  1. Thanks for the replys I think I'll put it on hold for the moment unless a bigger compresser comes up at a reasonable price.  Mike
  2. Hi  Been thinking about getting a sand blast cabinet and have seen them on the Internet for £79.99. This is a small bench top one so I won't be able to get much in it but does any one on here have one or know what size compressor they need to run it. I have a 3hp 50ltr compressor 14cfm. The cabinet says it needs 5cfm at 40 to 80 psi but I have been told my compressor is to small. Any one have any experience with these small cabinets and what size compressor do you have to run it.  Mike.

    Head gasket

Should you use sealent on your head gasket.  Even if payen?
  4. Hi What size drills would I use for 7/16 and 1/2 inch taps and are they the standard size hole that is in the filler of the diff / gearbox as i can get those plugs from rimmer bros. Thanks Mike.
  5. Hi Graham Thanks for the reply. I have gone the easy route and purchased a recon unit from td fittchet with new crown wheel and pinion. Seemed a resonable price considering what other suppliers where asking. It dosnt come with a drain plug in the bottom so was wondering how difficult it is to fit one and what size drill and tap I would need ?. Could any one advise on this or is it a specialist job for a machine shop. I am in Poole dorset if anyone could recommend a place near me. Thanks Mike.
  6. Hi all Where would be the best place to get new parts (crown wheel & pinion) to rebuild 327 diff. I have seen them in rimmers for £305.00 but unsure of the quality. Thanks Mike.
  7. What time do you think the teams will start arriving at pimperne village hall. As we would like to go and show support Mike
  8. Thanks for the reply I was thinking of keeping the same door glass and trying to fabricate some metal curves to match the glass and weld them into the roof so it was just a quick swap with hood catches. I know it will be a lot more work than a honeybourne hardtop but will be a challenge and a bit different. has anyone done this before with a thread that I could get some ideas from. Mike
  9. Hi all I have a spare saloon roof from a herald and was wondering if anyone has ever made a hardtop for a herald or vitesse convertible. Would the roof be to long or to short to fit. Are there any differences between the saloon and convertibles apart from the door glass and the groove in the rear deck that the roof sits in on the saloon. Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Mike.
  10. Thanks for the reply's and sorry i haven't got back straight away. GT6M Had a look for the thread in tech chat but couldn't find it do you have pics of what you did. Nick Where did you get your cherry bomb from or can you recommend a center box that will fit. also do you have any pics of how you opened up and closed the rear box to repack it. Did you have to buy any more packing and where did you get it from. All What is the difference between the Mk1 and Mk2 exhaust ?. As the Mk1 has a center box. Will the center box fit the Mk2 pipe or will the hole Mk1 exhaust fit a Mk2 vitesse. Thanks again Mike

    Loud exhaust

Hi My exhaust on my Vitesse is very loud and every one looks round when I put my foot down and bring the revs up. It is a canley classic stainless system but I have changed the back box for a mild steel one but it is still very loud. Is there a second box that can be fitted into the system has any one done it and which parts have you used. Is it a straight fit. Any ideas would be gratefully received. Thanks Mike.
  12. Hi Partsaver I am in Poole Dorset and I have managed to find a new old stock servo and fitted it. Thanks for the reply Mike.
  13. Thanks but have sorted it now. Mike.
  14. Thanks for the reply's BAC I will check the breathers on the diff and gearbox thanks for that. I have brought it anyway so will give it a go in the diff. It also supposed to help with wining so that may help. It is also suppose to soften the rubber oil seals rather than plug the hole. As for the gearbox I spoke to overdrive spares who said it wouldn't be a good idea and to change the oil seal. there only £3.40 and easy to do.   Will let you know in a few weeks if it helps with the diff wine and oil leak. Thanks Mike.
  15. Hi all I have a very small weep from the gearbox oil seals on my overdrive gear box in my vitesse MK 2. I also have a small oil leak on the diff oil seals as well and will be putting some wynns gear oil treatment with stop leak in the diff. Both the diff and gearbox were reconditioned about 8 years ago. Now I no I cant put the wynns gearbox treatment in the overdrive gearbox as it will damage the overdrive. But has anybody used just the normal engine stop leak in an overdrive gearbox or has anybody used automatic gearbox stop leak without any problems. Would any of these additives damage the overdrive ?. Thanks in advance Mike.
  16. Anyone got a brake servo for a 1977 dolomite sprint in good working order for sale Thanks Mike.
  17. Hi all I am fitting out the engine bay of my dolomite sprint which I took apart in 2005 I have stripped everything out and sprayed it but cant remember where things go. Can some one post some pics of the engine bay to show the route of the wiring loom and where things go. Also how is the loom fixed to the car in the engine bay. Thanks Mike.
  18. Hi have seen some clutch kits on eBay some are Borg beck and lay-cock. Are these better than the new old stock and last longer. What is the average time a clutch will last ? new reproduction against new old stock. Thanks again Mike.
  19. Hi Pete thanks for the reply I think it is a standard diaphragm clutch what is the difference. ? It has the normal diaphragm clutch cover and is from a Mk2 Vitesse with a 2.5 engine. when I measured it in the vice just lightly nipped up it was 6.38mm so may be a little to worn ?. Is there a heavy duty clutch for the 2.5 engines or are they all the same ?. Thanks Mike.
  20. Hi all Went out in my Vitesse today and noticed the clutch is slipping so will have t replace it. I have found an old clutch plate in the garage which measures 7.25 to 7.38mm thickness overall but looks very thin to me. The rivets to friction lining is 1.08 to 1.14mm. Does anyone know the correct thickness of a new clutch plate and how much friction material there is from the face of the lining to the rivets. Thanks Mike.

    Tr6 carbs

Hi all and thanks for all your reply's. I will leave the manifold as is and not machine (as oil on the carpet says). Fitting this manifold would there be any difference to a Vitesse Mk2 Manifold or would I just be wasting my time and money. Thanks Mike.

    Tr6 carbs

Here is the one with the no V3389 on it

    Tr6 carbs

Thanks for the photos. It turns out I have one 2500 manifold with blocked water pipe (what is the best way to get this unblocked). And another one with the numbers v3389 which the water pipe is OK. Both of the sweeping ports look the same length so is this one TR6 or 2000. Also would I have to get the manifold machined to have the carbs upright or would I be wasting my money. And do you get any more power over a Mk2 Vitesse manifold and if so higher or lower rev power. Thanks Mike.
