  1. Are your rear struts metallic gold and do they have "AUS" stamped into them? Mine were too. I've got a pic of them but it seems I haven't uploaded them to photobucket
  2. Are you anywhere near London? I have a book written by the guys who run this website that you can borrow: http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/index.php It's really good and the blokes are top notch too (I've contacted them about the bits I need for the RV8.) If you get a megasquirt, you won't need EDIS. the MS can control ignition drivers Some of the bits you will might want to look at http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirtii-programmable-efi-system-pcb30-kit-black-case-p-119.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/ign6-sixtower-coil-pack-p-430.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/hall-effect-crankshaft-position-sensor-p-479.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/34-361-trigger-wheel-p-181.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/gm-open-element-iat-sensor-with-connector-p-116.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/gm-closed-element-clt-iat-sensor-with-pigtail-p-58.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirt-relay-board-assembled-unit-p-32.html http://www.diyautotune.com/catalog/megasquirt-relay-cable-p-47.html You might be able to get a lot of bits from the scrapper. You may or may not want an o2 sensor also
  3. Cool, thanks. Should there be two gaskets for each spacer then?

Cool thanks. I'm just looking to do what I can for free for a bit of fun while the engine is out. They certainly are a heavy clutch! I don't mind that though.

Brilliant. When I'm back I'll have to measure everything up and work out how much to take off. ta Cam
  6. Cool, thanks. I was wondering about that. Any idea what the ceramic spacer things are? I don't remember seeing those on my car.

Cool, I believe my head is an 8.5:1 MM unit. I'm quite happy to only run it on 97 RON. Would you still stick to 9:1 on the good stuff or go a bit higher?
  8. Hey Guys I managed to get hold of a NOS head gasket set. I was told different things about which one to get so I chose the o-ringed gasket set and also got a non-recessed NOS gasket too. Will pass on whichever I don't use at cost later. Anyhow, my question is; going from the below picture, is anything missing? To me, it looks like there is a surplus gasket (the one on the end). Also, what are the ceramic spacer things?# It's Unipart GEG.1204 Ta Cam

I would but this is really just a stop-gap until I'm home for good and can build the V8. Not looking to spend any money on it other than new gaskets. It's also a good chance to get some practice in with the grinder before moving onto heads I don't want to have to throw away.

Hi Guys I'm heading home for a Month in late March. Planning to drop out the 6 I put in and put back the motor it came with on SU carbs. Also thinking about whipping the head off and doing some minor port shaping/valve de-shrouding, maybe a head skim, valve back cuts and radiused corner (on exh) etc (My brother is an engineer so should be no problem doing the skimming and valve work.) My question is. If I'm running the stock 18-58-58-18 cam, how much should I look at taking off the head if I run on 98 ron? Also, with those timings, I'm getting 256 degrees of duration on a 110 LSA and 36 degrees of overlap? Is that correct? Isn't that quite a hot cam for a motor like this (that puts out well under 50HP per litre)?
  11. ^But much more accurate. Could always have more than one bung and move sensor around as required when tuning.
  12. Good stuff! I'm hoping to have a 2 poster installed by the time I get back for my trip home. Got 2 cars to sort out (plus people to see) in a month.
  13. It's the balance between the two. If you have a stiffer front ARB without one to match in the rear, as the rear of the car leans the thicker front bar will end up lifting the inside front wheel. The same reason that a lot of hot hatches cock a rear wheel. At least that's how it was explained to me
  14. Cool, thanks. I'll have a look when I'm back home. I'm not sure where the seatbelts are from. They came with a whole load of Trump parts so could be Trump or from something else.
  15. Hi Guys Has anyone fitted modern retracting 3 point belts into their cars? I have some in the shed at home that I'd like to fit but I recall having a look and thinking an extra mounting point would be required? Thanks
  16. Cool, how does it work? PFL cars ride an inch lower than FL cars? Would the later shackles not be designed to give more static -camber to offset the +camber induced by the higher ride?
  17. It's a pre-facelift car. I've heard you can weld up the hole in the shackle and then re-drill it to reduce camber?
  18. It is lowered and I do currently have excessive camber but I'm looking to sort that (hopefully) by modifying swing arm shackles. Well I can always try it with the current wheels and see how it goes, then decide from there. Thanks guys. Also, still keen to see pictures of modified arches if anyone has any.
  19. A combination of all three Peter. I have 6" wide wheels on there at the moment with 185's but I think they will be a bit skinny for the V8. I was thinking 7.5" or 8" wide rears with maybe 225 wide tyres to reduce sidewall flex. My old MR2 had 225 rears from factory and that only had 188BHP to contend with (and it handled very well). I'm looking at a Long nose Nissan R200 or similar LSD. Will remove the quill shaft and should handle the power well.
  20. Awesome, thanks guys. I'm looking at running 340BHP + when the V8 is in there so want to get the widest rears possible. I would like to keep 15" if possible as in NZ 16" wheels aren't that common, so tyre choice is limited and expensive. There's a lot more available in 15" and 17" but 17" would be a bit big I think. Does anyone have pics of pulled arches?
  21. Hey Guys Does anyone know what the widest wheels you can fit in the back of a saloon are and what offset they should be? Is there anything you can trim back to fit wider wheels than would normally be possible?

A really nice example at the national Citroen rally in NZ when I was there. Ridgetone Triumph had a really nice set of wheels on his race car

I still love nothing more than a liesurely Sunday drive in a well sorted 2500...! Had to sell my 16v when came to the UK :'( Loved that car. Seriously keen on a DS.
  24. Ceramic coatings may also be more expensive as they act as a thermal barrier, similar to using exhaust wrap.
