) , new oil pump,   l I will leave the pistons  and shells to the machine shop, don’t know how much they’ll have to take off . Great fun taking it apart though

  4. I’ve decided to rebuild this engine, I’ve got refurbed HS2 carbs on an original exhaust manifold and D type overdrive gearbox to fit so it makes sense to keep her own engine.  The 1500 engine is always a spare for Darren’s dolomite

  5. The engine needs a rebuild anyway , has done since I bought the car 3 years ago  this was what we discovered, not sure what the metallic deposits are on top of the pistons on 3 & 4

  6. We suspect big end bearing , the engine was tired when I bought her during lockdown and it finally gave up a few weeks ago so out it comes for a rebuild

  7. Hi Steve  May I suggest you find a local car trimmer to do this as it’s very specialised and the  sunroof has tensioners along the sides which usually need replacing otherwise the roof will not sit correctly  on its runners or in the car roof frame,   As long as the actual sliding  sunroof frame  is in good condition a trimmer will do this quite easily , not sure of cost but I suspect around £200/£250

Removal is quite easy, undo it at the front, open it 1/3rd  of the way, undo the retaining screws at the back,  open it again but only from one side so it ‘twists’ on the frame then you can just lift it out . Hooe this is of some help  installation is simply  the reverse

  8. Yes that’s correct I’ve had 2 early heralds, Mabel being the most recent but she’s had halogen upgrade with a pilot sidelight so her original side/indicators are now just indicators and have an orange lens  in place of the original white ones ,
