  1. She shouldn't do it at the pumps as people might slip on it. Other than that can't see anything wrong (cool)

Thank you for the confirmation that man, mystery solved. Now I can get on with restoring it, an unusual upgrade to say the least. I imagine new ones are as rare as chicken teeth (verymad)

Further research has come up with: A couple of photos of the exact same badge, front & back, cited as possibly from 1950's Atlas van. More likely though also found photos of 1300 TC fronts with the same looking badge & on Ebay what looks to be the same badge however without any of the white/blue paint left. I will restore the blue painted zone and refit. Not much choice really as there would be 3 holes in the bonnet (angry) visible otherwise.

Yes I have seen a version with a scroll, looked as if it was on a dolomite. I'll research the Vanguard.

Hi everyone, a previous owner fitted the badge in the image below (sorry about the size) and I would like to try and identify where it comes from. Clearly not an original fitting to a 13/60 and my searches so far have drawn a blank with other models. I have left the letter 'U' so as to give the scale of the badge. Thanks for any info you have.

  7. Wouldn't it be easier to buy an inflatable swimming pool, fill it with oil and dunk the whole car (wink) You are right Pete there is a long list of items that could do with a drop of oil that get forgotten/missed.

  9. Yea oiling can become addictive.  Oiled the trunnions, dash pot, distributor and greased the rear wheel bearings. On to the diff next to top up, no drain plug though b#@@£&. (mad)

  11. All sorted. Both needed a squirt of WD40 to ease them, they had been greased at some point or oil that was now sticking rather than sliding. Damn I didn't have to dismantle loads of biros to find suitable springs! (ondrugs)

  13. Thanks for additional info Pete. I only noticed the wedge on the passenger side today when adjusting the plate,. It didn't seem to  spring back easily so a good clean and oil to start with . If that doesn't do the trick I'll be raiding my stock of biros. I suppose I should look at the driver's side as well 😉

    sport exhaust

My 13/60  convirtible has the standard mild steel system which my neibough says makes it stand out from other cars in the village. I think he likes the sound. When driving, with hood down, I don't find it loud. With the hood up it's other sounds that bother me 😉
  20. The link to the BBC worked but not the second, I'll try it again later. Very interesting and shows what I have always believed, you can't believe any of the claims and the whole subject is extremely difficult. "Lies, damned lies & statistics" comes to mind.
  21. In that case I would have to include women... 😀

    Price of tyres

I'm an old git so don't understand this bit, can you expand please. I drive a modern auto and they are much better than the old type. As for tyre pressure detectors fitted to cars, mine has a basic system that simply compares rotation speeds if one wheel is turning or has turned faster than the others it lights up - It lets you figure out which wheel is at fault. Some time ago the warning came on, I dutyfully stopped and gave a look, no signs of a problem. As I was almost home continued and when the tyres were  cold checked all the pressures, spot on. Went out again and same thing so went to my garage...The reason? Just had 2 new tyres fitted and due to some lub on tyre and rim the tyre had slipped under acceleration. This also happened the last time new tyres were fitted so ignored it, it only does it once or twice. Must tell tyre fitter to use less

Part worn tyres? I'm as likely go buy as part worn brake pads. No
