  1. Thanks to Smithy, he let me have a look at his seats a couple of days ago. I am still undecided, the recovered seats in His Spitfire felt better than mine, didn't feel there was a great deal of difference between those and the MX5.  Maybe I should just recover the Spitfire ones. :-/. No rush - the main task is to get the Spitfire back on the road by the end of June.  I want to be able to drive it during the Spitfires 50th year. Took the TR7 over, it very nearly got a nice polish  ;D but I had to get back home. Nice garage, want one.
  2. Hi Smithy, Just noted from another thread you mentioned Frocester, you must be local to me in Gloucestershire, Wotton-under-Edge. Me thinks is it poss to have a look at the MX5 sedats before they are sold?  just to see what they are like.
  3. smithy wrote:Nice! I've just found this. I wish I had read it last year.  :-/ http://www.spitfires4fun.com/8.html So it may be possible, I think I will think about it for a bit longer, no rush, no1 priority is the get the Spitfire mobile before the end of June.  New wheels will take priority over the seats.
  4. Hi Smithy, Lots of excellent information, your new pics show the differences between the MX5 and original seats well.  You have white centres on your seats I was thinking about red. I am thinking that I will stick with the originals and retrim them this winter. Ultimately what my current project is trying to achieve is to put back as many original items as possible whilst updating and subtle customising as suitable. Thanks everyone, thread far more interesting than I expected.

  7. A problem often associated with the slave cylinder, if it is not pushed far enough forward it may not push the plunger on the clutch release arm enough to release the clutch. If the plunger has not located properly you should have a problem depressing the pedal enough. Worst thing is if the pivot pin for the clutch release arm drops out, common on the single rail gearbox, happened to me on a factory new one, unlikely unless you removed the arm to fit a new clutch release bearing. Another thing to watch but sounds unlikely in this case is if the bleed nipple on the slave cylinder is at the bottom of the cylinder and not the top, any air goes to the top and cannot escape.
  8. Thanks Aaron, but the piping would have to be red to match the new trim. I like to keep original bits if they are repairable or serviceable in storage when possible anyway.

  10. I' m about 5'10", not as slim as I used to be. I intend keeping the original seats as I keep most of the original bits from the car, I may want to fit them back sometime. I rebuilt the seats twice, first just new covers when I bought the car and then a couple of years later I replaced the foams, they are still in good condition, drivers seat a little worn, passenger like new. I dont like the fit of the seat back, seems too narrow and I feel I am sitting on it rather than in it, the head rest covers never fittied very well.  Perhaps the problem is the fit of the covers?, I got them from Prestige Auto trim about 10 years ago. The argument for MX5 seats is not convincing at the moment, I may have a word with Park Lane classics before I make up my mind - I could have coloured piping then   :)
  11. I am not happy with the standard seats in my Spitfire 1500, I find the back is not supportive enough so I have been considering the Mk1 MX5 seats route. Seen on Paul Teglers website how to fit them but I am wondering what people who have fitted them think.  I am a little concerned about the possible increase in height that can result.
