  1. Didn't use the car for 2 months, took the car for a drive, soon got to a junction, went to pull away and couldn't find any gears. Looked under the car and fluid was going everywhere. Stuck it in gear, started it, drove home. Bought new slave, replaced slave, bled clutch. All good. Went for a thrash, still all good. Went to use the car again, got to the end of the driveway and same thing happened again! The slave piston appears to be going too far. What could be the cause? The rod pushed only about 1cm into the slave when I installed it. Please give me a hand. The sun is out (in New Zealand) and the roof is down. Me wanna driiiiiive!!!!

I had a bad experience with that stuff in the Alps back in 2005 boiling up, think about using conventional fluid. Fantastic car and I hope that you have a great time driving her. Yes, I too boiled a lot of silicon fluid in the Alps in my Spit
  3. When you get home, open the speedo and use some hooked tweezers ;) Or just unplug the cable....

    Engine oil

Which sort should I be using in my Triumph V8 engined Stag? I was using castrol 20w50 but someone suggested that that was unnecessary in New Zealand and that 10w40 Synthetic would be better? J

Had spotlights on originally behind grill and fog light on rear bumper. Not sure if its worth putting them back in. Dont plan to be doing much night driving anyway, but you never know. I need to get a passenger glove box and support rail. If any of you fella's have one, PM me. Thanks The ignition barrel was lit from a bulb holder in the bezel (718813 - usually missing!) around the ignition switch so that one could find the aformentioned switch on dark nights.
  7. Just wanted to thank everyone for a great day - I thoroughly enjoyed myself! I also took millions of photos so if anyone wants sone (I have uploaded a few), pop your reg up and I'll take a look for you.
  8. Over the run, I used 2/3l of oil. This excludes replacing the 4l of oil lost on the A9 when the pressure guage pipe snapped! Until I lost the guage, 65psi at 2000rpm on idle - like the book says. I use Castrol Classic 20w50 (23 quid for 4.55l) and think it is great. Far better than the motoway stuff that the motor factors used to sell me for a quid a litre. When new, the Castrol is yellow and smells like the Silverstone pit lane at the 1958 British Grand Prix. The motorway stuff is brown and smells of used engine oil. I suspect it is recycled. Oil pressure had definitely improved with the Castrol and the engine seems a bit smoother also.
  9. Also, Martigny to Chamonix is superb. No photos as when I drove it, 10cm of rain fell in 4 hours (according to BBC - I am sure it was more!). It was the hardest drive of my life - oversteer, understeer, blind overtaking, aquaplaning - you get the picture.
  10. I am back but didn't make Stevio either. What I did find was the St Bernardino pass - not the one that Top Gear drove - but the original road that was replaced by the one top gear drove. It was responsible for the complete loss of my brakes though! Also, whoever it was that recommended it (I owe you loads of drinks!), the Cormet de Rosilend. Had a wee bit of brake fade on the way down from that one and pulled in next to a brand new 911 with the same problem!
  11. Is the snow likely to stay? I'm in the neighbourhood (Alps and Lakes) from 12th to the 18th if anyone else is about.
  12. I'm in those parts from the 11th to the 18th. Might bump into one another! (although not literally hopefully!). What are the best Alpine passes and the like worth doing?
