  1. Going for a full top to bottom rebuild, head with hardened stem seals, rebore and crank grind,  no points in messing around might as well go the whole hog 🐷  she is a pig lol

  2. So we suspect Mabel spun a big end a couple of weeks ago,  so tomorrow begins  the engine strip down ready  for reconditioning .  She will be transported to my stable yard on Sunday where there’s a bigger place to work on her and plenty of room to store all the bits we remove

I’ll  keep a picture diary of the process and  keep the progress updated IMG_1623.thumb.jpeg.3676dd008b103ba0819ead975af2fb7f.jpeg

I’ve seen lots of moans and grumbles about this event. Its location means that there will be queues at busy times but we didn’t experience any issues with traffic, parking or the perceived lack of marshals.
Some people just look for things to complain about.

I enjoyed the weekend, we just were unlucky in that our usual route on M42 was closed at junction 6 exit for a bridge demolition  so we had to go further down the m6 onto the A46 and there was an accident  with 2 Lorries and a car just before the Stoneleigh turn off causing a 10 mile tailback on the Saturday, just purely bad luck

    one more chance....

I once had an GT6 that did not like me, 2diffs, 3 gearboxes and finally broke down in France with a seized diff at the top of a French mountain. Sold it as soon as it got it home.. we just did not get on!

    🙁

  5. Had a good weekend though as the M42 was closed and a major accident on the A46 which was the alternative route- it took 3 hours for us to arrive on the Saturday in Marmite,it should  have been just 50 mins 🙄

there aren’t usually many if any cars for sale at Stoneleigh  it’s basically an indoor auto jumble.  The NEC in March and November has cars for sale but can be quite pricey there, keep looking Gary 😊

  6. Thanks Bruce

will be stripping the engine down in a couple of weeks time , getting Mike Papworth to overhaul the diff as well, and fitting new front trunnions.
hopefully that’s all the drivetrain sorted 🙄

Sorry to read you've had to call it a day with Mabel. They are bottomless spending pits, that's one of the characteristics of this hobby! Hopefully Mabel has found someone with some spare cash to look after her and you can get lots of "smiles per miles" with Darren in other Triumphs

I can afford to have Mabel’s engine reconditioned, I’m just not prepared to spend any more  money on her,

I’ve spent more than I ever wanted to already, sorry to see her go but sometimes you have to call it a day

  11. I’m in talks with Darren about it,  but I do know the car and I do know that there’ll be yet another issue, probably the diff , if I change the engine and gearbox, there’s only the diff left to blow  lol
