  1. eighteen front twenty six back or when fully laden twenty two front and twenty eight back its all in the workshop manuel
  2. Thanks for the advice.  Will order the bits and attempt the Ferny method.
  3. I need to replace the UJ joints on the 13/60 1970 Herald Convertible.  Does any one know the part number anf best place to get these?  Do the cheaper Freelander TV10000 ones fit? I will also need the use of a hub puller.  Will pay postage for the loan of one or if there is one in Cornwall or Devon I could collect and return it. Cheers
  4. Yes everything fitted exactly.  On both the estate and the convertible.  Kit comes with fitting drawing.  No alterarations needed.  Quick delivery too.  Twelve monthslater there is no sign of corrosion or leakage, sailed through MOTs.  Most importantly the brakes arte 100%.  Why pay more?
  5. Can recommend these off ebay.  Bought a set for both my Heralds and been impressed by the price (£22.50) and quality http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Triumph-Spitfire-Herald-GT6-and-Vitesse-Copper-Brake-Pipe-kit-/150955907575?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2325ac59f7 :)

Anyway had a brainwave tried Sainsbury's today which was almost next door and they had a copy. Nice write up Matt,  Picture of me watching the car getting welded by Derek with my nice bright red overalls on :-) Andy you look a bit worried in your red overalls in this one.

  8. Delighted (and amazed!) to know Mark and Andy made it to the finish.  So sorry to hear of Steve's bad luck with the Vitesse and hope it can be mended.  The main thing is that all the entrants made it home unscathed, easier to fix cars than people.
  9. Great to hear they are still making progress.  This really is a test of man and machine.  Mark has to go to work tomorrow for some important meetings - with those red eyes!  We are rooting for them and really hope they make it.  The repair wasn't up to my normal standards but the best we could acheive in the time. Nick, I couldn't have helped with the Herald driveshaft as I don't carry a spare.  Was that the Herald with the American guy in it? Looks from the message board as if traffic jams on the M40 are delaying the leaders and could cause more breakdowns yet. :-/
  10. Team 3, Mark and Andy, arrived at Lands End this morning nursing a cracked chassis.  We left the rest of our marshalling duties to Anthony & Sally-Anne Quick and set off back to Redruth with Mark and Andy following.  At St Erth we stopped to help Team 17 and Team 85, lending our spare wheel to the Vitesse.  Mark and Andy were back on the road again after an hour and a half and we hope the bodge gets them home.  Glad to have been able to assist though we missed our breakfast and I have arc eye!
  11. Loving the photos from Car 77 on the message board.  Wishing we were there.  Scotland in the sunshine, stunning.
  12. Pleased to say that the heavy rain forecast for Cornwall tomorrow morning is not now expected until the afternoon so cars should arrive at Lands End in the dry this time and we wont get soaked signing them in.
  13. I bled it through the banjo.  The main supply feed goes into the cylinder.
  14. Success! Everything adjusted up, cleaned down, job done. Handbrake and footbrake good. Three happy Guys - me, the owner and the Wolf. Enjoyed the challenge and fortunately the weather held off. Thanks for your comments.
  15. Tried that but no joy.  Left it drowning in WD40 so may have luck tomorrow if the weather permits.
  16. Thanks for the link, looks a good site so saved to Favourites for future reference. Got the o/s rear off today and was pleased to see the slave cylinder was not seized so wouldnt need dismantling.  Joy shortlived though as the bleed nipple on this o/s rear is seized solid and won't budge.  This means we can't bleed the brakes properly.  Going back on Monday with stilsons to try to free it.  Fingers crossed.
  17. I have spent the day working on the ns rear brakes and have managed to free up the handbrake linkages. The brakes bear some reslemblance to old Morris Minor set up - think the Arab may have air assisted ones. The slave cylinder was completley solid and I took it apart after a struggle and gave it all a really good clean - the seals were in good nick so I don't need to replace them. Tomorrow I will do the same on the rear os and then bleed the whole thing and hope its all good. My mate will be delighted.
  18. Hi Nick.  Its a single one each side and the handbrake rod feeds into the back of the slave cylinder.
  19. I am fixing the brakes on a 1948 GUY Wolf truck. I have been unable to find any info online and need advice on how to service the rear brake slave cylinders which appear to be seized. Its been left standing for a while.  I have freed off the front brakes OK and the pedal is good but there is no movement of the shoes at the rear which seems to be coupled to the handbrake linkage. Advice greatly appreciated.
  20. We are marshalling at Lands End.  We will have a trolley jack and some basic tools on board in case anyone needs to use them but we will not be carrying spares.
  21. Thanks for the replies folks.  It is the strap type.  From the Canley link it loooks like I need a Vitesse non OD prop.  Has anyone out there got one?
  22. I have fitted the 1500 Midget engine and box to the 13/60 Estate and had shortened the prop to fit.  However, today's short road test revealed that the propshaft is way out of balance and will need to be replaced.  It would probably cost a fortune to get the shortened prop balanced.  Anyone know what propshaft will fit - its 47" long - so I can source a replacement?
  23. The cable fitted a treat, following Simon's suggested route.  I am waiting for a new speedo cable to arrive and then the new set up will be ready to road test.  Expecting to have to change the diff but will see how the present one performs first.  The engine sounds good.  The air filters for the twin carbs have been cleaned and refitted - wondering if I really need to fit the housing for the filters, tempted to leave it off to increase air flow.
  24. Thanks Simon.  I have just nipped out to the garage after seeing your photos and realising I could feed the cable in this way.  Will fit it tomorrow.  It turned over and started this afternoon, though of course a bit noisy without the exhaust pipe connected.
