    Chrome

Thanks Rob Ill give him a call. Re Stainless... I will check how they compare price wise when I get Chroming price. The other thing that puts me off stainless is my front bumper is cut so the grill shows (like Mk2) which I rather like so wouldn't want to cut a new (expensive) stainless one.

Thanks for the replies and advice
  6. Hi All Quick piece of advice please... Im about to oil the front trunions on my spitfire and have noticed that they have been previously greased. My question is should I remove the grease or just oil over it. Also would Hypoil 80/90 be ok Thanks   Andrew

    GT6/Spitfire mk3 engine

I like the idea of this conversion because I love my mk3 Spit however I also love the sound (and performance) of the GT6............... does anyone have a converted Spit local to me (Cambs/Suffolk/Norfolk) who would let me have a look and possibly a ride (drive!)?
  9. How easy is it to exchange the engine from my Spitfire Mk3 for a GT6 one. Is this something others have done. Which GT6 engine should I look for?...... Is a Vitesse engine the same as GT6? Look forward to your replies.
  10. Just use the car for fun Sheepy and the noise is a whine rather than a rumbling. Isnt rebuilding the diff a rather difficult task for a relatively non mechanical person? Or would it be economical to get it rebuilt by a local garage?.. Do you think rebuilding would cost less than getting a refurbed exchange unit from the likes of Rimmers?
  11. Cleaned all the crud and oil from the diff and thought that the leak was from the prop shaft end. I somehow managed to get my fingers on the split pin in the breather hole and found it was blocked solid with crap. managed to clean it and release the split pin. Topped up the diff with oil and took the car for a good run. That was Saturday morning and since then it hasn't lost ONE DROP if oil so the blocked breather was causing oil to be forced past the prop seal. The breather is a bugger to get to so I can see why its probably never been cleaned.
  12. Great replies, thank you. Really given me food for thought. I use the car for cruising around the country lanes at a sedate pace and some A road driving when I have to. Im leaning towards just having the seals replaced at the moment because its leaking quite badly and I don't want to rush to spend my money!! My heart says go the whole hog and replace the gearbox which is a bit noisy along with fit overdrive and refurbed 4.11 diff but my head is saying are you throwing too much money at this car which is probably only worth £3-4000..... 🤔
  13. Hi all, I would like your thoughts please. I have a mk3 spitfire with a noisy dif. When the car was serviced recently it was suggested that if I decide to replace the dif with a rebuilt one then it would be a good upgrade to change it for a later set up, ie mk4. It was said that with the dif and rear axle upgrade this would improve handling. I am also considering exchanging the gearbox for a full syncro'd one at some stage when funds allow and adding overdrive which I don't have at the moment.  However I think my decision what to do regarding the dif will need to be brought forward because it has started to leak more and its time to replace the seals. My options are to get the seals replaced on my existing dif and carry on with a fairly noisy dif or go for a replacement. If I go for a replacement ive got to decide if I stick with the original Mk3 set up or upgrade to later set up. If I stick to the existing set up and replace the dif then Ive got an identical exchange unit. If I go with the upgrade then I will have to pay the non exchange supplement. The question is what to do??

    Rear Bumpers

Turning my attention to the rear bumpers. Options are to get them re-chromed or replace.  Where would you recommend for GOOD QUALITY new bumpers with good quality Chrome. Thanks
  15. Im thinking of removing the front bumper on my mk3 spitfire. It needs re-chroming or replacing with a new one which I cant afford. I like the idea of fitting Jigsaw racing over riders in its place. Has anyone done this by chance??

New foams for the seats, seat covers, door cards and carpets are all on my wish list :) Very pleased with carpet and easy fit.  New foam and covers have transformed the car and was well worth the cost. Also sound proofed and insulated the floorpan. This has made driving more pleasurable
  17. Just thought I would show you a couple of pics of my new seat covers. They are leather from Park Lane classics. Had good fun fitting them on new foam also from Park Lane...... Well pleased with the result. New carpets and door cards from Newton Commercial by the way!

  19. Ive just finished fitting a Newton Commercial moulded set and am very pleased with the result. Good fitting instructions too.

    Which carpet

Ive gone for Park Lane foam and leather seat covers. Quality very good but haven't fitted them yet. Ive also yet to fit the carpet set which is from Newton Commercial. This is a moulded set. Agree that the quality of the carpet is not great and is thinner than the set which my car came with. Don't think this will be a major issue though because it wont be getting masses of wear like a daily hack would.

    Original Seatbelts?

Same question from me. Want a set to replace my very tatty set already fitted  in my Spit Mk3. Can only seem to find modern inertia reel ones

    Bumpers

michael_charlton wrote:For the MK 3 you can buy a race version of the over rider that can bolt on to the quite sharp mounting bracket Or you can strap some substantial foam rubber over the brackets As Jason said there must  be no sharp edges on any part of the car/body that could cause injury Thank you for your reply. Can you tell me where the race versions of the over riders are available from?

    Bumpers

Im removing the bumpers from my Mk3 spitfire for re chroming. Do you know if its legal to drive it without bumpers? Is there a cover available to cover the front bumper brackets? Thanks
