  1. Lets see what the diagnosis reveals Mike, i suspect it is a wiring issue, maybe a short circuit at the alternator, the small fire was in the alternator and revealed itself via plastic cowl as per the pic
  2. A few photos attached to illustrate the failure due to alternator fire, hopefully the car will be on its way back from Germany in the next week or so,     cheers,        Laurence
  3. Fine thanks Mike, luck was on my side,-managed to exit the autobahn and into a police station car park. My  fire extinguisher didnt work but the attentive police used one they had to  hand. Fire was localised to alternator and engine bay wiring, the car should live again,     cheers,       Laurence
  4. Team 27 booked out on the 10 am ferry return 12 am on the monday,    cheers,      Laurence
  5. Oil prices have a habit of being v fickle.., would be a real bonus if they remained at current levels or even lower,    cheers,        Laurence
  6. Stickers on  :),   see you all friday,        cheers,           Laurence, car 51
  7. 3 isn't a crowd ;),   at last the webers have been plumbed in,put on the rolling road and seem to be well set up..,time will show if more fettling is required. Good test tomorrow with a 150 mile run to the RetroRides fire up at Shelsey Walsh, should be fun,    cheers,       Laurence
  8. Roy,     Good stuff, look forward to catching up,        cheers,            Laurence, ps shame Casper couldn't come over!

  10. thats a lot of stuff for the money, just wish i had more storage :-/. Hope the car gets another chance,     cheers,         L
  11. Not easy to find at the moment. I don't have the links but might be worth trying fitchets and earlpart,      good luck,         cheers,            Laurence
  12. Entry 51,- making progress,slowly..., the shakedown revealed  a lot of rubbish in the tank leading to  filter blockages and poor fuel delivery . Replacement tank has been sourced and will be fitted this week, there will be further issues but i am ever the optimist. The car will be on the CT stand at the classic car show Bristol/Bath showground on 16 June. Some recent photos are attached,     cheers,         Laurence
  13. that sounds on the money Colin,    manythanks,      cheers,        Laurence
  14. like others who have the original keys for their Mk1 mine are worn, not a major problem when locking the door , however the ignition barrel is not well located in its housing,so when the key is inserted it tends to partly turn the housing thing rather than the ignition barrel.  Question is , can the housing/ barrel be tightened up in some way?,     cheers,         Laurence

    winter tyres

I'm sure you are right David ;), will continue to look. I hadn't considered the  MSA regs Colin, but thanks for that info. I already have a set of all season vredestein classics, these have the 70 profile which seem to look correct, to my eye, in Mk1 wheel arches,    cheers,        Laurence

    winter tyres

Hi Andy,     Would 165/80/15,using TR6 wheels, work on a big saloon?. I did find some chunky vredesteins in this size,        cheers,            Laurence
  17. All,    First, Happy and healthy New Year :).   Having refurbed a set of TR6 wheels i want to put a set of winter tyres on them. I'm not getting very far.., has anyone else fitted a set in 185/70/15 size, there are plenty of 185/65/15 but nothing, that i can find, with a 70% profile,    thanks in advance,        cheers,            Laurence
  18. entry 51, car still in build process, but getting there,    cheers,         Laurence
  19. Car 67, the stand in TR5 ,ready to go, the stickers were tricky to place on the curvy nose of the 5 but look ok,    see you all in Calais,       cheers,            Laurence
  20. and that ,for me Jim , is the interest in the mk1 . Transforming a classic 'slippers and pipe' saloon into something that will give any contemporary bmw et al a good run for its money gives me a real buzz.My own project will hopefully provide a few smiles, and that will be set up with triple webers,    cheers,      Laurence. ps i also love a stock Mk1 , always great to see a factory original
  21. have you considered going the triple weber route?,    cheers,       Laurence
  22. Both Martin and i(entry 63) felt that all Controls were excellent, efficient, friendly and well organised, without exception. Having partaken in a number of rallies over the years i can confirm that the RBRR Controls were of the highest standards, it was a real pleasure to be greeted at the end of a tough sector by a friendly face who knew what they were doing. I particularly liked places like sixpenny ,a touch quirky, but with lovely friendly wi members running the facilties in the hall.    Welldone to all at CT that got everything organised,     cheers,       Laurence
  23. economy,-what economy?,i didnt dare add up the carrier bag of petrol receipts, but it was rather a lot..   Triple 45 webers never come cheap, especially with my right foot,      cheers,        Laurence, entry 63
  24. As an RBRR virgin the whole thing was a high for me.    But,like Tim, the best driving moment was the blast from Tebay to Gledrid,-the section was driven at pace but always imho   with consideration and sense toward other road users and fellow RBRRs. I never realised Heralds were so quick until i came accross Dales!,-must be a pretty special engine under the hood    One of the big +s for me is that CT members are real enthusiasts for the Triumph marque and are prepared to drive them hard and at the risk of getting them dirty. The reality is that within other clubs the emphasis is more on polishing than out and out driving,-i know what i enjoy most..,   cheers,     Laurence,-entry 63
